My non-profit company board members, including myself, stayed at the lodge at the end of July 2013. As soon as we arrived, the welcoming staff brought us some amazing fruit drinks, and advised us that we would be meeting the manager, Annette. Turns our the Tarangire Safari Lodge is manager-owned and Annette and her husband are the owners of this magnificent lodge! The main building is beautiful and boasts leather couches clustered into groups, the dinning are, a pool, a small shop, and one of the most magnificent views in all of Tanzania. I was in awe of the view, and how close all types of animals would get to the lodge. You almost don't have to go on safari if you stay here! At the lodge viewing deck, we say, zebra, elephant, waterbuck, dikdik, impala, giraffe, vervet monkey, mongoose, and you could hear the lions roaring all night!

The tents were very comfortable and sported two twin beds, a desk, luggage stand, and a separate bathroom with shower. Because we had a longer stay at the lodge than most customers, the staff also moved a wooden shelf/closet into our room so that we didn't have to live out of our suitcases. There was open bar and a buffet dinner which was more of less very good (not everyone eats everything, but everyone can find something good to eat!).

Room Tip: I would recommend getting the closest room to the main lodge building as you might be lucky enough t...

We stayed at the Tarangire Safari Lodge for one night on our first night of safari. We had just finished an 8 day climb on Kilimanjaro, so we didn't have high expectations, we just wanted a place with a nice bed. When we pulled up to the lodge I was in shock. The main building is absolutely gorgeous with amazing views. We were informed by the front desk that it was happy hour, and that they were serving beer and wine with free snacks on the veranda, so we rushed to put our bags in our room and took advantage of that!

After sitting on the veranda for a bit enjoying our drinks and the view of the river, we went in for dinner - which was also great. They served soup first, and the rest of the meal was a buffet. All of the food that I tried was very good.

We stayed in the tents here, but there are also cabins on the other side of the property. The tents were pretty average - a little on the small side, but we were only there for sleeping so that didn't bother me. They are very close together however, so if your neighbor snores you are probably going to hear it (our neighbor was sneezing and we could definitely hear it).

Overall we loved this place, and wish that we had more than one night here! Tarangire is such a beautiful park, and the Safari Lodge was a great place to stay while enjoying the park.

We spent 3 nights here in late June. The location is excellent, overlooking the Tarangire River. The tents were large, reasonably well furnished and comfortable. It was nice to hear lions roar in the night and one afternoon a large "herd" of mongoose ran right by our tent. The large stone verandah was really nice in the evenings with a spectacular view over the river. The common areas (reception, bar and restaurant) were very nice and there was a decent gift shop. The food was good, but not exceptional. There was a charging station for electronics at the bar. Our only complaint was that we did not ever have any hot water, neither did our friends who were staying in the tent next to us. We should have mentioned this to the staff, but just thought there was not any available. Like another reviewer, we had quite a few bugs in the bathroom area at night (no lights were left on).

Hello reed2b,
Thank you for your review!
Very sorry that you did not get hot water! We certainly would have sorted that out right away.
Pity it was not mentioned to the staff.
There is a Notice on the lounge bulletin, "that should there be anything at all that needs attention, we would like to know so we can make it right immediately."
Would you remember which rooms you occupied?

We do hope to welcome you back again!

The food is delicious, the staff very attentive and the view-WOW, the view is fabulous. We watched from our tent as many kinds of animals gathered at the river below for their evening drink. The dark sky was amazing for star gazing, too. The tents are comfortable with warm showers, flushing toilets and comfortable beds, The lodge itself is relaxing, airy and beautiful-complete with an Internet cafe. All 4 of us ( 2 adults and 2 adult children) all agreed that it was the perfect place to wind up our magical adventure!

Five years ago a friend and I were doing a budget camping safari and dropped in here just to check out the incredible views. We decided that day that we would definitely stay here some time. We finally did that in May this year, and took 10 friends there with us! It was a great introduction to those of our group who had never been on safari.

