“JCT Houseboats - Amazing Experience”
Reviewed December 25, 2013

We had an amazing time in the house boats they were neat and clean. Comfortable room. Well trained staff and an amazing cook. He prepared whatever we asked for. The best thing about jct house boats is they dock in the night far off so you get extra time to cruise. The staff was an amazing guide for us during the village walk and the small boat ride early in the morning. Did not feel like coming out of the boat once we finished our cruise.

“Good experience of backwaters”
Reviewed December 21, 2013

we took a 2 hours ride from the resort we were staying in kumarakom. The ride started from the lake and took us around the village, through the canals giving a good view of the village life, paddy fileds, the backwaters. We didnt want to stay overnight in a houseboat so got a good feel of the backwaters in this 2 hour boat rides through a canoe boat. Be mindful of the price you are paying though as we ended up paying about 1200 an hour whereas the local village ferry would have taken 400-600 per hour. Nevertheless it was a good experience and 2 hours certainly were more than enough for us.

“Avoid Pulickatill if you can”
Reviewed December 21, 2013

Avoid Pulickatill if you can. I had booked a Deluxe Independent Pulickatill houseboat which was supposed to be 4 star houseboat and they provided me a local houseboat rather by keeping me in dark.

“nice experience”
Reviewed December 13, 2013

We booked a complete boat with 1 chef, 1 driver and 1 more staff. The experience was very good. We got a welcome drink as soon as we boarded and the boat started on time. The food was very good and the best part was the candle light dinner arranged for us during the night. The fish fry was excellent too :)
The amenities provided within the boat were good and the cleanliness was up to the mark.

“Venice of India !!”
Reviewed December 12, 2013

Venice of India. Wonderful scenery everywhere. Worth experience to do backwater village tour. Do your negotiation with the boat fellow, there is space for that. Before hiring the boat do visit the inside once (like we see room in hotel before check-in). Sometimes it is found to be clumsy.
Once journey starts, it is dream come true. Over night stay in houseboat, evening walk in any nearby villages where houseboat is parked in night hours.

Houseboats do not travel throughout the night. By evening it is parked at shore of the lake because night is reserved for fishing for local fishers by government. Ask the chef on board to cook authentic keralite dishes. If you are non-veg, they will get fish live from the lake for you !!

One Suggestion: If you really want to lost yourself with this wonderful experience, do hire a boat which is NOT having satellite TV dish with it. Else we will be seating and watching TV only in boat at the expense of loosing the wonderful experience. :-)
