My husband and I stayed at Raingsey for three nights in June and it was like paradise. The gardens are stunning, lush and green and with the most beautiful flowering plants around the pool and the bungalows.

The bungalows are delightful. The first night we stayed in a twin bungalow, the beds were king singles, with a TV and air conditioning, with a quirky but very adequate bathroom, and a lovely balcony to sit and enjoy the sea breeze.

The second and third nights we had a king bed bungalow with TV, air con, ceiling fan and a bar fridge, a huge bathroom and a balcony facing the pool. One bungalow wasn't better than the other, as they were both charming in their own way.

Buffet breakfast is served by the pool and there is a wide choice of fruits, cereal, breads, crepes, bacon and eggs, jams, honey etc. There is also an upstairs dining area overlooking the pool, which is great for a view of the sea, the spectacular sunsets and to catch the sea breeze. It is a wonderful place for a relaxing lunch or dinner.

The staff Chib and Kim looked after us really well and the rest of the team - groundsmen, housekeepers were always ready with a huge smile and a greeting. The owners Joey & Laurant made you feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble.

Raingsey is situated around 100 metres from the main road and is a short walk to the crab market, or a tuk tuk is always at the door. The location is perfect. A great place to stay - a little bit of paradise in Kep. Highly recommended.

We stayed two nights at Raingsey Bungalow in Kep. It's a small ressort with a pool and bungalow rooms. The rooms are furnished with design double beds and spacious bathrooms. In our room the fan didn't work but we preferred the A/C anyways.

The resort is located only five minutes walking distance to the crab market with excellent sea food. Here you can also find the sailing club where you can hire boats etc. as well as enjoy yourself in the very cool restaurant/bar. Kep center/beach is a two Dollar Tuk Tuk ride away.

Breakfast is served in the outdoor bar close to the pool. It's a choice of fruits, pancakes, bread and butter. You can also get ham and eggs, but you have to ask for this yourself as the staff doesn't approach you. Espresso, which is offered on the buffet, has to be paid extra. Usually breakfast is served from 7 am onwards, but on our second day (we were supposed to be picked up early) the breakfast wasn't ready until 7.40 am.

The hotel also rents out bikes for 6 dollars a day, though they have only two. The bikes were quite good but lacked air in the tyres. There was no air pump at the resort, so we took the bikes like. Generally I think that if you pay rent, the bikes should be in better shape.

The staff is friendly, but not many speak English and it seems that they probably lack some practice yet:The night before we left we wanted to pay our bill which wasn't possible because the PC didn't work. The guy from the desk wanted to prepare the bill for the next morning, but as we asked for this no bill was prepared.

Generally I think the resort has potential but currently it gets only three points from me.

We stayed in what was termed a King Double room. The room was well presented with concrete furniture (bed, hanging space, ledge), was very clean with a good sized bathroom and a lovely verandah. The bed was a king, firm but comfortable. A flat screen TV and a good AC finished the room. There is no safe or fridge in the room however, the new owner hopes to rectify this shortly.

Breakfast was a simple affair with lovely fresh fruit, endless tea or coffee, a choice of juices and eggs cooked how you like them! The restaurant menu here is good and food for lunch or dinner was very nice. Prices are standard.

It is only a short walk to the crab market and restaurant area but single travellers should note the lane way back to the resort is unlit. Also, this resort only takes cash and there is currently no ATM in Kep.

The pool area is the highlight of the resort. It is quiet, peaceful and well stocked with deck chairs and a lovely hut to relax in. Staff are friendly and helpful and try their best to assist. Overall an excellent spot to stay!

If you find yourself in Kep, you cannot fault staying at Raingsey. The new owner, Joey, has a lot of drive to turn the place around and has done quite well, she is personable, hospitable and aims to please. Since the hotel only excepts cash, and there are no ATMs in Kep, she allowed us to pay part of our bill in Singapore dollars which was a HUGE help. The place is well on its way to getting even better with training new staff and helping guests to arrange transport, which is still a work in progress. The grounds and bungalows are modern and nice, and the vicinity to the entrance of the national park is ideal. Because there is not much to do in Kep, or so it seems, it would be a great idea to provide guests with more travel information and resources. I am not one to really complain about these things, but it sticks out in my mind that at breakfast one morning I kept smelling something foul, like garbage. The smell was overwhelming. The next day I looked back at where I was sitting and there was a rather large dead and decaying lizard which was causing the smell. This can happen anywhere and it is an honest oversight, but perhaps cleanliness of the dining area can be focused on as well.
