This one's free, and it's still an impressive building, so high and out of place. When it's foggy, it's even very eerie. So how can this be THAT bad?? In Cambodia the first thing that you want to do is get rid of organized tours and minivans. It's 90% crap. They cram vans full of people, they are too late, too expensive, too bad of an experience. Rent a scooter and do everything yourself, that way you'll lose 75% of the stress immediately. The ride up the mountain is simply put one of the most fun things to do in Kampot, maybe even in Cambodia. So you have an amazing ride up the mountain, visit the hill station for 10 mins, visit the church for 10 mins, laugh your @ss off with the stupid casino for an hour, and have an enjoyable descent back to Kampot... Good stuff!

My wife and I actually kind of enjoyed our tour of Bokor. But the "national park" has been granted on a 99 year lease to some well connected folks who have already built a big hotel and casino and intend to "develop" the place with a golf course and thousands of vacation homes. The Cambodian government really is just shameless when it comes to selling out the national patrimony.

Bokor is a national park, but they have virtually torn the top off the mountain to build a casino and hotel comples. You need a motorbike up the nice new road into the clouds (take a raincoat and jumper, temperatur drops like a stone. The hillstation is hard to find, not a lot left but some fantastic waterfalls and scenery. Get a guide or a good local map.

It is worth the trip just to see the "Great Chinese Casino" at the top. We went inside for a look in the gaming room and there would have been 25 casino workers at the tables with not a single player. Not far from the casino is the Buddhist Temple where we spent half an hour talking to some young monks who were also visiting. We are now Facebook friends :-). Be sure to get there before the rest of the development is done as there are condominiums within 100 mts of the temple now. All in all well worth the trip up.

if you're a natyre lover, a day trip to bokor mountain is all you need. best to go up on a bike so you can stop anywhere along the way up.

it gets cooler and at some point, the clouds might come in and cover certain parts of the mountain.

its a really beautiful view from up there and bring along a picnic basket if you want to.

just be careful, you might run into the resident bunny while having a sandwich.