We had a wonderful day in the park and spent quite some time with a family of elephants having a mud bath.

Despite being a larger lodge than others we were staying at, our greeting on arrival from Annette was very personal and welcoming. We easily found a comfortable spot to call our own in the bar. The snacks provided during happy hour were a nice touch. The food was good and plentiful and the options at breakfast were extensive. The service at breakfast was a little slow but that’s not unexpected.

I didn’t use the pool (the afternoon was a little too chilly for me) but heard only good things about it.

Our group all stayed in tents. They were very comfortable and had large ensuite bathrooms with good water pressure in the shower. We were surprised that all our tents were set up as twins instead of some being doubles, but that wasn’t a problem.

I would like to stay here longer next time I visit - especially now that the spa is open! This is a lovely place to relax and enjoy the surroundings.

Hello Kelstarama!
Thank you for your review! Happy that a brief stop years ago would have you coming back to stay.
Thank you too for your Note about the twin beds. We do prefer it when guests let us know - esp. at time of booking - if they are keen for twin beds or doubles. We aim to please!!
We now have a Notice to all our guests on our Lounge bulletin "Should there by anything that needs attention, we would like to know right away so we can make it right." And this would also mean "a slow breakfast". Now not sure what was going on there.
We warmly welcome you for a "longer stay next time"!! = )

food, staff, tent was all great. the view is amazing, you can see animals like elephants nearby the river.

it was the last night i spent over my kenya/tanzania 9 days trip, i stayed in camps, tents and lodges, it's good experience to stay in different kinds of rooms, but this one, absolutely not a lodge.
this is the only place i stayed without electricity, all visitors had to do the charging at the central charing area at lobby, which i have secruity issue.

moreover, it was the only place to charge usd out of my 8 nights stay. a 500ml bottle water costs USD3.

Hello 852ghon,
Thank you so much for your 5 star review!!
Regarding Camping vs. Lodging....
- some people still do refer to this place as a camp (because we're tented), in fact it used to be when hunters camped here many many years ago!! However in other aspects of the word, we are a lodge because we have permanent structures.
We do offer a charging station at the bar and not in the tents due to fire hazards, however we do have power points in all the bungalows.
Regarding our water bottle prices: 1 litre of mineral water is $2.00 and our 500ml are $1.00. If you were staying here on the 25th July, I just noted this error. We owe you a $1.00 !
At the lodge we accept USD, Euros, Pounds & Shillings. We bill in USD but guests can pay in either one of the 4 currencies at our current exchange rate.

Happy that your overall stay was enjoyable and memorable!! : )

Karibu tena!/Welcome again!

Kind regards,
S. Simonson

Tarangire was overall very nice - the main house is particularly relaxing and nice, the food was decent, and the view is unbelievable, especially after they light the fire at night. It's so relaxing, sitting by the fire and staring at the stars. The tents are not bad, but are clearly added on. They have rubber floors, permanent showers and permanent toilet facilities. It was pretty buggy at night, more than some of the other places we stayed, particularly in the bathroom, so we tried to keep the tent flaps between the bathroom and bedroom closed to keep them out. Also, this place seems to particularly host large groups. We were on our honeymoon, and it sometimes felt like we were crashing a college trip of 20 students.

Hello YD410,
Thank you for your review! Happy you enjoyed the location for your honeymoon! = )
I do remember this large college group and sorry that they were overwhelming. Actually it is
rare for us to host college students as most go for the camping at the public campsites within the park. (It is probably budget based.) We are back to having many small groups again.
I wonder if your lights were left on in the bathroom to attract the bugs?
The rubber mat should have been just in the shower area as a "shower mat".
Can you tell me which tent you were in?

We hope the rest of your honeymoon in Tanzania was memorable!

Karibu tena!/Welcome again!

Warm regards,
A. Simonson
