This is mainly for those who loves traditional dances. If you are fond of dance, it worth it. Heavy costumes and make up.

The resorts we had stayed in had cultural shows in the evenings we were there. One was Kathakali, the famous Masked dance on Hindu Epics. The other was Mohiniattam, a dance form unique to Kerala. Both were executed well and by young artists.

Real culture in a bit of a touristy way. Discover how dance and facial expresions replace language to tell a story to people who may not have always spoken the same language or dialect. True Indian culture.

Kathakali is a dance one must not miss if you are visiting Kerala. Expressions are very important in the dance and require a lot of training. I was told that it requires a training of about 6 years. Costumes, makeup is very heavy and requires a lot of time. We watched the dance in Thekkedy, though it can in seen in most cities of Kerala.

Kathakali was originated in Kerala .People gets attracted to the make up,costumes, gestures and body movements which is very unique.Even though there are 101 kathakali stories only very few are played. The duration of kathakali is about a full night, but for the interest of tourists it is played in shorter duration.live plays are in thekkady and munnar every evening.one hour performance cost rs 200 per person.
