The memorial is built on a rock, half a kilometer away from Kanyakumari seafront, where Swamy Vivekananda, the great sage and spiritual mentor of modern India, meditated and had the vision of Modern, strong India. The memorial is simple, just like the late Swamy, but very elegantly built. The managing committee tries to enforce cleanliness and discipline of high order, though the visitors do not always respond favorably. On the rock are temple to foot prints of the goddess, The memorial for the Swamy, a meditation hall and a library. Depending on the season and time of the day, waiting time for the ferry to / from the memorial can be long. One can get info about the memorial at the managing office.

I was excited to go out to the Rock Memorial and to see the three seas join....and after standing in line for close to two hours we got on the ferry.

The fact is - it was hot and...rather boring standing in line. Had I understood it would be so very long a wait, I would have paid the (10x?) fee to go in the express line. The people around me in line were friendly enough but...really....

Once on the rock..it was ok, and I suppose you HAVE to go - but I truly saw nothing extraordinary.

WHEN YOU GET OFF THE FERRRY you must immmediately stand in a line to get your return fare!
Also - you must check your shoes (free) - so be prepared to be barefoot on the hot rock.

Thank tressed

For Indians this appears to be a "out of the world experience" but for non-Indians I would suggest that you spend an hour to visit. There's a ferry that takes you across for 20RS pp BUT then you pay another 10RS pp on the other side to actually get into the site. Given that this is a holy site you will need to remove your shoes. The desk counter will hold them for you for free, which is a bonus as sometimes they have a way of walking off.

DO NOT TOUCH any parts of the attraction including the elephant sculptures otherwise you will be warned by a security whistle.

NO PICTURES inside the temple or shrine (this is a given).

The ferry leaves about every 15mins and try to sit close to the exit otherwise be prepared to be pushed out the door when it arrives on the other end.
