Puri Wirata Dive Resort and Spa Amed
Ranked #7 of 19 Hotels in Amed
Reviewed August 20, 2011

We stayed for 6 days and thorughly enjoyed them. Amed is the epitomy of relaxation though there are acivities available. We chose Amed for for a quiet location but also because it's proximity to great snorkeling and diving. We chose Puri Wirata for some comfort while we did this. We were not disappointed in any of these.

Because we booked relatively late during the peak season the only rooms available were 'deluxe' and we also had to switch rooms twice during our stay. However we did know about that beforehand and it gave us a chance to see a few different rooms as not all are the same. #21 is on the lowest level (not full sea view) but is by far the biggest with a couch and chairs. #25 was the middle level and had a smaller balcont and slightly better seaview. #28 was the top room at the outermost corner and easily had the best seaview (by window)though the balcony didnt really face it.

The dive shop was high standard and the young guys (Local and International) and very friendly and helpful. The dive spots were really enjoyable as well. Snorkleling is easily available and even can be quite good straight out from the hotel.

We stayed here for three days and did not want to leave. It was our first time to Amed and we researched and spoke to TA Destination experts before we decided on this resort and we were so happy with our choice. We booked the whole house (321,322,323) for Mum & Dad (downstairs) Daughter and Boyfriend (upstairs double) and son (upstairs singles). The house was the closest to the beach and overlooking the ocean and pool. If I had been able to select the house myself, this would have been the one.

We had a large four poster bed, kitchen and large lounge room downstairs, This opened onto a large deck which had your own lounges, which were perfect for the massages we had by the beach ladies (70,000 Rp for one hour). It was also perfect for having a drink or two and watching the sun go down. Upstairs, with separate entries was the two other rooms, four poster beds in each (even the singles) and a good size bathroom, both rooms opening out onto a large sunny deck with lovely views. All rooms were spacious, very very clean with very nice decor.

The restaurant had nice food, with a fairly extensive menu and the staff were lovely. This restaurant is open all day, so lunch at 3.00pm is not a problem. We also ate at Sails Restaurant (very impressed), Wayan's Warung (super cheap and delicious) and Blue Moon Restaurant (the most wonderful waitress of our whole holidays).

We had no intentions of diving this holiday, but listened to Tom's talk about diving, and after finding out the price was so cheap the boys could not resist. Tom was lovely, professional and the boys (dad included) had a great time. We also snorkled at the dive site, in front of the resort and our favourite was the japanese wreck, which we got to by Jungkung, organised by a beach seller Aryo. Aryo also sold us a freshly caught Bennito, which he cooked over coals on the beach and we had for lunch back at the resort.

I will definately come back to this resort, for longer next time and will probably be brave and hire some mopeds so we can explore more.

Room Tip: Best rooms would be Cottage 6, House 321 or 311

I stayed in this dive resort to do the PADI open water diving course and can fully recommend this place. The dive instructor explained the different excercises very well and took us to some nice dive spots. The resort is situated in a calm area where you can perfectly relax after a dive session. The rooms are clean and big and the staff is very friendly. All in all it was a really nice stay in the resort

As promised, we were given a great large Ocean view corner room with nice King Bed, Fridge, tiled floors etc.., beautiful sunset view Balcony... other rooms or Villas near pools could be real nice too... we were higher overlooking the place in a room that seemed brand new so loved it ...seems to be a 4 STAR place for 2 star prices for now...

Two lovely pools (one deep for dive lessons if needed)... both right on the ocean!! Very nice open restaurant with great options on menu.. we usually ate Indonesian dishes .. all great..

We did about 4 dives and they were great... all beach entry dives very closeby.... and saw the local USS Liberty (went early as advised as gets crowded)... and most very interesting and easy ...We did not snorkel but understood it was good right in front of the resort...just down the stairs!

Very friendly at dive shop and hotel. Dive shop had a full array of good equipment to use if needed and we did some local all day driving tours with driver arranged by resort!!

We had a great stay in this resort!
If you want to go for a dive in Amed, this hotel offers everything you want: dive courses, sightseeing tours, great food, great rooms,…

Although this is not the cheapest hotel you can find, it is totally worth his money!
The staff is so friendly and the location is great, quiet with 2 really nice swimming pools.

The rooms are big and have everything you need. Because they are built to the beach, you don’t hear any noise from the street and you always have a nice view.
For older people or people who have troubles walking, this may not be the best solution. Some rooms are down hill, close to the restaurant but far from the street (and is really a steep walk).

Otherwise I can only recommend you to stay here and try the dive courses (to the shipwreck) or the snorkling just in front of the hotel!

The best thing (for me) was that the restaurant is open during the whole day and they have so many different excellent courses! You can eat whatever you want whenever you want and it all taste good!
Do not forget to taste the Balinese Pancakes! They are amazing!

I went from Ubud to Amed on April. From a busy town to a very remote area where there was nothing to do. At the beginning I was freaking out but really, there is nothing to worry about. I would go back any time.
The hotel is right by the sea, I was in the deluxe room so the view was amazing, I could hear the sound of the sea all day round. I can't hardly imagine something more relaxing than that.
They are a diving resort, so of course that's what they do best. Their instructors are pretty well trained and patient. Their equipment is pretty well maintained and they all make sure you're 100% confortable with what you're doing.
Really good value for money.

Had an excellent time staying at the Puri Wirata. When we arrived it was raining so we were taken straight to our room and at first I thought they had got it wrong - I couldn't believe we could get such a spacious room with such a good view for the money we were paying! We had initially planned on using it as a base for doing some snorkelling, but after trying out diving with the PADI Discover Scuba Diving Course in Jemeluk bay I decided to keep going and get PADI Open Water certified (full range of courses were available for those that are more experienced). The diving absolutely made the trip as the coral reefs and marine life were spectacular. Even managed to see a shark! Food in the restaurant was good, I would especially recommend the Thai dishes on offer from the Thai chef and there is also free wi-fi available. Have no negatives to speak about, be aware however that there are no ATMs anywhere near and if you pay by credit card you'll pay an extra 3% on checking out.
