Oliver's camp was the first of our Tanzania safari, although we have enjoyed several other african safari's.
From the main gate at Tarangire Park it is quite a drive after long flight and we wished we had flown into the local airstrip.(We flew into Kilimanjaro airport, then drove to Tarangire)

However, once we reached Olivers we could relax, it is a lovely camp and as previous reviewers have said the managers Ken & Michelle are a delight and very knowledgeable. The accomadation is wonderful with amasing views, comfortable, understated luxury.

We enjoy the 'family' dining arrangements everyone discussing the highlights of their day,and sitting around the camp fire sipping the drink of choice. The food was excellent, it never cease's to amase me how the chef's manage to produce such wonderful food in 'the middle of nowehere'!!
We did a safari walk one morning which made a nice change and a couple of night drives, we saw some wildlife we had never seen before eg honey badger's, caracal,up close with genet's and chamelion.

The downside for us were the tetsy fly, we were bitten to death, very painful bites and long lasting itch!
But on the whole our stay at Oliver's was wonderful, a real friendly family atmoshere. We were then heading for Lake Manyara & Ngorongoro crater to contiue our trip.

Wow! Ken and Michelle are great people and great managers. They employ absolutely the best staff, chefs, and guides. It was great sitting on the front porch of our tent and watching elephants and waterbuck stroll by. The food was great and could be served in any of our nice restaurants at home. At mealtime guests all sat together at one table with Michelle and Ken at every meal listening to and entertaining us. One of the guests did have a problem when a honey badger invaded their outdoor shower and kept them at bay for a while. Although the showers at Oliver's are ensuite, there is one side open to the outdoors. The guides, Mesenga and Erasto, were outstanding and knowledgeable about all the wildlife and birds. This was our first game experience and everything was a wildlife highlight. We had lions roaring at night and elephants eating the brush outside our tent at night. We went on 2 night drives, which were fine, but they need to do something better about spotting wildlife in the dark (perhaps a spotlight on each side of the vehicle instead of a single handheld light with the spotter).

My wife and I stayed at Oliver's Camp on our honeymoon and everything about our stay was perfect. Rooms (well, tents) were spectacularly well appointed given that we were in the middle of nowhere. The lounge area, dining hall and fire pit were wonderfully put together and gave the camp a warm friendly feeling that brought all the guests together, and the food was always incredible. But, the most amazing feature of Oliver's Camp was the view. Sat in a lounger outside our room we could see families of elephants walking across the valley to a nearby watering hole. Later in the day we watched them come back. How many places can offer that?

Managers Ken and Michelle were a delight. Professional wildlife photographers both, they were warm, friendly and shared stories of working in the bush, the changing wildlife photography business and offered us tips on giving our own photos a boost. They even arranged for a welcome bottle of chilled prosecco to be in our room on our arrival as a honeymoon treat.

Our travel agent (more about this later) had told us that this camp was one of her favourites in Tanzania so our expectations were very high. We were certainly not disappointed - this is a fantastic camp in every way!

The tents are large and very luxurious and quite secluded from each other. There is a large verandah along the front which is perfect for relaxing on. The outside shower (with hot and cold running water) was just sensational -showering outside whilst watching the African sunset was just amazing.

The service was also excellent. Ken and Michelle were great hosts and led a very professional, friendly team where nothing was too much trouble. Meals were eaten in a central dining tent and we really appreciated the opportunity to interact with other guests and Ken and Michelle. One of the best parts of travelling is learning from others and sharing experiences.

Alfred (our guide organised through Asilia) was also fantastic, very professional and knowledgeable. We saw an amazing amount of wildlife. On the way to the camp we saw a leopard in a tree with her cub at the bottom of the tree. It was just magnificent sitting watching her and then seeing her go down the tree to the cub. We saw lions hunting for a kill - whilst they missed it was good seeing them hunting. We got up very close to heaps of other animals. On our last night in the camp we had an elephant right in front of our tent. As we were sleeping with the flaps open we just laid in bed and watched the elephant's silhouette - amazing! As we were leaving there was a male lion on the road - a great way to end our safari experience in Tanzania.

As mentioned earlier our travel agent (Danica from Encompass Africa) highly recommended this camp. Danica organised our seven week trip to Africa and did a fantastic job. During the organisation of our trip we also spoke to the managing director of Encompass Africa (Jonathon) who was also fantastic. They first-hand experience of the camps combined with their love of Africa and reliability made it an absolute pleasure to deal with them.

Overall Oliver's was a great experience and we would highly recommend it.

Me and my partner spent 3 nights at Oliver's at the beginning of our Safari in Tanzania.
Oliver is located in a very exclusive part of the Tarangire park, away from the crowds but still with lots of wildlife all around. I remember taking a shower looking at elephants wandering around! The camp is beautiful and the staff very welcoming. Excellent service, excpet for food that was Anglo oriented with no much choice for Mediterrenean people or Local food lovers. There was no Tanzanian food and nothing else that British cuisine. The lodge is all north European-American oriented ( maybe because of the most of the guests).
Anyway, our overall experience was amazing and we definitely recommend Oliver's, hoping in some little change that will make this lodge one of the best in all Tanzania.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are pleased to hear your stay at our camp was amazing, although we are sorry to hear the food did not meet your expectations. Usually our guests enjoy the wide variety of food we offer from local Tanzanian (ugali or katchumbari), to Asian (duck pancakes, pork and almond stir-fry) and Australian (bbq or Anzac biscuits) dishes to name a few. However, there always remains room for improvement. Therefore I have taken your feedback and re-iterated with our chefs that we continue improving to offer a balanced variety of food to all our guests.

I am very pleased to read that - besides your disappointment about the food - you have enjoyed your stay. Please do not hesitate to contact me at marketing@asiliaafrica.com should you have any further comments and/or remarks.

Kind regards,
Marleen Haverkamp | Marketing Manager
