“Peaceful and Clean”
Reviewed March 18, 2013

Just had four nights at the Mea Culpa. Ben and hIs staff provide a great sta and are ready to help with any questions or book any transport or tours. The location is a bit out of the way, but the free bikes make it easy to get around. The rooms are spacious and clean with tv and DVD, which was a real Bonus, decent bathroom and some nice decorations. The fresh mango from the trees for breakfast was lovely. Hope to be back one day

Beautiful guesthouse in a quiet corner of town, yet only five minutes walk to the bulk of restaurants. The rooms are spotless and the showers are good. Was also nice staying in a place with great wifi, really easy to Skype home. The breakfasts are excellent, although not included in the price, but the homemade bread is really tasty. Didn't have dinner here but the pizzas looked really good. The free tea and proper coffee was an nice touch.

My partner and I stayed here for two nights recently. The room was sizeable and clean with good amenities including free wifi, free tea and coffee, free use of dvds from the guesthouse collection and use of their books. We tried the pizza on the second night which was delicious and the milk shakes were also very nice. The best part of the stay was the customer service, it was my partners birthday and through emailing the hotel manager Ben they provided champagne and even managed to get a local bakery to provide a chocolate brownie birthday cake which was personalised. The cake was delivered by the owner to a nearby restaurant for the surprise dessert, great service. Generally service was great with a smile, we also arranged tours and connections through the guesthouse which was good. Overall great stay.

We stayed at Mea Culpa for two nights recently. Large very clean rooms and bathroom, very comfortable. It is about a 10 minute walk into the central area but at the $25 per night we paid excellent value. They do provide breakfast but this is an extra cost and we decided it was better to have breakfast there for the small amount they charged than to go up the street looking for breakfast. The staff are friendly and helpful and the hotel is in a quiet area. They also do a very good Pizza in the evening.

We stayed at Mea Culpa for 3 glorious nights in December. The hotel is about a 3 minute walk from Kampot central. It is quiet, clean and a haven.

Nothing is too much for Ben (the owner) and all staff. The staff speak excellent English. We were in a ground floor room – absolutely lovely. The room has aircon, a ceiling fan and a safe. The bathroom ensuite is large and well appointed. The room is cleaned every day and the towels refreshed. Everything is spotlessly clean.

A lovely touch is the free coffee and tea available all the time on the first floor landing. Free WiFi is also available. They provide free bicycles to ride around at your leisure. We also used the facilities to catch up on our washing. Everything is provided with a smile!

The menu is excellent. They only use purified water and all the food is cleaned in purified water. What a joy to eat salad, have ice and drink water without a worry. The breakfasts are delicious and very reasonably priced. A specially is the homemade bread they make every day in their pizza oven – NOT TO BE MISSED. Their salads are great. All the prices are reasonable.

We also had dinner at Mea culpa. You have the choice of magnificent thin based homemade Pizza made in a Pizza oven onsite or traditional Cambodian or western food. The front desk is very helpful they arranged for a tuck-tuck to take us out touring to the caves, secret lake, pepper farm and Kep. They also arranged for a Taxi to take us to Sihanoukville when we left.

Treat yourself and stay and eat here.

Room Tip: We liked the ground floor room. No steps.

Nice friendly staff, helpful in arranging bus etc. Nicely decorated, very clean room and clean bathroom with decent shower. Free drinking water supply, aircon, tv, dvd player, in-room safe is handy. The location was at the far end of the river promenade, about a 10min walk into central town area, a little bit of a pain in the hot sun, but nice and quiet at night. Probably should have breakfast included for the price. Restaurant looked good, but a bit overpriced (eg small baguette $2, but less than $0.40 everywhere else in town)

Run by a wonderful Irishman, Ben and with friendly, helpful staff this was an excellent place to stay. The food is good, the rooms very comfortable and Ben was very helpful in arranging taxis and buses. As others have written, it's very quiet and I would certainly stay there again if I returned to Kampot, which is sitself a smashing little town. 5 stars.
