The situation of this property on the backwaters is just perfect but inside it is rather grubby - the rooms are OK, not sure about the outside shower room, and the dining/sitting area is completely underwhelming. Food wasn't really worth mentioning. The view from the rear is stunning but to appreciate it we carried two chairs out onto the public path as from the property it is obstructed by a wall. Cannot recommend.

Our stay here was giving us a relaxing time after our houseboat trip in the backwaters.
The staff is very friendly and welcoming and made everything possible for us. They arranged a sunset cruise which is included in the room rates and organized a canoe-tour the next day with a local guide. They also offered us a very nice ayurvedic massage for a good rate. They offered us a guided walking tour to explain the rice paddies next to the house and they arranged the boat tickets to Kollam.

Our room is very nice and clean with a four poster bed where we could hang up our mosquito-net. In the windows there is mosquito-wire so you can leave a window open without insects coming in. There is also an a/c if you like that better. It has a spacious bathroom with a nice shower.
We also liked the food a lot, vegetarian and non-vegetarian.

This was suggested by the rough guide so we stayed in this great old ancestral house for 2 nights. the location is very carm and quiet. they have lot of activities and we were lucky to experience it all.The night fishing which they with a local fisherman and his son is amazing, but that is only if your lucky as we couldnot repeat it on the second as the water was not clear. they have this lovely canoe rides which will actually see the village life there. we did a half day tour on kayaking. and the evening sunset on there motor boat with Mr moncy (helper) was unforgetable. they have lovely staff they are very caring and smillimg always. you get good keralan food too. we just loved it!!!!!

Room Tip: There are rooms with open to sky toilets we stayed in one of them.

Beautiful 125 year old original building, set in rice paddies on the banks of the Pamba river. Very helpful and friendly staff who will organise excursions for you. River bus to Alleppy stops almost outside the door. The food is excellent and the rooms are air conditioned. If you wanta good base to explore the region, this is it.

I stayed at this homestay for 4 days and it was just magic. I didn't originally pick this place but the one I did got cancelled and this was an unplanned treasure found! This is not a homestay where one stays with a family, the owners live in Alleppey and employ small number of staff to look after their grand old home. The ambience is awesome. They are situated right on the backwaters with their houseboats moored at the front. The locals walk past, it is like living in the village.
The building is large and traditional, the rroms and furniture just grand. It is a bit dark inside, however that is a bonus in hot weather, and the verandah overlooking the backwaters is very sunny. So is the large back yard, with hammocks and mango trees. Perfect for relaxing and reading.
The staff are very friendly and nothing is trouble to ask for. This is thje perfect base for the backwaters trip. Every kind of watercraft passes by. One can have a houseboat trip from the front door, or in my case and whole day small motor boat trip, with a choice to go wherever one wants, a stop for a Keralan lunch and at many interesting places to see, On the following day it was a canoe trip though smaller waterways - just wonderful. Then there is a walk though a village along the waters, beautiful, and the night fishing - even that I do not particularly like fishing -it was a wonderful expereince.
Food was magnificent and plentifull. I preferred to be served a Keralan breakfast to the European style, the staff were happy to provide.
There was free internet access and plently of hot water.
There was no need to go elsewhere to experience the backwaters, everything was around me. UNFORGETTABLE.
.

Room Tip: I saw two rooms and they were both lovely.

We were really looking forward to our stay in this hotel as it was recommended on our travel guide, had a few good reviews and the website promised a great experience. We felt completely let down in more than one way. The property is truly beautiful located in a gorgeous peaceful stretch of the river. And that’s about it.
Sadly, is not well maintained and no thought has been put into making it a beautiful and comfortable place. The rooms are large and have some nice furniture but are spartan and with no ambiance whatsoever. We had fluorescent lights – half of which didn’t work.
The gardens are not well looked after. The service is appalling. Feels like a cowboy took over and employed people that have absolutely no experience in hospitality.
The dining room feels like a hospital cantine and the food was not particularly good.

Our first disappointment was to find out that none of the activities advertised on the website were really available: there was only one bike available, which is no great when you are a couple; the kayaks are not freely available but have to be booked to include a guide and there is a fee attached; no fishing trips were available. We were lucky enough to spot tourists in a canoe and the pointed out to the Green Palm Homes where we could rent a canoe for 100r/hr and had a very nice thali for lunch.
There was a big storm during the night and I woke up because there was water dripping from the ceiling directly into our bed!! The morning after we were moved to another room but by then we were so disappointed we decided to cut our stay short.
When we tried to settle our bill we were told that none of our 4 credit cards worked – despite having used them the day before! – and they were unable to contact their credit card payment provider. So we were forced to pay with cash – which luckily enough we had enough – and were not provided with a proper bill which really made us feel that money was not declared.
It is a great shame as the property is beautiful and has great potential. With the right management this could be a memorable place.

We expected more for the price we paid and the reviews on here, but overall our experience was fine, nothing special. Best part was the free sunset cruise on the backwaters and nearby lake- a definite highlight.
