“Noisiest Place on the Planet”
Reviewed May 6, 2012

Brilliant sight, a must-see, blah blah blah but please remember that it is in Bijapur and that the town itself is not much to write home about. Gol Gumbaz is an enormous building with a spectacular dome, apparently second only to the one in the Vatican. One of the ways it is advertised is that a whisper is amplified ten fold inside the dome. This, ironically, leads hordes of families to scream at the top of their lungs inside the dome which lead me to conclude that this must easily be one of the nosiest places on the planet. The walk up the stairs to the top is well worth it by the way cause then you get to actually see the marvelous dome from close by. It is a little scary though and if vertigo and the odd sensation of wanting to jump to your death at funny heights with little to no railing is your thing give it some thought beforehand. I thought it was quite 'dizzying'.

“Interesting after seeing Agra”
Reviewed April 28, 2012

The noise from tourists was exceptionally loud in the mausoleum not a very reverent attitude we thought but worth the visit.
We were overwhelmed by the number of visitors who wanted to speak and have their photo taken with us

“incredible INDIA (Bijapur,Karnataka)”
Reviewed April 14, 2012

Gol Gumbaz ((a reference to the flower/rose/lotus petals that surround the dome at its base, making it appear as a budding rose)-- is the mausoleum of Mohammed Adil Shah, Sultan of Bijapur. The tomb, located in Bijapur, Karnataka in India, was completed in 1656 by the architect Yaqut of Dabul. Although "impressively simple in design", it is the "structural triumph of Deccan architecture"

“Go early, use a guide”
Reviewed April 12, 2012

We suffered from the excessive noise the school kids and other tourists make in the "whispering gallery". We went there again early next morning. They open at 6AM I think. It was awesome.

Make sure you take a guide, else will miss out lot of interesting stuff.

“Beauty and Disrespect....”
Reviewed April 3, 2012

A beautiful building 250Rp plus 25Rp camera. Fee to leave shoes outside too. It has onsite Museuem (extra cost). Building is magnificent outside and has a beauty and presence. Inside is very bare (mausoleum). Upper external wallkays have great city views. MOST annoying is locals who shout in the 'whispering gallery'. Go VERY early and avoid them...
