“LOVED, not liked our time at Kikoti!”
Reviewed April 5, 2013

We absolutely loved our 2 nights at Kikoti with Danny & Alice. It is worth mentioning here that we stayed at 5 different lodges in TZ and Danny and Alice are the only management team that we met, they made us feel like Friends from the time we entered the camp and that really carried through to all the staff. They were very active in that community and made sure all of our desires were taken care of. We took our family to TZ so our 11 & 13 year olds were along with us and we did a lot of extra things at Kikoti that were not offered at other lodges and that is probably what made it extra special to us. A night drive, sunset hike to the rock and spear and archery lessons with the Maasai were just some of the extra things we took advantage of and all were unforgettable. The facility is beautiful from the grounds, to the rooms, dinning and lounge areas all were kept up very well and looked spectacular. They have even put in internet which was a nice touch as well. My only knock was the box lunch was lacking compared to other that we received on our trip, but I consider that a very minor issue and would not stop me from highly recommending a stop at Kikoti. Probably worth mentioning that it is only 10-12 minutes to the park gate there as well so you are in and out of the park super quick each day which only adds to the experience. All and all if we ever go back to TZ you can bet that KiKoti will be a place we stay again

We spent two nights at Kikoti as we explored the Tarangire national park. From the moment we arrived Danny and his team made us feel very welcome. It is hard to think that you are in fact staying under canvas as the accommodation is such luxury. The wood fired water heating worked a treat and the bed was very comfortable. The food was wonderful and washed down with Safari beer! I would definitely recommend Kikoti to anyone exploring Tarangire.

This lodge sumed up a safari lodge experience for us, the hosts were welcoming, the rooms excellent, location & view very good, restaurant & bar service good. The only negative was the food at dinner had limited choice & meat over cooked for our liking, but still tasty. Breakfast & lunch boxes excellent. Saw more elephant in tarangirie than I could ever of imagined it was incredible.
The Masaai lighting the fire was a great touch & memorable part of our safari trip.

The staff were very welcoming, friendly and gracious. It was a new experience for us and enjoyable. The food was ok but not great, there seemed to be a pattern of overcooking meats but maybe that is a good thing. It was fun to be escorted to the elevated tent after dinner because of the anticipation of some animal lunging out of the bushes.

Lovely friendly welcome. Rooms were great - lots of space; huge, comfortable bed; and his'n'hers sinks a nice touch. Amazing views over Tarangire as dawn broke - armed with morning coffee brought by the staff. And will remember sitting by the big fire, G&T in hand, looking at the stars for a long time. Mess tent had everything one could need - food decent and good (though bit pricey...) booze selection. Very happy memories from our two nights.

We stayed at Kikoti toward the beginning of our two-week northern Tanzania safari. It was our first tented camp experience. After staying at Kikoti, we did stay at more luxurious tented camps in the Serengeti. Nevertheless, we had a lovely time at Kikoti. The furnishings are not as fancy as some of the others, but there is something so perfect about sleeping in the fresh African air, knowing that you are surrounded by wildlife. Service was good and so was the food. No complaints. Slept great!

The other reviewers who call out just how excellent this place is are spot on. The setting, the accommodations, and the staff were all just great. It's well run, friendly, organized...they really go the extra mile, and the overall feel for the place is captured in how the staff seem to all really enjoy their jobs. Had almost a family run feel to it - they all work together to make it a great experience. Campfire each night, and Masai did a dance demo which was very cool. We did the night excursion which was a blast - we didn't get too lucky on seeing anything big, but careening off through the bush in the middle of the night chasing eyes in the night was just plain fun. We also did their guided walk up to the rocks where there is a great view and a slew of baboons hanging out. It was well worth it - fabulous sunset over Taranquire, and we also got to see our first buffalo on the way up.

Taranquire is worth putting on your itinerary - more elephants than we saw anywhere else. Kikoti Camp is on the far side of it - very quiet, view of the lake in the distance from the raised tents which were really nice...much nicer than we had expected them to be.

There were three of us (45+ yrs old, friends) on our trip and we all agreed that of the five places we stayed in Tanzania on safari and in Zanzibar, Kikoti Tented Camp wins the prize for "best accommodation". We can't take credit for finding it though...we booked through Infinite Safari Adventures, which btw, is a great company to go with if you are looking for a "middle of the road" trip that is not bargain basement roughing it student style, nor high end over the top expensive/posh. Kikoti was a good example of that - great place, great experience, reasonable price.

In the interest of balance, there was one slight negative to Kikoti - prices on drinks were somewhat high. Hmmmmm...or perhaps we just drank too much? Have fun!
