I thought about giving this place 4 stars only because it wasn't our favorite of our safari but I decided that wasn't fair. There was some really stiff competition for first place but I could find absolutely nothing here that wasn't just great. The tent was very nice, complete with toilet, sink and shower. The bed was comfortable, the service was excellent and the lounge and dinning room were beautiful and the food was good. There is a nice pool and the patio has stunning views of the park complete with animals. After having said all of that, it wasn't our favorite place of our 8 day safari with Good Earth Safaris but that's just because the whole trip was over the top awesome!

We stayed here for two nights at the start of our safari trip and it was my first experience of Africa. The camp is located at the entrance to the park and is situated above a bend in the Tarangire River which, as others have said, gives you the most amazing views of elephants, giraffes, zebra, impala, baboons and other animals constantly wandering in and out of trees and coming to drink. Sitting on the terrace was just like watching a constantly changing wildlife film. The bar and restaurant are almost open air, the food is good and there is free WiFi as well as a constant supply of free hot drinks on a help yourself basis. The tents are quite big and have proper toilet and showers - another first for me! The only downside was that, although there were 3 couples in our group, all the beds were singles and were not particularly comfortable.
Having said that, the staff were extremely friendly, the pool was wonderful after a day of travelling, the view could not be matched by the other 3 places we visited on safari, and going to sleep listening to animals scuffling around outside the tent was an incredible experience. It is a family run camp and because of that there is a lovely casual, warm atmosphere
Thank you to Annette and her family for a good start to our trip.

Hello alika32,
Thank you for your review. Happy you enjoyed your stay with all those First Experiences! = )
Would you remember which rooms you occupied? Sorry your sleep comfort wasn't 5 star!
We do aim for that, even with all the night noises! We do try to give guests double tents when requested. Not sure who you booked with but we could let them know to make requests next time around.

I hope the remainder of your safari was wonderful to have you coming back for more.

Luckily, it was where we had three nights booked. Remember to have enough bottled water for drinking during the night as you can't leave your room or tent once the lights are out. The first night was in one of five bungalows and the last two nights were in a tent. The lodge would only accept our booking if we would send an email agreeing to move to the tent as a previous guest had refused to move from the bungalow. Although there is electricity in the bungalow (and so can charge up batteries etc), we loved our tent. We had tent 22, on the end of the row directly overlooking the river, and we had no neighbours on the end side so we left the curtains opened to watch the waterbuck and Dik Dik come close by in the early morning. The food was very good quality and tasty. The view outstanding. The staff, particularly the ladies serving in the dining room were lovely with a gorgeous genuine smile.

Fantastic /Awesome view of the park from the tents , dinning and relaxation area . Very friendly staff . Good food , too .
The tent has an opening between it and the bathroom area making it east for tsetse flies ,mosquitoes , snakes , monkeys etc to enter your tent . I did make this clear to the reception staff but was told that nothing had happened so far.....true or not it is an accident waiting to happen !!!
At night you are able to hear various animal sounds ...we heard elephts , male gazelle ,hyaenas etc during the night .
You need to charge all types of batteries (mobile phone , camera) at the bar and can even leave your stuff overnight if necessary .
Box lunches are horrible absolutely terrible....the worst I have had !!! Better to come back and have lunch .

Dear Eternal S

Thank you for your review! Happy you enjoyed the location, staff and food :)
We are in the process of adding shelving to the tents which will block the entrace way of animals and other creatures into the bathroom area. Animals dont have any reason to enter tents unless there is food inside, which we ask guest not to bring (we also have signs saying 'No food beyond this point').
Regarding the lunch boxes, we are constantly trying to improve them, and we've had some good compliments recently. Can you please let us know what needed improving in yours?
We will appreciate further feedback.
Thank you again for your review, every suggestion & compliment helps!
Karibu tena/Welcome again!

Kind regards,
Sophia S.

Sundowners on the terrace were the perfect end to day one of our safari. The view here absolutely could not be better. The service was excellent and we were extremely surprised as to how inexpensive the drinks were. We stayed in one of the permanent tents and it had everything we needed, nothing extravagant but comfortable and clean. I would definitely stay here again.

We stayed at this lodge for 3 nights in August at the beginning of a Safari around Tanzania & Kenya. We had stayed here before & loved it. Last time we stayed in a Safari Tent and this time we stayed in one of the Chalets. The Chalet was larger and had 3 single beds in the bedroom & a large bathroom running along the rear with a positively huge shower area. We preferred the Tent, it felt more like an experience & to a certain extent there was nothing special about the Chalets other than the fact that there is a power point in them where you can charge up your batteries. The Tents have no power points so you have to use the charging station at the bar. There are a big number of power boards with plugs in them for virtually everywhere and also adaptor plugs at the bar. The barman watches over this area so your precious iPhone will be safe charging here. There is free Wi Fi here but it's speed is very variable depending on how many people are using it. We found it to be much better early in the morning. The location of the lodge just inside the park is very convenient for going on game drives. But the crowning glory is the open air restaurant & bar area on the ridge looking down to the bend in the Tarangire river. There is a large terrace outside where you can sit early in the evening & enjoy their happy hour. We would get a glass of the excellent Chenin Blanc house wine and some home made Nachos you could help yourself to with a very tasty salsa dip. You could sit there watching the Elephants leaving the river for the night and the Buffalo arriving for a drink and whatever else was down there. One morning we noticed security guards lining the pathway to the restaurant & Elephants had walked up the steep hill right to this Terrace and were grazing on the trees and grasses there. We had to go back to our room briefly before going out on Safari & there were 3 huge Elephants on the pathway just outside the room. We waited with caution some distance away for them to walk away. The lodge is not an expensive place to stay at and the quality of food is simply stunning and easily betters some lodges which are considerably more expensive. All meals are buffet style and there are several tasty choices available. The food is so good there wasn't a meal that we didn't return to the buffet for seconds. Perhaps not good for someone that is watching their weight. We stayed at 6 other lodges in Tanzania, some much more expensive but this lodge had by far the highest culinary standards. If you were in Tanzania for only a short time & wanted a Safari experience without having to go to the Serengeti I would highly recommend this lodge & this park. The Accommodation is not upmarket, rather comfortable and clean with flush toilets & hot showers. If we are back in Tanzania again we will certainly return for a third time.

Room Tip: We like the tents best

The best thing at the Tarangire lodge is the fantastic view you have from the terrasse just in front of the restaurant: you sit there with a beer and you enjoy the sunset on the savana, it's like an open air cinema !
Tents are ok, beds comfortable, you are really in the wilderness so during the night is easy to be woken up by the sounds of animals that are visiting the camp.
Breakfast is good and copious, dinners are also good. Lunch box is poor, but you;ll experience the same everywhere else.

Can you tell us more about your unsatisfactory lunch box?
Happy for suggestions. We are in the process of putting chicken and vegetarian pies in there.
Hope those will be enjoyed.
