“Great rooms but...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 3, 2013

The positives:
The rooms are really nice and spacious (we are in a 1bedroom unit)
The staff is polite and helpful as is the case with Club Mahindra Resorts
The location is peaceful and ideal for a quiet getaway
The food is quite nice

The negatives:
For the last 10km, the road is terrible, rather it is non-existent (so pls avoid travelling at night)
There is not much to do in the resort, we were there for 2 days and got really bored. The resort does organise some treks to the lake Pavna, etc but that didn't interest us too much
The food is really expensive as mentioned by other travellers

Suggestion to management:
We went in Jan, and even in the sunny afternoon the water in the swimming pool was freezing cold, perhaps installing some heating for the water will be great

The location of this resort is superb. It overlooks Lake Pavna and is a 2 hour drive from Pune or Mumbai. So you dont have to take a plane and go through the usual travel hassles to get there. The last 10 kms of road is not very good and I hope that it will imporve in the not so distant future. The landscaping is in the works and already looks promising. The architecture is so good and the clean lines of the buildings and in the rooms make it a pleasure to look at and stay. The food was awesome and the sounds of silence are amazing.

Room Tip: If you are staying in the hotel units try and get a room on the first floor for an uninterrupted vie...

A well run resort on Lake Pavana under the shadow of the Tungi Fort/Peak. Access to the resort is from off the Mumbai Pune Highway in the direction of the Amby Valley Resort. The last few kilometers are a rough ride. The food is of a high standard with plenty of variety and the Chefs are happy to oblige with any special meal requests. It is an excellent place to relax as the noise is contained in just the entertainment area. The ideal rooms to opt for are the Hotel rooms on the upper floors so you get a view of the lake on one side and the mountain on the other. Linen is clean, bathrooms are large and the showers work ! There is a small refrigerator and tea/coffee making facilities in the room.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the upper floor so you get a view of the lake without trees blocking it !

Lovely getaway lake facing resort, close to Mumbai and Pune. Partly opened resort but good food food at the restaurant ripples. Friendly staff and clean rooms. Hotel units facing lake are the best. Would go there again. Approach road needs some work. Otherwise perfect.

Getting to the resort :
The resort is a 3 hours drive from Mumbai (45 mins from Lonavala). Once you reach Lonavala, head towards Sahara amby valley. Around 8 kms before Amby valley, there is a diversion at Cloud Nine resort. Turn left and then IMMEDIATELY take another left turn. The resort is further 8-10 kms from there and the road condition is pretty mediocre.

Location and impressions about the resort:
The resort has a very idyllic setting facing Lake Pavna. The hotel unit rooms are very nicely done with beautiful views of the valley. Studio rooms lack picturesque views. The rooms need better maintenance though as they look a bit worn out. The resort is quite huge and there is an internal "train" to help you move around. Full room service is not yet operational . The buffet spread is quite decent and priced at around Rs.450 to Rs.550 for lunch and dinner. Infinity swimming pool is quite nice but water is cold most of times. There are lot of other amenities too for kids. The spa is decent and worth trying out.

Booking Process:
Now comes the nightmare. The booking policies are very opaque for Club Mahindra members.
Its literally impossible to get a booking for weekends if you are a member. Even making a reservation for weekdays is a pain. You have to contact Call center multiple times and almost beg for a reservation. The booking is not yet open for white and blue seasons members at all (thats cutting off a sizeable chunk of members).

Ofcourse, if you are not a member, things are much easier. There are agents who continue to "sell" holidays at this resort to non-members (both weekdays and weekends) at very reasonable rates. So, if you actually want to visit this CM property, dont buy their membership (or use your membership nights in case you are already a member). Instead, buy holidays through agents to visit this resort. Infact, CM recently changed its membership rules to favour agents by increasing the limit on maximum number of guest bookings per year. The resort management seem to have adopted a "CM Members last" reservation policy with higher priority given to agents who bring in the non-members (and hopefully convert these leads into potential members through their sales office at resort).

Service

The staff overall is quite courteous but not efficient. The staff took almost 2 hours (despite calling reception multiple times) before they finally arrived to pickup our bags at the time of checkout.

Room Tip: Hotel unit rooms are better

Lake Pavna Tungi is a good getaway for the business and family travellers for the weekend.. the resort would do well to
a) improve the lighting in the rooms
b) provide wifi or cable internet in rooms
c) Desperate need to improve the access road from the Amby valley shoulder.. the last 10km is quite a forgettable experience

Went there for 2 nights on my birthday and it was amazing. The place is 25 km ahead of Lonavala and the last 10km to the resort is very bumpy - so once there we did not go out at all but there are lots of activities/facilities within the resort to do over 2 days - spa, swimming, yoga, badminton, cycling, etc. Buffet is also good, alacarte is slightly expensive for the quality. This is a place if you wanna get out of your daily hustle bustle in Mumbai. Lake looks beautiful and the start studded sky in the night is the highlight of the place.

Room Tip: You have to pick a room on 1st floor overlooking the lake !
