“Highlight of Africa!”
Reviewed August 10, 2013

My family recently returned from two weeks in Tanzania and Zanzibar. Taringere Safari Lodge was the highlight. You begin with a (literally) breathtaking view of the valley. The animals are amazing -- we saw literally hundreds of elephant families no more than 10 yards away. Also zebra and wildebeest, warthogs, dikdiks, waterbucks, birds, impala, incredible variety -- surpassing, even our time at the Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti. The tents are lovely (and you can hear the animals at night). More of the beautiful Baobab trees than anywhere else on our trip. The food -- a generous, healthy, home-cooked buffet -- is awesome. "Sundowners" with savories will be a new family tradition for us. We also did the morning bushwalk and night drives which were great fun. And the Patuliva massages -- open air with more great views -- were awesome after a day of safari. Thank you to our wonderful hosts, the Simonson's, for a truly, unforgettable trip. By the way, this family also has a beach accommodation south of Pangani which is also wonderful. Top marks. Best vacation ever.

Room Tip: The tents are great. Incredible views and lots of 'up close' animal encounters.

Hello Tim N

Thank you so much for your 5 star review!! Much appreciated! Great that you got to enjoy the whole experience, with animals by your tent, sundowners, and massages :)
Weve had lots of Lion sightings in the valley over the last few days & the resident Elephant family in camp!! All stuff to look forward to on your next visit! :)
Again, thank you for your review!

What a view! Perched on the edge of a cliff with miles-long views of the park and animals, with the river off to one side. You must see it to believe it.

In the middle of nowhere, they have wifi AND a pool!

Main hall was beautiful and comfortable. Food was very good, done buffet style. Nothing I wouldn't eat at home.

Rooms were nice, but be wary that you can hear your neighbors well. Best to be quiet if frisky.
Who'd think that you could have a flushing toilet and a nice shower out here? But you can!

Room Tip: Higher numbers are further from the main hall, around the corner a bit. The view is different. Sti...

I loved this property. It is well laid out so each cabin/tent has a view over the ridge. I stayed in the cabin accommodation and it was extremely comfortable. Cabins had ample room with a simple but stylish bathroom. The property also has a pool and WiFi was available. They also were using solar panels for hot water which is nice to see.

Our package was all inclusive, and I enjoyed the meals that were available. Drink prices were OK with a reasonable variety on offer.

We spent one wonderful night here in July and wished we could have stayed longer. Our tented room was snug and comfortable. Along with the rest of the guests, we spent most of the evening entranced by the view out over the park before enjoying a delicious buffet meal. The staff were helpful and welcoming. My non-profit company board members, including myself, stayed at the lodge at the end of July 2013. As soon as we arrived, the welcoming staff brought us some amazing fruit drinks, and advised us that we would be meeting the manager, Annette. Turns our the Tarangire Safari Lodge is manager-owned and Annette and her husband are the owners of this magnificent lodge! The main building is beautiful and boasts leather couches clustered into groups, the dinning are, a pool, a small shop, and one of the most magnificent views in all of Tanzania. I was in awe of the view, and how close all types of animals would get to the lodge. You almost don't have to go on safari if you stay here! At the lodge viewing deck, we say, zebra, elephant, waterbuck, dikdik, impala, giraffe, vervet monkey, mongoose, and you could hear the lions roaring all night!

The tents were very comfortable and sported two twin beds, a desk, luggage stand, and a separate bathroom with shower. Because we had a longer stay at the lodge than most customers, the staff also moved a wooden shelf/closet into our room so that we didn't have to live out of our suitcases. There was open bar and a buffet dinner which was more of less very good (not everyone eats everything, but everyone can find something good to eat!).

Room Tip: I would recommend getting the closest room to the main lodge building as you might be lucky enough t...

We stayed at the Tarangire Safari Lodge for one night on our first night of safari. We had just finished an 8 day climb on Kilimanjaro, so we didn't have high expectations, we just wanted a place with a nice bed. When we pulled up to the lodge I was in shock. The main building is absolutely gorgeous with amazing views. We were informed by the front desk that it was happy hour, and that they were serving beer and wine with free snacks on the veranda, so we rushed to put our bags in our room and took advantage of that!

After sitting on the veranda for a bit enjoying our drinks and the view of the river, we went in for dinner - which was also great. They served soup first, and the rest of the meal was a buffet. All of the food that I tried was very good.

We stayed in the tents here, but there are also cabins on the other side of the property. The tents were pretty average - a little on the small side, but we were only there for sleeping so that didn't bother me. They are very close together however, so if your neighbor snores you are probably going to hear it (our neighbor was sneezing and we could definitely hear it).

Overall we loved this place, and wish that we had more than one night here! Tarangire is such a beautiful park, and the Safari Lodge was a great place to stay while enjoying the park.

We spent 3 nights here in late June. The location is excellent, overlooking the Tarangire River. The tents were large, reasonably well furnished and comfortable. It was nice to hear lions roar in the night and one afternoon a large "herd" of mongoose ran right by our tent. The large stone verandah was really nice in the evenings with a spectacular view over the river. The common areas (reception, bar and restaurant) were very nice and there was a decent gift shop. The food was good, but not exceptional. There was a charging station for electronics at the bar. Our only complaint was that we did not ever have any hot water, neither did our friends who were staying in the tent next to us. We should have mentioned this to the staff, but just thought there was not any available. Like another reviewer, we had quite a few bugs in the bathroom area at night (no lights were left on).

Hello reed2b,
Thank you for your review!
Very sorry that you did not get hot water! We certainly would have sorted that out right away.
Pity it was not mentioned to the staff.
There is a Notice on the lounge bulletin, "that should there be anything at all that needs attention, we would like to know so we can make it right immediately."
Would you remember which rooms you occupied?

We do hope to welcome you back again!
