Coral View Villas

Pros

- immaculately kept gardens and villa grounds
- beautiful butterflies dancing feasting on flowers in garden
- decent sized pool that is chlorinated
- proximity to coral reef

Cons

- no safe and rooms locked by padlock and key.

- No TV (nice to have the option for some entertainment for the kids at night)

- miscellaneous deficiencies (Villa 24 shower that won't drain, toilet that stinks of sewer, mini fridge that won't keep cold and half the size of other units + Villa 23 aircon that froze over)

- groups of local men gather by the main street (alongside the fence) gambling and drinking during the day and well into the night on 2 of the 4 days that we stayed at this property.

- it seems that the manager is on site only 1 hour of the day 10-11am

- staff was mostly professional, but the lack of English skills coped with the indifferent management team is a major impediment to making these villa one of the best in Amed. We end up tipping each and everyone of the service staff at the end of the trip and ZERO to management.

- villas doors that won't close allowing flies and lots of mosquitoes into the sleeping quarters

- breakfast that is included is good (coffee/tea, juice, fruits, eggs & toast, fried rice/noodle/pancake) but unfortunately the dinning experience is completely ruined by the 30-50 flies hovering around the table. We indicated to the staff and wondered why, and the head waiter indicated that it was fly season and there was nothing he could do about it (at least please make an effort to kill them while the dinning room is empty... which is 95% of the time?). Again this speaks to the lack of leadership by management to take the extra mile. They ended up using an exterminator in the last day of our stay (better late than never) but do try to avoid meal times when fogging the compound...

- pool towel stealing guests. My wife checked out 3 towels and found out that one went "missing" from the pool side loungers. Management basically told us to take a hike and charged us 200k for the stolen towel. Nice scam going on... so WATCH YOUR TOWELS!

We have travelled all over the world with our family and never have I come across such indifference from hotel management. We are not penny pitching guests by any means (spent the equivalent of our hotel rooms on F&B and massages on the first day alone. Due to the indifference and lack of customer service recovery by Mr Made Audie, our entire family of 7 changed our minds on upgrading to more luxurious rooms (to escape from the bugs), avoided dining at the hotel restaurant, avoided villa massage ladies etc... Conservatively we estimated that the hotel lost over 4 million rupee which we ended up spending elsewhere.

In conclusion

-we would recommend this villa to penny pinching tourists who will tolerate bugs, loud local nightlife and indifferent management in exchange for proximity to coral reef (June-Sept is the best time to visit as the waves and rip current is too strong for safe snorkelling)

- we would warn people who value peace and quiet, well managed properties or have an aversion to unreasonable amounts of flies and mosquitoes to avoid this place like the plague.

- we will not return and will stay at the Bali Bhuana Beach Cottages which is on the same beach as Hidden Paradise (same mgt as Coral View) since it is managed by a nice Balinese man, has great rooms and a good restaurant at half the price of it's neighbours.

Dear guest. firstly thank you for staying at Coral View Villas. We regret that we could not make your time here as enjoyable as possible, however we have and will act on your suggestions where we can.
Unfortunately at the moment it is fly season, and as long as we have fruit trees in season they will keep coming (we set fly traps all over but there are just too many)
In regards to the mosquito problem, i have ordered a new door for the villa you stayed in, which we hope will make the control of the mosquitos in the rooms easier. I have also set the policy that the mosquito fogger be used every three days to further combat the problem.
In regards to the lost towel, the towels when checked out to guests are registered to their rooms. So when a towel goes 'missing' we can only assume that that guest has misplaced it. The hotel is currently under some renovations and when they are complete we will be installing CCTV throughout the grounds. This will hopefully negate the problem of stolen towels as we will be able to check the monitors for culprits.
Each room is allocated a safe, however it is in the front office and not in the guest rooms. We are very sorry if you were not informed of this service.
It is the policy of the owners not to have too much in the rooms to take away from the surroundings i.e. tv, telephone. However Wifi is provided and we have purchased a Projector that both hotel guests will have access to, it is hooked up to the local cable service. Again thank you for the suggestion. We hope that this will be enough to entertain children in the future.
Regarding the locals gambling and drinking in close proximity to the hotel. They are local and dont completely understand the requirements of the modern tourism industry.
To conclude Thank you for your feedback, we will act on your suggestions and are very sorry you did not completely enjoy your stay. We hope that in the future we can change your mind about returning to the hotel.Again thank you for the feedback,
regards, management
Liam Tan and Made Audie

