“Excellent value”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 25, 2013

This is great value! The small hotel is a few minutes walk to the ferry, bus station, great restaurants (try Thaff -ask owner where it is). The beach is quite a hike - about 3-4 k's. I walked there and caught a tuk tuk back for 50Rs. I'm not much of a swimmer but the life guard said it's the safest beach in Southern India. There aren't any tourist facilities at the beach, unlike almost anywhere else in the world, which makes it kind of special.
The internet works super fast, but perhaps because I'm directly behind the server. My room for 400Rs is plenty big enough. It's clean with really comfy beds AND pillows - what a refreshing change. There is sufficient to make yourself comfortable and a little extra, with towels provided. The bathroom is squeaky clean, has cold water, which is fine in this weather.
The hotel is family owed and they are so attentive. All my questions were answered, and they are happy to sit and chat.
All in all, a great budget hotel in a great location. I think one day in Alleppey is enough - just to get your bearings and decide on the next leg of your trip.
Oh, my tuk tuk driver found this place difficult to find. The Palmy Regency is just off Finishing Point Road, with the lane way opposite the foot bridge that leads to the ferry terminal.

We had already booked an advance room in Palmy regency. We were given a big room with an extra bed and small TV (for Rs 600/-). Everything is nice about this homestay except powercut and mosquitoes. Be sure to carry mosquito repellent cream, though they have mosquito net . One more disadvantage is that the restaurants are a bit far away. 10 mins walk. Sometimes after day long tour we were so tired that we felt it would be better if the homestay had a restaurant in it.

Initially when I booked the room I felt it is too cheap and was on a doubt like what kind of rooms would they provide. But I went to Allepy I found found that all the homestays range from Rs 300-Rs 700 and you can definitely bargain.

The owner Mr Sijo has a houserent he he rents for Rs 6000(approx) for two persons one day.
We took a shikara for the backwaters. It wsa in very good condition and to above all the boatman spoke perfect hindi which was a relief. Anzi-9946674367/9446384252.
Pay no more than Rs 300/hr. About 6 persons can seat in the shikara. 3-4 hrs ride is sufficient.

Alleppey has ample number of homestays and hotels at a very cheap rate. If u dont have much luggage and travelling in a group you can go there a search for a good homestay or hotel.

There are a few Palmy's in Alleppey and we ended up at this one while trying to find the cheaper one (Rs 300 per night). Actually, this one worked out even better at only Rs 500 per night we had a huge room, comfy bed and a small TV. The rooms were very clean and there was also a generator which was handy due to the several powercuts a day.

It takes about 5 minutes to walk to the bus station and the main streets of the city are only another few minutes walk from there. To be honest, I didn't think there was that much worth seeing in Alleppey, like most people, we used it as a base while we found the best houseboat deal we could.

My advice to you would be to book one night, spend as much time as you can pinning down the best houseboat deal and go out on your houseboat the next day. The Palmy actually have several houseboats, we headed out to see one of them but we didn't think it was worth the money so we ended up going with Venice Cruises - worth checking out.

I stayed here for two nights, I found this guest house at the last minute when I arrived in Alleppey. The people who work here are so welcoming and friendly.

I had the room for 350 rupees a night with my own fan room and ensuite shower. There's no hot water and you don't need one anyways because the water is not that cold.

The room is very clean, and comes with mosquito net. It's about 1 minute walk from Boat Jetty road but it is very close to the ferry dock and bus station. And it's about 4 km from train station. Perfect for solo traveler who are on a budget. I did a public ferry to go to Kottayam to see the Backwaters (for about 5 hours return and 18 rupees in fares), and I signed up a canoe trip with the guest house. About 900 rupees for the whole day including breakfast and lunch. It is a very scenic ride into the small canals in the Backwater.

Overall I had an excellent stay here, highly recommended!!

Very clean, very nice people, especially Abab, who has become a friend and can arrange everything! Very good price/quality value. For your information: there are 3 (!) Palmy location in and around Allepey. Regency is near the center, Residency a little further away, and resort is outside of town. Rickshaw drivers do not always know the difference between the locations. Be sure to tell them to go to North of DTPC Foot Bridge. Directly opposite of this footbridge there is a small road with a sign. The photo above is not the right one, but the place is very calm. Rent a scooter for about Rps 350 p/day to go to the quiet beach or get a bike for free to save rickshaw expenses. Pay no more than Rps 60/70 for a rickshaw from or to railway station or Allepey beach.

Have a good time!
