i did not stay in the hotel but went to the restaurant 3 times, excellent food, maybe pricier than most in kampot but really is worth it. great desserts including sorbets and apple pie, very nice salads and a very tasty loc lac, would definitely recommend.

Apparently it had been raining steadily for more than a week in Kampot before we arrived towards the end of July and the town looked a bit grim. A quick walk around town confirmed that Rikititavi looked the most welcoming, with its twinkly lights outside and beautiful open sided restaurant/bar overlooking the river and the mountains in the distance. We stayed here with our 3 teenagers for 3 nights. The family room is only big enough for 4 people, so we booked an extra double room. Both rooms were very comfortable and beautifully designed. The staff was really friendly, the food delicious (best we had in Cambodia) and the cocktails blow your head off and ensure a good nights sleep.

As well as providing a great place to sleep and eat, the staff was helpful with organising bus tickets, advising what to see and hooking us up with the right people. For $25 we went on a countryside tour by tuktuk with one of their drivers, Chk; salt fields, pepper farm, caves and Kep, as well as taking in the beautiful scenery. Despite the rain we had a great day. The road between Kampot and Kep was horrendous; huge holes and flooded to the point of being submerged in places. Amazingly, Chk and his tuktuk managed it all. It took about 1.5 hours but I would still recommend doing this journey by tuktuk instead of taxi; it's good fun, you can suck up the atmosphere easier, the drivers can stop anywhere and will also tell you about the places. The following day was really sunny so we headed back to Kep again with Chk and went to the beach, Kep national park and, for the second time, ate delicious crab in Kampot pepper at Kymly's. That evening, for $5pp, one of the Rikititavi staff got his cousin to take us on a private boat trip from the hotel up the river to see the fireflies. Word of warning: the boat drivers make sure you get your moneysworth by driving the boat right into the bushes so you can get up close and personal with the fireflies. Poor things. Can't imagine this being very sustainable.
If you want to stay in a small place with character in a prime location in town with good food, then Rikititavi is a good choice. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Family room is lovely, but not big enough for a family of 5 unless one child (under 1.40m) can sleep...

Spent 4 days at Rikitikitavi before heading off to Kep, we enjoyed our stay so much we stayed another 2 days before heading to Phnom Penh. All the staff are extremely friendly and efficient. The rooms are lovely and the whole place is really well designed. They arranged onwards bus tickets for us and organised a river trip with 'Bart the Boatman' ......A unique and memorable experience and a 'must do'.
Probably the best hotel we have stayed in during our 4 weeks in Cambodia.

Our first three nights in Cambodia were at this location and it was a great introduction.

Hotel is clean and fully stocked with both amenities and information about surrounding area. The bar upstairs is also a great spot with views out onto the river and good food. Watch out for the two for one cocktails!

We stayed in Rikitavi for 3 nights and were very sad to leave as this is the best hotel that my husband and i have ever stayed in on holiday. The room was beautifully decorated and full of character as well as spotlessly clean. The staff were friendly and helpful and the service was excellent. They helped us to organise a great tuk tuk tour of the area. The food was delicious with a great choice for breakfast, a great evening menu and lovely cocktails. We had dinner there on all 3 nights (we don't usually do that) because the food was so good. Try the saraman and the amok.

Rikitikitavi was the best hotel we stayed in during our trip around the South coast of Cambodia. The staff were the friendliest, the beds were the comfiest, the cocktails were the strongest, the food was the deliciousest [should be a word] and the management*, Ant and Andrea, were the most welcoming and helpful.

After staying for a few days we moved on to Kep and stayed in a relatively expensive luxury resort hotel which lacked all of the soul, vitality, warmth and hospitality that we had left behind in Kampot. We missed Rikitikitavi almost as soon as we left it.

If you choose to stay at Rikitikitavi I would be shocked, horrified and ultimately deeply puzzled if it did not turn out to be the best and most enjoyable stay of your holiday.

* Temporary management apparently, but they were doing a fantastic job.

Room Tip: The room we stayed in did not have a mosquito net, I'm not sure if any of the others do either...
