Good old temple, not too crowded. It is not too far from main city. Good and Kerala style temple. It is very big temple with many other small temples

The temple is very nice, calm and clean. I felt that removing shoes outside the premises, removing shirts and banyan is a lot of effort to go to see the Gods and Goddesses.

Situated close to Allepey (Alapuzha) on the sides of National Highway No 47, in Kerala, this is a famous and historic temple of Lord Sri Krishna. This is a huge temple complex. The deity is in the boyhood form of the Lord.

The most important offering here is the Kheer (Payasam) popularly known as "Ambalapuzha Palpayasam". This Kheer made of Rice, Milk and Sugar has an exqusite taste unmatched by any other preparations anywhere else.

This temple under t he Travancore Devaswom Board was under the Travancore Dynasty. An original art form of Kerala, called "Ottam Thullal" was first enacted in this temple by its protogonist, the late Kunjan Nambiar. This art form where the actor narrates and enacts epical stories along with lots of satire and fun is not as popular as the famous "Kathakali" but is even now popular in the state.

When you travel from Kollam(Quilon) to Alleppey, look for a major junstion on the NH where there is a structure indicating the turning to this temple.

A must see for any Krishna devotee.

I was totally disgusted with the experience at Guruvayoor with the way devotee crowds are dealt and behaviour of priests and others managing the flow of devotees....so a visit to this place was totally opposite.
The place allows you those precious moments of calm and feeling spiritual. You can pray. The only thing lacking is proper signage for visitors who dont understand Malyalam. A map of the temple courtyard marking major places will be very good.
