“Rustic and Good!”
Reviewed July 23, 2013

It's just a stone's throw from the wet market in Kep where fisherwomen catch their blue swimmer crabs. at the outermost seats, one can see the sea waves rushing in just next to the restaurant.

The food is all local with a mix of western thrown in for those not adventurous enough. Be sure to try the crabs which is a speciality there and they cook them in a variety of styles, the popular one being stir fried with the local Kampot peppercorns.

Beers and wines are incredibly cheap and there is a large variety to choose from.

“Worth the trip”
Reviewed July 23, 2013 via mobile

We travelled to Kep from Kampot especially for the crab and particularly combined with the local pepper. The trip down was an adventure as we awoke to a typical Asian downpour and it continued with varying degrees of exuberance throughout the day! The trip down was on a road under construction and in a tuk tuk was a bit rough. Saying that though this is a trip with a purpose that we will remember and recall fondly forever. Nothing like getting down and dirty with the red mud spray from the passing trucks and bouncing in and out of pot holes worthy of being called pot holes!
The restaurant was welcoming from the street (it looked dry!) and we were quickly seated at a table over the water but under cover. We ordered a fried green pepper crab and a chilli and lemon grass crab and they were both delicious. The weather changed direction while we were eating driving the rain straight into the restaurant and on to our table. The staff reacted promptly to close the shutters (which also eliminated the over the sea experience).
The only down sides would be that the staff hovered while we ate and this was a bit uncomfortable. It would also have been great to have a finger bowl and a wet wipe at the end as I do get in a bit of a mess eating crab - all part of the enjoyment really!
We felt the price was reasonable especially compared to prices in Melbourne. $10 for large serves of crab (three smallish crabs per serve) but enough for one person (we ordered two for two of us with rice). Drinks are incredibly cheap all over Cambodia and we ordered a cocktail each for about $2.50 US each).
Would we go there again? Absolutely and maybe even before we leave Kampot this trip!

“Squid with Ginger a dandy”
Reviewed July 21, 2013

Arrived pre-rush lunchtime, maybe 11AM, sat at a table against the sea wall. All 3 items ordered were excellent: squid with ginger, stingray with ginger, sour soup with prawns. Ordered a bottle of wine, the waitress knew exactly how to present it, which I have found to be a rarity in Cambodia. The staff were attentive but not intrusive. Other points of note: clean, uncluttered hand washing station with soap! Clean spacious restrooms! Go back again? Sure.. but also might be a good idea to try any of the other similar restaurants on the row, as Kimly has set the hi-bar standard and competition may be keen to follow suit- albeit at lower prices.

“Not that good”
Reviewed July 13, 2013

Too much pepper sauce, you cannot taste the crab, and fish was not fresh. Crabs were small, not that much to eat.
