We stayed in Kait’s home on our honeymoon. We think Kait’s home is best place in Alleppey for honeymooners .We stayed here for 4days/3 nights; it is in Champakulam Village which is about 20 km from the town and its location is fantastic. The property is situated on the bank of river where you can sit and enjoy village life around, there is greenery everywhere you can see beautiful flora, flowers and birds in property itself, you are woke up sweet songs of birds in evening you can visit village market or go to see snake boat or to have walk around green paddy fields (But be sure that you return before it is too dark),it is part of great eco-tourism. Most important feature of this home stay is services provided by Mr. Jossy and his Family, all people around you have very good understanding of needs of their guests, for example we told them we were on our honeymoon we don’t wanted to be disturbed, we used to wakeup by 12 noon or some day later but no body came to our cottage to wake up us as soon we got up and got fresh we were served with our delicious breakfast at 14 o’clock !!!!!.
Again we both were north Indian and strictly vegetarians so we wished to cook our food our wish was completed. The whole family including Jossy, his wife, his mother, his uncle, even children of the family joined the kitchen and helped us in cooking, it was really very touching conduct. We wanted a bike to go to Merrari Beach Jossy arranged it immediately. Jossy and his family left no stone unturned to make our stay comfortable and memorable we are highly overwhelmed with serving outlook of the family. They really believe in Indian tradition of “ATITHI DEVO BHAV”(The guest is god).We wish them best of luck for their bright future. One thing we must recommend if you are staying at Kait’s Home take a ride of village boat just nearby the property, the boatman charges only 1 rupee per person (doubtless the cheapest service you can enjoy in India!!!) and drop you at other side of river where you can enjoy peoples activities on river bank children are going to schools, people are taking bath, washing their cloths it is very nice experience.

My husband and three young children and I happened across Kait's Home by sheer luck. I can see by the many rave reviews that Jossy Thomas and his family's homestay have been discovered. They are a wonderful family with a truly special historic home and bungalows on the banks of the backwaters. We were treated with nothing but utmost graciousness and hospitality. The food was beautiful - absolutely delicious, and fresh from the river and the surrounding area. My children helped to catch and dry fish and we were all treated to a tour of the prolific gardens. We explored the area by boat and by foot and, in the Thomas family's kind hands, were able to soak up the history and views of the River Pamba.

Kait's as one of the highlighs of our trip to Soutern India. Jossy and his wife manage to provide a very personal experience without being obtrusive.
Taking walks with Jossy in the evening allowed us to see the area in a way we never would have otherwise. One of the highlights of our trip was happening upon some catfish-catching. Also saw remarkable birds, bats, a snakeboat...
Jossy arranged a houseboat/car to our next locations -- everything we needed during our time there was seamless.
Jossy's place is also ideal for some r and r--we spend some time just watching life go by on the river.
The food is delicious.
All in all, recommend Jossys highly.

We decided on Kaits Home based on the very positive reviews on this site. We booked through the Raintree hotel in Cochin (also recomended). We spent 17 days in Kerala, and this was overall the loveliest part of the trip. Jose and his family were fabulous hosts and we felt as if we were their special guests. We stayed in the pretty cabins on the river. These were basic, but roomy and private bath. We only stayed 2 nights, but would have loved to stay more. Sitting on the porch watching the river life was so beautiful and peaceful.

I have to say, the food here was the best we had our 17 days! That includes well known restaurants in Cochin. We requested duck and freshwater prawns (small extra cost) and these were prepared beautifully. It seems they must spend all day cooking. The food is presented beautifully and served to each person individually from the serving bowls. We had all our meals on the gazebo beside the river.

Any request we had of Jose, including storing our beer in the cooler was answered by Jose with "why not?". Jose has had this place in his family for (I believe) over 10 generations. His personal tour of the village and surrounds is not to be missed.

Our only regret was that we did not stay longer...

We were referred to this charming little place by our hotel in Fort Cochin (The Old Harbour which is also excellent by the way).

We did not know what to expect and were a little hesitant but I have to say that Kait's certainly did not disappoint us! With its family feel and village charm, the stay was really pleasant.

We had single bedroom apartment with a view of the backwaters. The room and bathroom was very clean and the reception warm. We arrived unexpectedly but they were warm and welcoming, and even rushed to prepare breakfast for us. Certainly a place we would visit again. The food was really good - traditional Keralan home cooked meals and lots of good Indian coffee whenever we asked for it.

Jossy and his family are warm and inviting and helpful too.

We were directed to this wonderful place by our travel agent. A wonderful family awaited us and made sure our 3 day break was well taken care of! We enjoyed our stay immensely and special mention must be made of the food served, which was authentic, fresh and delicious. The owners are perfect hosts and go out of their way to look after all your needs and comforts. Absolutely worth recommending for a stay on the banks of the famed Keralan backwaters!
