WOW! What are some of these reviewers smoking? I just stayed at the Avan Marak Tsapatagh and experienced both the hotel and their restaurant. No question the property is away from the masses on Lake Sevan but indeed overlooks the lake. Tranquility is high as is extreme quiet with this property. A lovely pool. Sweeping view of Lake Sevan. An area that is apparently much warmer than anywhere else on the lake. Well appointed. A gem away from the rush of crazy crowds. A place to play with the stars. The sky is pure, clear and the stars are magnificant. The restaurant serves a quality like nothing on the lake. Fabulous BBQ fish, pretty darn good BBQ pork and a good variety of both traditional and not so traditional foods. The dining room is spectacular in design and could be right out of a King Arthur Novel. Too me it seems some reviews are pointed and purposely negative or the writers were simply out of their environment and not in tune with the nature of this property. It is a retreat in a small village far from crowds and yet carries a high standard where it must be hard to get and keep trained staff to maintain a standard such as theirs. Tufenkian brings style to countryside hotels that no one else in Armenia can touch. I have traveled Armenia more than once and have visited most corners of the country. Alway the Tufenkian touch has been good. Sure. Everyone has their bad days but overall if you picked your location carefully the experience seems to match. If you picked wrong then perhaps you should not have been there. I give this one a thumbs up.

I was supremely disappointed with quality of meals served and appalled with prices. This place charged outrageous amount of money for a few microscopic, cardboard-tasting pieces of old bones with burned fat. That masterpiece was ambitiously named barbeque; it was inedible, really. We called management and complained. And now get this: manager was in her office in another city, Erevan, more than 100 miles away! And yet, she argued about quality of food over the phone without actually seeing it. Any rock-bottom fast-food joint in my country would be a great improvement over this restaurant. I travelled a lot across Armenia; visiting this place was the only bad experience. What a shame!

We visited this place for a lunch while driving all around lake Sevan. So I can tell only about the restaurant of the hotel.
We were served in a very ordinary way (nothing distinguishing) and the food was not tasty at all even though we were very hungry after 3 hour driving from Yerevan and getting there at 3 PM. At the end we were charged about 3 times more than we would at any other comparable place for a much tastier food.
Hopefully Tufenkian (a well-standing company in Armenia) will change how things are done here.

In any sensible location this would be a really enjoyable place to stay. However, as other reviewers have observed, it is isolated in a not particularly scenic area near Lake Sevan.
Nevertheless there's lots of good news. Best of all the bedrooms are 5 star and beautifully designed. They are modern and full of character with an interesting use of stone, metal and wood. The furnishings, bed and bathroom were all of high quality. Satellite tv, hairdrier, soap, shampoo were all provided.
The pool area is pleasant and tranquil with a jacuzzi, sunloungers and umbrellas but the pool water was too cold to do more than dip a toe in, even in the height of summer.
The restaurant is strangely a 5 minute walk from the hotel but the dinner and breakfast were both very good.
The worst aspect is that the 'beach' at the lake is an unpleasant 10 minute walk through scrub and numerous midges. The beach itself was a tiny space (maybe 12 square metres) of gravel and grey mud.
Waste of a good hotel in a pointless location.
