If you like doing nothing much on a great river about 15 minutes boat ride or 15 very very bumpy minutes tuk tuk from Kampot, or, if you like bike riding, canoing, caving etc, if you like really friendly people and great food, including really good vegetarian, then you'll love it. We do. It's a very long bus ride from Phnom Penh though. We caught the Sorya (sp?) via Kep as the others were booked out. Advertised as taking 3and ahalf, took 5. Take a hand held fan and lots of water and snacks. Slow travel down here though, wonderful!

Room Tip: We love the main house, atmospheric and dont mind sharing a bathroom. The screens are great for a co...

A large plot on the river contains several houses in different states of repair with according common areas, which are also in different states of cleanliness, we imagine a messy would feel quite comfortable. It all looks quite unprofessional und amateurishly hacked together. Though as negative as this sounds (and is, depending on your point of view) it also gives the place the charm of an old farm house, living with a colonial french family. It is a great place for children to toll in the huge garden and to swim in the river.

Wholly unprofessional and without charm is the management, which did not mention upon arrival that the booked room was taken as they had simply overbooked (you can choose explicitly which room you book, whether it has a balcony or not and private or shared bathroom with the number of parties sharing the bathroom). They put us in an extra room, which is not included in the list of regularly booked rooms, without saying a word. When we had checked our reservation and found that the room did not match the description of the booked one, we approached them with this discrepancy and only then did they offer an explanation and an adjusted rate, though no excuse.

The room (in House B) are separated from the hall by window screens only (no glass, just the mosquito screen) and thus every sound from all rooms, including the bathroom, is heard in all other rooms ... nothing if you want a nights sleep or cuddly couples (who mind letting everybody listen). The mattress was horridly old, at least the sheets were clean and thus the cleanest thing on the property.

As the property is a ten minute tuk-tuk ride outside of Kampot, going out to dinner isn’t exactly a real choice (unless you are in town already). The price for a trip to town offered by the reception is 7 US$, though a tuk-tuk-driver is very happy to accept 3 US$ one way if hired independently. The food offered by the restaurant (daily changing three or four course menu) is ok, not great and not very cambodian.

Conclusion: Nice place for families with smaller kids, nothing for couples, mediocre restaurant, far from town with a rip-off ride to town and passively dishonest management. There have got to be better places!

Room Tip: The Bungalows look nice, but House B is a catastrophe.

Les Manguiers turned out to be one of our favourite places (so far) during our 4 month trip to SE Asia. It's located outside Kampot center (which is a pretty ugly city center) right by the river with Bokor Mtn on the other side. The rooms are beautiful, the garden is lovely (with hammocks, restaurant-tables over the river) and rice fields on the other side. We chose the 18 dollar room with a huge balcony overlooking the river. The food was good and the breakfast different from the traditional egg and toast- breakfast. You get a huge baguette with different home made jams, peanut butter, nutella and even some hard cheese! Add fruit bowl, orange juice and great coffee and you'll surely be satisfied.

If you go in to Kampot at night, be sure to arrange tuk tuk back in advance (!) and tell the people who work there when you'll be back so you don't get locked out (as we did). Apart from that we had a GREAT time at Les Manguiers and would surely return.

This is a lovely compound of simple but clean bugalows located directly on an inlet of salt water. The views and ambiance were lovely. Better yet were the meals we were served - in total I think we had 21 meals there they and almost all were just fantastic. The food is served in open air 'gazebos' down by the sea. I swam several times and kayaked up and down the sea inlet. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. I'd come back again without hesitation.

Thank god I didn't listen to the last guy to review this hotel!!! Les Manguiers is the best place I have staying in Asia so far. Sure it is rustic, sure there are dogs that bark, kids having fun and fishing boats, but you're in the country side of Cambodia and that is the point isn't it?? Otherwise why are you in Kampot??

After a bumpy ride to the Guest House and waving to 100's of incredibly friendly and enthusiastic kids we were greeted by very friendly staff who were exceptionally helpful to ensure we enjoyed our stay. We ended up staying one night in room B3 which is my favourite room. A great balcony where you can watch the sun set at night and look out over the river during the day. There was a lovely breeze at night which kept the room cool. The second night we stayed in one of the bungalows next to the river. It was very peaceful and roomy.

The food was great and once you asked how the meals worked it turned out to be economical and exciting as there was always a great spread of different dishes to eat. There is always more food than you can eat too!! I ended up coming back briefly by myself and the staff invited me to eat with them as opposed to being alone. They are very sweet and interested in tell you about their lives and culture.

There are bikes to ride, kayaks to paddle and a great river to swim in. There is also internet and Wifi. Go on the boat ride at night and see the fireflies as there are hundreds of them in the trees. All you need to do is ask the staff what there is to do and they will tell you. They can organize tours, buses, transport etc for you.

I can't say enough good things about this place, it really is worth coming and staying here. i'll definitely being coming back.
