I specifically wished to stay outside the noisy town however did not want to pay some of the high 'boutique homestay' prices. This was perfect. If your budget allows the two bungalows are terrific value. (Rs.800 per night). They face the paddy and are large rooms with outside seating on polished marble veranda and hammock for lazing. You are aware of the town/lights in the distance however its quite and relaxed. The guys running the place are really great and very sincere. Cold water only and don't expect the ritz, i thought it wonderful. I met some interesting people and usually a few of us would go into town for dinner. No restaurant however they can bring food in and this works fine. Bear in mind there are only four rooms (two in building two bungalow). I would highly recommend reserving i saw a good number of people turn up to find it full (it was December tho). Free working Wi-Fi . They will help with boats and onward arrangements. Bugs and frogs at night (paddy field in hot country, its gonna be). Bring repellent and torch for the 5min walk to rickshaw drivers. Terrific!

lake and paddies is a great place, simple (dont expect luxury) but almost magic with respect to the surroundings. We stayed there for one night before catching a boat. The location it very special, beatifully located in a suburban area between, as the name suggests, a river and a paddy field. The city is a 40 Rs Riksha-ride away. Dont forget to bring your flashlight and mosquito stuff if you come back late at night, it is getting really dark out there. The whole place is managed by a very friendly young guy with support from his smaller brother. They also organized a great house boat which picked us up right from lake and paddies, these were the most relaxed two days we spent in India, aaaaaah.

Room Tip: We had the normal rooms in the main building, but the bungalows looked even better.

Lake and Paddy is in a gorgeous spot with the back bungalows (we stayed in one of these) situated pretty much right on a rice paddy, while the main building is right on the lake. Sitting on the verandah watching the sun set over the paddy was lovely.

The rooms are comfortable but basic, no hot water, just cold, but that's fine in the steady 30 degree heat. Sheets could have been a tad cleaner and with the swarms of Mozzies, ac would b a good option to have.

The lads that run Lake and Paddy are lovely. Helpful and genuinely friendly. The place does definitely have a run by boys feel to it. There's no meals provided or cooking facilities, if you want food, the boys will provide a take-out menu and then one of them will whizz off on his motorbike and fetch it for you. They do make a great masala chai though :)

Allepey is an easy ferry ride or rickshaw ride away should you want to eat something other than takeaway, and the boys will arrange boat trips etc.

All in all this place is great value for such a special location and lovely hosts.

Room Tip: Bungalows with paddy view have the perk of a verandah to sit out on, but the rooms in the main build...

What a pleasure it was to stay at lake and paddy. I stayed a few nights in mid July and the temperature was fine, especially with the breeze blowing in off the rice fields on the west side of the resort. This side is superb for sunset watching. viewed from the comfortable balcony, the east side of the resort virtually sits above a large canal, which looks like a river but is part of the lake/canal system. There's guys with with basic lines and hooks fishing below the balcony, kids playing volleyball over the other side of the river, beyond them the flat green expanse of more rice fields. Herons, cormorants, eagles, kingfishers. Theres a dirt path lining the side of the canal. Aside from the occasional slow boat, the musical sounds of village life and frogs, there isn't much noise here. I stayed in one of the 2 back bungalows, which was comfortable and functional if u are not expecting luxury. I found the staff to be friendly and helpful, but do order dinner well in advance because they have to get it from somewhere else and it can take a while. They will also help with canoe or boat trips (of course). If u take the canoe trip, I think half a day is enough. to get to the resort take the public ferry to pallatharuthy and head back along the path for 200 metres or so, or ask one of the villagers where it is. When I was there they had a yellow shade umbrella out the front near the water. You can also get a rickshaw and walk the last few minutes where there is no road. This is indeed a special place.

An amazing place to get away from the hussle bussle of the city. A must stop in your tour to recharge and unwind in an idyllic setting of the green rice paddys and the lake. The food is amazing and 24hr room service is great.

Room Tip: Grab a bungalow on the paddy side

This place just blew our minds! We arrived unprepared at the busstation (as always) and were therefore a little wary of little Shabab coming up to us talking us into a room. When we arrived however we found out it he was sincere about his promises on the scenery, quality of the rooms and price! We only planned to stay for a night or maybe 2, but we ended up staying 4, making a trip there and back to Munnar coming back to Lake and Paddy for another two days just to hang out before having to go back home... Never felt so at home anywhere else in India! Don't reckon there could be any better place to stay around Allepey, we honestly left there with a lump in our throats! Thanks Shabab, we had the most amazing time, and the best group of friends if only for a short while!

Room Tip: The paddy cottages are just the best, but either way you can hang out everywhere so it doesn't r...

This guest house is about 2 k from town, in a much better location. Generally, to experience Kerala it is best to stay outside of town. Lake and paddy isset between the river and a rice paddy. Very nice, honest, and conscientious staff. Owned by two friends, they are helpful and friendly. We were met at the bus terminal by one of the owners, who approached usinthe most polite manner and was honest about the property and available services.
The property is clean, breakfast is available on site and for meals they have a restaurant menu which they run to town to pickup orders. They also make runs for other necessary supplies.
They are able to arrange boat tours and house boats we had a full day canoe trip. Our guide was very good, and we were able to meet his family and have local food for breakfast and lunch prepared by his wife.
Overall a clean and relaxing place to stay.
