“A relaxing night in Alleppey”
Reviewed January 31, 2012

The resort is away from the noisy center of Alleppey. A wonderful garden with cottages which are very basic but clean and comfortable (and CHEAP...Rs.950). The owners (especially the wife, I don't recall her name) are extremely helpful and will make your stay so plesant you will not feel like leaving (upon my arrival I was asked if I wanted a massage and was sent off to the nearest Ayurvedic centre...discounted price if they book for you: from Rs.900 to Rs.600). Breakfast is not included but it is very cheap (around Rs.120). They also provide internet. Remember to bring mosquito replent...the nasty little beasts are everywhere cause of the water.

I booked a few nights stay at Palmy Lake Resort for my stay in Alappuzha on line after reading the many positive reviews.
I have stayed at many budget hotels and B&Bs and found this one was tired, worn and ready for a facelift. It nestles down an unremarkable and badly posted driveway with no views of any water....which is what most people come to Alappuzha for.
In fact, the back of the property ends in a swamp. There is a really serious mosquito problem and repellent is essential if you go outside.
The cottages are old and furniture is worn. The few hummocks outside sag badly. The rooms are big but very bland, dingy and unremarkable. I have had much better for less than the Rp 950 per night I paid.
Palmy Lake Resort is also too far out of town to walk. Tuk tuks are over priced for tourists but are the only way to get anywhere from here. The resort has two bikes and these belong in a museum.

Room Tip: There is better for cheaper in the neighbourhood.

The cottage are good but the clean is so bad...we are there only one night, be careful and ask first if is a catholical party in the church because they start with indian songs at 6.30 am. Every sunday is this party but we go on friday... They don't prepare food in the evening. The rickshow from
bus station is 50rps if the hotel send you, but you can go for 30-40rps by yourself. Is a family house, is ok but not price quality relation. We ask for a discount because only we can slept until 6.30, but only 100rps of discount. Better if you try to find other options.

I stayed here in late November 2011 and found it very relaxing, comfortable and easy. The room was comfortable, the cottage is spacious and everything is clean. It was in a good location, not too far from town, and very peaceful and quiet. It was also exceptionally affordable! Mercy, the proprieter, is very nice and makes a great breakfast - either European of Indian as you like. She can also set you up with just about anything you need - a massage, boat tour, driver, etc. I would have paid more to stay here, it was so nice. Yes, there are mosquitoes. It's to be expected given all the waterways there are in Alleppey. I used Neem Oil and had no problems.

Room Tip: The thatched cottages are more charming but you will have animals trying to make their way in at nig...

We stayed here for two nights. The cottage was really nice, spacious and with good mosquito netting on the windows. We had our own little verandah looking out onto the garden, a great place to sit and watch the fireflies at night. They also brought round mosquito coils in the evenings which we appreciated.

The service could have been a bit more friendly but can't really complain. We got a home cooked breakfast of 2 eggs, toast and jam each morning and there was a computer for internet use available. We were charged for both internet and breakfast which was fine but it would've been nice to know before we took advantage of these services rather than finding outat check-out.

We were very pleased with the houseboat that we arranged through the guest house. Their houseboat is smaller than most, with one double/twin room, ensuite and single storey. But the boat still had a lovely outside sitting/dining area and the small size meant the boat could go down some narrower waterways. The guys on the boat were really nice and the food they cooked was excellent! We had a really enjoyable time on the houseboat which cost 5200 rupees which was also the best price we could find.

Overall a nice place to stay, if a little out of the way (make sure you have the address if you get a rickshaw), and I would definitely recommend the houseboat.

This is a great place to stay in the backwaters in Alleppey, Kerala. The room rate comes with breakfast and the owners offer various tours to see the backwaters. We enjoyed the private canoe ride, seeing the small canals.

Accommodation was clean and neat, and the hosts also arranged for a back water boat ride. Trust me the stay here and the 3Hr back water ride (for ~3k) was way better than the over night house boat (~10K) we took sometime back.
