Fairmont Yangcheng Lake
Ranked #2 of 348 Hotels in Kunshan
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed July 16, 2011

Was here for a business trip as a client's factory was opening in the same county and arranged a ceremony and celebratory dinner for his business partners. I stay at the Fairmont Singapore fairly often and was pleasantly surprised to find out that the client (who's paying for the trip) had booked a hotel with such a reputable chain.

To sum up:
Check in and check out smooth And accurate
Rooms very large, modern yet luxurious, well-equipped
Bar staff knowledgable with very good service
Hotel is right next to the Yangcheng lake, away from the Kunshan town centre but very scenic
Very reasonable rack rates

If you want a bit of relaxation, or to stay while you come in October to sample the famous hairy crabs (from the lake next to the hotel), Fairmont is the place to go.

Room Tip: It's okay not to have a lake view

This new hotel right at the shores of famous Yangsheng Lake is perfectly located for a relaxing weekend or a short vacation away from bustling Shanghai.
The rooms are spacious, perfectly equipped with most luxury furniture and amenities, very modern and large bathrooms, fresh contemporary design, wall colours, arts, bedcloths.... perfect matches.
The hotel is ideal for families with kids, large playgrounds, indoor and outdoor pools, wonderful spa for relaxation all right by the lake.
The most remarkable however is the service, every staff tries to please every guest best he can, all your wishes are being read from your lips, remarkable how GM Phil Smith made this all happen in a short amount of time, in the middle of China... The service is outstanding and will make you want to come back.
The three restaurants and lounges of the hotel offer a wide variety of local and international dishes, prepared with organic food grown in its own farm nearby, go and pick your own fresh vegi for take away, its unbelievable, in the middle of China, lush gardens and greenery compliment the beautiful scenery.
Try to find GM Phil Smith and send him my best regards, you will find an excellent hospitality manager and a new friend in Kunshan. Enjoy the FAIRMONT Yangsheng Lake.

Recently spent Easter weekend at this Resort. They offered an amazing egg hunt through the water/nature reserve that is encompassed in the Resort. Such a unique offering and the children loved it spending over 4 hours searching eggs and prizes. The day before that we spent bike riding, picking our own organic vegetables and a round of tennis. The staff and service at this Resort is some of the best we have experienced in China over the past few years - they are young, great English and so very thoughtful, nothing we threw at them was a problem. Rooms are so spacious and have everything you need and then some (large TV's, DVD players, balconies and thoughtful touches such as espresso machine and fresh fruit).

The rooms at the Fairmont are wonderful and roomy. The bed provided perfect support and softness. The bathroom has a heated floor (the GM told me this is true of rooms with an exterior wall). The one notable failing is the poor WiFi (no wired option) strength.

The buffet is extensive and tasty with many western and eastern options. It is expensive so if you are not a big eater and have time, ordering off the menu is a good alternative. "Straight up" drinks in the lounge were fine but mixed drinks were amiss (e.g. a frozen pina colada with little flavor).

The are very friendly and have good English skills.

Stayed here for 3 days for conference, we cant stopped opening our jaws. First off we were transported from Fairmont Peace Hotel after a private tour before it's grand opening, the trip took about an hour from Nanjing road all the way to the property. It is by the country side, but once the exterior shows up it was gorgeous, stunning architecture and was told the building was designed in a feng shui way with good energy and water flow.

The lobby had wall to ceiling tall windows all over, maximizing natural lighting. Stunning chandelier and indoor water fountain with art glass pieces. Lobby lounge is great to catch up while watching the sun setting. They also have an outdoor pool.

The room we got was lake side view so it gives a spacey feeling. Finest amenities - iPod station, 41 inch TV, DVD player, Miller Harris bath products and others. Overall the room was really spacey, I didnt find the bed to be too soft, in fact I like it that way, it's like sinking into mountain of feathers that doesnt fight you back.

The hotel has 2 main restaurants - Yi Feng Chinese restaurant and Essence featuring asian food main stream as well as International cuisine. The unique thing on the menu is the organic food that they farm by the hotel themselves, they also have a bee farm where they produce for your tea or breakfast. Do ask a tour from the hotel, it is free.

When you have free time, do grab the map of the lake available free in the room and get a bike and take a relaxing ride. If not there is also the spa that sends you to heaven. Working out is also great to re-charge with the modern equipments.

Didn't had the room service, but did found a menu again of the organic food they have.

Since we were here for conference, the ballroom we were in were divisible into 2 or 3 parts I think, high ceiling and very modern tech equipments. At night when we had dinner the hotel keep on surprising us with local dragon dance culture, where we were guided to one of the largest round table dinner I have ever seen, it seats about 30+ people or our entire group. Also on the first night we were driven by buggy car to their waterhouse, where they have basketball court, golf course and water park. The waterhouse is essentially an event place for light networking and dinner, with open deck.

This place is a secluded resort, but it is definitely a gem to find.

Stayed 2 nights at this resort as part of a trip on exploring Suzhou and the water villages in the area (Tongli and Zhouzhuang). Chose this Fairmont resort due to the value for money (around 700 RMB per night) and because I am a Fairmont President's Club member. Upon checking in, perhaps due to the low occupancy, I got upgraded to a Fairmont Gold Room with a Lakeview! I was whisked to the Gold Concierge on the highest floor for check-in, and even when I arrived late around 7pm, the Concierge was willing to extend their evening tea service at the Gold Lounge for half an hour, allowing us to place our luggage in the room and have some refreshments and snacks after that.

The room is very well furnished with white being the main theme, providing a light interior. There was a balcony to admire the views of Yangcheng Lake which is also famous for a Jiangsu delicacy - the Hairy Crab. Bathroom was also very well designed with remote control blinds that could open and speakers which allow us to watch the TV while soaking in the tub. The rain shower area is one of the best out there! The resort has 2 main restaurants, an international restaurant (where breakfast is also served at) which serves average food, and a chinese restaurant which had very good cuisine special to this part of China. The Chinese restaurant would also have access to the hairy crabs which would be in season during end Sep - early Oct. Staying in the Gold Floor brings perks such as breakfast in the lounge which was good with a choice of porridge, sausages, eggs and pastries on offer. There were also a variety of books and DVDs to borrow.

Besides a swimming pool, the hotel is linked to a huge park by the lakeside which has activities like golf putting course, jogging, fishing, rock climbing and boating for guests. However the slightly remote location of the hotel meant that getting food outside of the hotel is tricky and no taxis could be found in the area, meaning we had to take the hotel's transport which was quite expensive. We booked the hotel's car for sightseeing which costs us 980 RMB for 8 hrs including chauffeur, petrol and unlimited kms. This was perhaps the only drawback, as otherwise the hotel's staff provided service which is unmatched and made me love the hotel! Credit goes especially to the Gold Concierge staff members which made my stay a memorable one!

Took my wife here for dinner the other night, and recieved a full tour from the Guest Relations manager. What a beautiful place. The rooms were lavish, and the view of the lake was fair. Everyone spoke english, and the dinner was suprizingly inexpensive, comparatively. Not the right season for hairy crab, but that's not really my thing... the river shrip were awesome. If you are looking for a nice relaxing spot on your next business trip and factory tour, why not stay here... for the price of a 2 star at home!
