“Lovely for a couple of days.”
Reviewed August 26, 2013

The hotel is in a lovely woodland setting. There is a small pool and a really comfortable bar/restaurant.Our room was up high and had a pretty view. The room was comfortable but dont expect 5 star remember this place is in the middle of no where. The staff are lovely and its good to hire mopeds to explore the area. The beach is at the bottom of the road and the crab market is about 1.5 miles along the road.Lots of wild monkeys to feed too !

Room Tip: Ask for a high room.

We stayed here for 3 nights. Our stay was beautiful.
We stayed in a sea view room, bit of a walk up the stairs but that was ok for us.

The location was perfect, very quiet, beautiful surroundings, great place to get into a good book and just chill out.

Staff where lovely, very friendly and helpful. Always smiling.

Breakfast wasn't anything special, get down early if you want HOT coffee.

We hired a couple of push bikes for the day which was wonderful, great way of getting around this little town.

If you love crab then you will love the crab market, if you don't, then like myself and partner we did struggle for food. Food at the hotel is nice but if your looking for something a bit more substantial there is a beautiful italian restaurant just a 5 minute walk away.

We would stay here again with out a doubt. Beautiful place.

I had to get away from the Phnom Penh so I headed to Kep, my favorite Cambodian coastal town. Looking online I found a plethora of choices convenient to the water and to the crab market, many of them with very positive marks. In the end it was a toss-up between SVR and one other place. Very happy that I chose SVR. The location is absolutely lovely, every inch of the landscaped grounds are brimming with flowers and fruit. My Khmer friend was astonished at the ripe fruit hanging everywhere, We had a sea view room, a little more expensive, but I loved being up high. It is a bit of a hike up the stairs, but the staff are quite happy to take your bags up. The televisions are on the small/old side, but since that is not what I came for it did not bother me. The rooms are spacious with a few quirks typical in an Asian hotel- not enough counter space for bags and clothes, not very convenient lighting for reading in bed. I sat out on the veranda and read and enjoyed the views and gardens and the quiet. The included breakfast was limited, but delicious. We ate one dinner which was also very good, though a bit more expensive than in town. Bring your mosquito spray since they are bad in the restaurant on your legs. It was a short, 5-8 minute tuk tuk ride to the crab market and restaurants, generally $2 each way. The staff in general were very sweet and attentive, and the desk clerks spoke very good English. They helped us with getting transportation to Rabbit Island. We missed the regular boat and so had to hire our own- $35. That was a bit steep, but considering that two of us would have been $18 and this way we could come and go at our own pace, not bad overall. It would have been easy to head down to the pier and join up with others to defray costs. We could have walked over the hill to the beach area in Kep had we so chosen, and the hikes up the mountain are also very close. The pool is central in the garden and so the sound does travel up to most of the rooms. Not a problem but if you want absolute quiet it could bother some. The wifi was a little weak up in our rooms, but I was able to take care of email and essentials. I would gladly return to Spring Valley Resort

Room Tip: The Sea View rooms are very nice.

We stayed here for 2 weeks! The stuff were extra friendly the breakfast buffet was excellent. I had crepe's and the FRESH bread every morning with orange juice although there was allot more! There were no french fries on the menu but i asked if they could do them and the next day they were added to the menu. The pool is very nice at a perfect temperature and the rooms were air-conditioned with great room service each morning! I would STRONGLY suggest staying at Spring Valley if visiting Kep!

We stayed for two nights. The pool area is great, It is not large but doesnt need to be. The staff are efficient and looked after us well albeit their english wasnt excellent but better than my Cambodian. The location of the resort is just a few minutes walk for the centre. The rooms are very clean and just what is needed as you dont really spend much time in them. The breakfast is nice and you can have as much as you like. The freshed cooked bread is fantastic. The advisor David made you feel very welcome and as if nothing was too much trouble. The restaurant was great and albeit the menu was a little limited the food was lovely. The happy hour on cocktail was good too. Really enjoyed our stay.

We had a week here over Khmer New Year and although the place was full, we din't feel like it
was too busy and the staff remained friendly and efficient . We were in 'D' block on the second floor which had a grand view over the pretty gardens and through to the sea. The room interior
was a bit dated but the wonderful 'advisor' David told us that the room decor will be upgraded
soon . The pool is great ,it is filled from the resorts own spring and they use very little chemicals.
The breakfast was fantastic : eggs any way, lovely crepes , fresh fruit ,juice, coffee and amazing home made bread . We ate dinner here a few times and found the food really nice and they even accommodated a special request for vegetarian food .The menu would benefit from some western dishes to cater for families with children. The atmosphere at the restaurant was
really nice with great music .Thanks Ritz and team for a great stay - we look forward to returning for another visit.

This place could be a little haven for those wanting a few days of relaxation. It's set in lush gardens at the foothills of the Kep National Park and seems perfect. In fact it's only the gardens, pool and restaurant that can be described as boutique.

The overall accommodation from the outside looks very impressive. But once inside, the interior doesn't match the initial welcome.
Asia's interpretation of boutique is rather loose. Neither the furniture, the bathroom or the cleaning of the rooms matched the rest of the hotel.
The furniture is dated but functional. The bathroom had the slowest electric shower ever. Again the bathroom looked disjointed from the look and feel of the hotel. And the rooms were not cleaned particularly well. Cobwebs everywhere in the room and bathroom. Furniture partially dusted.

Given Asia's low standard of hygiene, this may well be good enough in their eyes. I've found whatever star hotel you book, lower your expectations and then it's a nice surprise if they at least meet them. Don't get me wrong, I'm not expecting Western standards, but cleaning is cleaning in any country. Service I appreciate can differ.

There's a western couple 'advising' the owners on how to run the hotel. Whilst without them the service would also be poor, it's all at a very slow pace. It might be another year before they can stand on their own two feet.

Other areas they could improve on,
A few more beds around the pool.
Clean the plastic cushion that go on the sun bed.
Small tables to use around the sun beds.
Have someone walk round every so often and ask if we need a drink. The staff are sitting around a lot of the time.
Put a sun umbrella over the beautiful seats they have just behind the pool. It's in full sun and no one can use it!
Use the down time the staff have to improve their English. They were very friendly and you could see they would chat if they could.

The little touches of the welcome drink on arrival, the flowers placed in the beach towels and general helpfulness of the staff was wonderful and appreciated. It was a great place and has the potential to be fabulous and I'd love to know it achieved that.