Stayed in the Family Villa right on the ocean front. Fantastic! Great location. The villas were nice and clean and the grounds are beautiful. Nice pool area with a little waterfall and rock edges. The Deluxe villa comes with two double beds downstairs and a queen on the top floor. The beds were ok but nothing spectacular. The outdoor bathroom in the family villa is beautiful and clean with a stone tub, separate showers and private toilet. Really well taken care off. One odd thing about the villas is that the front door, while narrow and short also doesn't seal very well. It is hand made and has a wood slider to "lock" the door from the inside. When you want to go out and lock the door, they give you a padlock which goes around two rings of the front door. Doesn't fell very secure. A/C was good and the bedsheets were clean and odorless. You also get breakfast every morning. With the breakfast you get coffee/tea, fresh juice, eggs (any type), fried noodle or fried rice and fruits. The restaurant is right beside the beach and offers a variety of dishes. Great place to snorkel/dive and chill. Nothing else to do around there and that's a good thing!

Room Tip: f you are staying there, ask for the beachfront villas (#10-13) and you'll get amazing views fro...

This is our third attempt to find a comfortable, affordable, and natural-looking escape in Tulamben - and Coral View Villas is our most successful attempt so far. The bungalows are well kept, the staff is helpful and flexible, and the restaurant up to standards. The best bit by far is the ability to stroll directly to the beach and into the sea, and to be face to face with amazing underwater marine life within a couple of minutes. Only downside: fly infestation in the restaurant area.

Room Tip: Deluxe bungalows are behind the sea-facing two-storey versions, but equally comfortable.

let me start by saying the hotel grounds are well care for the pool is lovely but i wouldnt stay again , the main reason being we were upgraded?? usually a pleasant surprise ! not this time. we had booked into a bungalow garden view we were upgraded to an ocean front room which had 2 levels now the problems started , at first all looked great lovely view of the ocean loungers on the balcony just what we like, the double bed upstairs had huge uneven steps and no bathroom it would be tricky in the middle of the night to get to the ( very nice) outdoor bathroom. we slept in the single beds downstairs which were very uncomfortable.the doors didnt close so it was mossies galore( armed is very dry lots of mossies around.) the water just outside the hotel is clear as a bell if you only want to swim and snorkle amed will be fine but its so so quiet , we left after 1 night for candi dasa which isnt exactly busy but very nice. I would only recommend amed to divers ect and I am afraid because of the room we were given cant recommend the hotel.

Room Tip: get a room that the door closes ok

I didn't stay in the rooms, but every year on special occasions, we eat in the restaurant located right on the beach in Lipah, Amed.
Coral View has an excellent "cuisine" :) There is absolutely nothing I can rate lower than 5 stars when it comes to eating in the restaurant there!
Last time we tried some of the new menu items and pizza. The pizza is the best I ever had in Bali.
Also we ordered a pasta dish (I forgot the name, it was with fish and cream) and the stuffed eggplant (spicy)
Desert was on the house because of my daughters birthday: chocolat mousse, again best I ever tasted.
Thumbs up :)

I would go back here in a heartbeat for the fabulous snorkeling up the beach from the hotel and for the lovely grounds and pool.
Our room was spacious, the bed comfortable. Two small water bottles provided with room. Large water available at a reasonable price. Room most basic of the four hotels we stayed in in Bali but I would come back here next time I visit.
Easy access to black sand beach.

Room Tip: We were in room 33. When we stayed there was a leak from the faucet which meant the floor in the ba...
