“Really not a 5 Star hotel”
Reviewed May 28, 2012

I would easily have given the Yizui a 4 rating if they didn't try to pass themselves off as a 5 star. They have a nice lobby, just like every other hotel in China. The room finishing is a cut above most Chinese hotels and the carpet, while worn a good bit, was actually clean. The wall paper in the room was torn ... a clear sign of weak and/or cheap management. The television in my room had a speaker that rattled. This did not bother me since they only have one English channel (CCTV-News). A big surprise was the lack of wireless in the room. A disappointment (but not really a surprise) was that the exercise room doesn't open until 7:00am.

All in all, the Yizui Crown is a nice and clean hotel and not a bad value at $100 / 610 rmb per night. That said, it is far from a 5 Star and my next time in Kunshan I'll be staying at the Courtyard down the street.

I’ve stayed at the Yizui Crown Hotel before and thought I would try it again.

The hotel is very nice, however it is starting to look a little shabby. The carpet in the rooms have stains and definitely show wear. One day the housekeepers did not even vacuum.

My biggest “problem” with this hotel was the lack of air-conditioning. I arrived during a very warm spell in mid April. Temperature was in the upper 70s, and it was muggy. My room was uncomfortably warm. I turned on the air conditioning before going to bed but the temperature kept rising. By mid-night it was 26 degrees C or about 78 degrees F. I turned off the air and opened the window. However the street out front is being torn up so even during the night it was very noisy and dusty.

The next morning I complained to the front desk. They switched me to another room (on the back), but the manager suggested that I do not turn on the air-conditioning – just “open the window”. It was another very warm day and returning to a hot room after spending the day out in the humidity and heat is not fun.

A colleague who speaks Chinese talked to the front desk for me. While there is air-conditioning in the hotel restaurant, they do not turn on the air-conditioning for the rooms until after May 1. So rather than being concerned about the comfort of their guests, they would prefer to ignore the actual weather and to save money by not operating the air-conditioning until an arbitrary date. This seems odd for a top-tier hotel.

They knew I was upset (and warm), so they actually turned on the air to my room. But it was short-lived. As soon as it was dark out they turned it off again.

I won’t be staying at the Yizui Crown Hotel in the future!

This was my first visit to the Yizui Crown Hotel. I have stayed in other Kunshan hotels and have been unimpressed. The Yizui Crown was top-notch!

The hotel is a "typical" 5-Star hotel - on the order of a Hyatt or Westin here. Everything was first rate.

The breakfast in the "Western" restaurant was just adequate at best. Service was slow.

The location is also a plus as there are many restaurants within easy walking distance as well as shopping.

Overall, a very nice experience!
