No proper parking facilities. Climbing is uneven so, become tired. Dolly facility is available but no proper display, from where to get. Caves are ok.

Karla caves is good from the point of view of treeking and visiting the ekvira temple but from the point of view of caves do't think it is worth seeing. For the mumbai and pune people it is ok as a day trip ,. The sight seeing is worth

To reach these caves, one has to drive south of Lonava to Karla apx 9 kms on Mumbai Pune highway. The parking lot is reached via a zig zag road which is nearly half way up. From here, one has to take steps, some of them steep, to reach the caves taking apx 20 minutes of straining climb.
There is the Ekvira mata temple in front of the main cave and surprising many locals visit this place to pray.
The caves have beautifully carved human figures and a huge hall with a stupa. The hall has carved pillars with carved statues on top ends.
Many feel that the figures are almost identical to those at Ellora, Kenhary caves etc.but all these caves and carvings were during second to fourth century and have Buddhist background, so some similarity.
A must visit place when in Lonavala but if you have the strength to climb up and see the nice scenic views after visiting the caves.

The 200 odd steps winding climb is in itself a lovely exercise. But 100% of people going there are going for the temple (very ordinary & made at best 30yrs back) & the place is setup for that.

What is dying of neglect & truly amazing (though you can't explore much of it) are the Buddhist halls/housing carved out of the stone side of the mountain 1800 years ago by travelling monks/subsequent followers, totally unknown to mankind. At least due to the temple, unlike other tourist places in Lonavala this one wasn't badly littered.

The Karla cave is a short drive if you re in Lonavla for a weekend...Cave is very ancient with an Ashokan Pillar "As stated in the web"..beautiful architecture ...of gupta period style...but in need of maintenance...there is a temple at the entrance called temple of Ekveera Mata worshipped by Kolis...but the cave apprach has a steep climb..good for poeple without any heart /joint ailments .Not recommened for elderly or with babies/infants .It would be wise to carry water bottle and a good pair of comfortable sports shoe for comfortable climbing.
