“Good for overnight stay.”
Reviewed March 8, 2010

We stayed here out of compulsion rather than by choice. We had to get on houseboat next day and this was the nearest one. The other resort (Kayaloram) was full and it was already 7 in evening. Review is as below.

1) Resort location is good and room rates are reasonable. We dont get a A/C cottage so had to stay in a room.

2) Room doors open in the restaurant directly! thats the most wierd thing I have seen. Rooms are basic and had a cupboard. Bathroom were decent. The resort had a typical Keralayite look. Dont expect a 3* service as they are a bit short staffed and it's ok for a night's stay.

3) We dint had food at the resort because they had limited options and we were pure veg. (to top it, Jain too!) We had food at Arya's in Alleppey town. Though there were not many options there also but we had better food.

Over all a not so bad resort for one night if you have houseboat planned next day.

Oh my God you guys! We came to Alleppey for the houseboat tour but having stayed here and gone on the houseboat, i can honestly say that you get more value staying at Keraleeyam. Make sure you ask for the cabin because some rooms connect directly to the restaurant and nothing to write home about. The little cabin we had did not have a/c and honestly I didn't miss it. It was located just meters away from the lilly padded, undulating, lazy waters of the canal. From the comfy chair on our porch or the hammock nearby you can watch the parade of humming houseboats put put by. This is advatageous because you can assess the good from the bad and the just plain ugly houseboats. In addition, the scenery is...well...scerene.
The inside of the cabin was charming and romantic with little mosquito netted, clean white sheeted beds. The bathroom was fully functional and you even had the option of a warm shower (rare, I know). There was a little wardrobe for your packs and a cute desk and chair for documenting your trip or writing to family. One night the skies opend up in a downpour and I was sure that the thatch roof would leak. I humbly stand corrected. Not a speck of rain touched our gear so we went outside and loafed on the porch.
This may be the alternative to the houseboating business that Alleppey is known for. You certainly get better value for 1710Rs a night. To be honest, we did end up with a good houseboat and good staff, but we found that the overnight trip was overpriced. Go to Keraleeyam and book ahead, they can fill up fast. Oh yeah, did I mention that they give full body oil massages for $800Rs? Need I say more?

Me and my friend stayed here for one night, after first passing it with the houseboat the day before.
Wonderful cottage, wonderful location. Very peaceful.
The cottage was very clean.

We decided to stay for 2 days in Alleppey and thankfully got reservation in a Non-AC cottage (Rent was Rs. 1850/night). The location is a big plus, as backwaters were almost at the edge of our cottage. The cottage are very good and they provide all the basic needs there. They give you a steel wardrobe as well. Room service is also provided.

Indian food (which we took) was very good and was reasonably priced. But you have to order food at least 2 hours in advance.

I took a fully body massage (cost was 793 Rs) and it was quite good as well. Most of the people coming to Keraleeyam seem to have come for some kind of Ayurvedic Treatment.

Staff at the restaurant is well behaved, but staff at reception needs to learn more. They arranged some boat-rides for us and were helpful.

We arrived looking forward to a week of R & R at what we thought was an aruyvedic resort. After being shown to a room that reeked of mould, we were taken to another room on the outskirts of the hotel - a long walk to the main area along a slippery path with no lighting. We had to beg for a torch so we could get back after dinner! The room had a great view of the lake...and also of the next door neighbour urinating in his front yard. When the mozzies got too much (there were no coils) we retreated to the dark depressing hut, reminiscent of what you get in thailand for a few bucks a night. Certainly not worth the 900 euro they wanted for the week! The *consultation* with the aruyvedic doctor was like something of fawlty towers, but the treatments were great. Really good local professionals, but no choice on when we could have them. While the food was good and I didnt even mind picking my food for the next meal in advance while eating my dinner, the atmosphere was spartan and depressing. The only people we saw were older european tourists who didn't seem to mind the desultory vibe. Final moan -the *yoga class* was held in the sleeping quarters of some staff and consisted of a few stretches and alot of talking about the theory of yoga. One night and we were outta there (even though it cost us!).

There are two great aspects of staying at this place: Excellent location and great food! I took my parents to Alleppey and accordingly booked an air conditioned cottage. Every morning, our family bonding would start sitting on the front poach watching the golden rays of the sun reflect beautifully in the waters! The property is well maintained and has lot of greenery. We also were impressed with the quality of food. The hotel staff were also considerate to customize the food according to our taste.

The areas for improvement would include unreasonable price charges for stuff like ayurvedic treatments and other charges. This led us to go for ayurvedic treatment to other places nearby the resort.

Would certainly go again!

I arrived here for my final two days of a great 2 week tour round India and left pretty dissapointed. I was greated rather coldly by the staff who didnt seem to understand the meaning of the word hospitality. It felt like Travel Lodge suervice rather than a boutique resort. They offered no information as to what was available to do in the area and gave a look of suprise to any questions about the resort or surrounding area. They offered no refreshments outside meal tmes which would have perfect to enjoy on our balcony which overlooked the back waters. The room was nice as was the view from the terrace, the dining area felt a bit like cold war hungary. The food was cheap and average/good. To add to this there is zero to do, dont get me wrong the back waters are nice to enjoy for a couple of hours but I would reccomend staying in the area, you'd be better off taking a boat through Alleppeey and staying somewhere else. Alleeppey Beach is fairly uninspiring with no sunbathers or swimmers, Alleeppey town offers very little also.
