We went to the rapids with a local guide/tuk tuk driver Lucky. He made the experience a really interesting one so try to get him if you can. It's a fantastic place, with hammocks by the river and hardly anyone else there.

A nice place to stop if cycling along the road to the zoo which is nearby. The rapids are about 300 metres further north where there are numerous food and drink stalls. It's pretty much the last stop as further on still the road comes to an end at the power station. The rapids are at full flow when they open the gates at the dam but it can happen at any time as it depends on the level of the water in the dam and if it is dry season or wet season. Despite the almost lack of rapids it's still a nice place to go for a paddle or lie in a hammock (I paid 2000 riel).

we come from Canada so we have high expectations when it come to the outdoors but visiting the rapids was a nice way to spend an hour or so and have a picnic. It was really nice to see the locals enjoying the river.

At the end of the road to Teuk chhou, there are some rapids.
Went there, they charged me a dollar because I'm a foreigner and nothing....just rocks and water...
Came back direction Kampot and stopped at the Zoo.
Its been recently taken over by an NGO and they doing an incredible job.
Not cheap but at least I know where the money is going to.
Oh,if you go to the Zoo take the 1/2 day formule

Teuk Chou is an awesome spot... Saly when last there the water level was down to a mere trickle, when enquiring why the water level was so low I was told by the locals it was because of the dam built by the Chinese just upstream. So for a while we splashed around in the mud when suddenly a group of kids came running along the river shouting get out the water. Confused, we got out to be told the Chinese were going to let a little more water out so people could swim. So 10 minutes later the water level rose considerably and we thought this was quite a nice gesture. Only was we were in the water did we notice the rather disgusting film of oil floating on the top of the water. So covered in oil we headed back to town rather disappointed in our roll in the mud and oil bath. Dear China, stop ruining everything nice!!
