“A great experience, close to Tarangire, but very expensive”
Reviewed July 4, 2013

A cool experience to sleep in a elevated room built amongst the trees. Located at the edge of the National Park filled with Elephants and other, very convenient to the park, but not located inside the park like some of the competitors. Service and food were excellent outside of a minor mishap with our desserts still frozen! We ate outside by a large campfire and also enjoyed a Masai dance during our meal. Room was very clean and nice, hot water, good bathroom and cool ambiance. All in all, a great experience, I gave it a 4/5 based on location outside the park and value given an all inclusive night runs about $1700/USD for a couple.

Room Tip: Ask for a room closer to the main lobby as a long walk at night, even with an escort, can be a littl...

We spent 2 nights here as part of the sky safari. It was an adventure just getting to our room with the escort in the dark and the steep spiral stairs. But what a room and what a view! This is real luxury in a real treehouse halfway up a baobab tree. We kept the blinds open and loved watching dawn break from the bed. We didn't really have time to enjoy the lovely balcony unfortunately. Having a drawbridge door to the stairs was a neat twist too and was raised each morning by Nicholas bringing our tea.
The meals were great and we enjoyed the Maasai boma one night with a huge fire and dancers from the local Maasai village.
We had a trip to that village one morning - this was a real village that is supported by the resort and not a typical tourist trap. We were able to go inside the huts and find out how they still live.
Elly and John were excellent guides on our game drives and we saw plenty of elephants, giraffe and impala.
Thanks to Simon and his whole team for a great stay.

We stayed only one night at TarangireTreetops, and it was not long enough for a couple of reasons. The main reason that I wish we could have stayed longer, was that the hotel itself was amazing, from the enormous tree rising through the middle of the reception area (with its little bat inhabitants), to the fantastic room and brilliant staff. The other reason I wished we could have stayed longer, was the incredible drive in to the hotel. We visited in April, and if it hadn't been for the expertise of our driver/guide, and his handling of our 4WD vehicle, I don't think we would have made it more than half-way. In the few spots where the road/track was dry, the ruts were so deep that hanging on to the 'panic' strap and the seat in front, plus the tightly cinched seatbelt, were all that was stopping my head from hitting the car roof (I'm short and the roof was elevated!). In the areas where the road/track was wet, we either slid all over the place, or the mud was so thick, that I couldn't believe we were actually going to make it through! It was a shame that we had to head back the next morning, because neither my husband or I (nor I suspect our driver/guide), had quite recovered from the trip in :).
Having said that, the drive was well worth it. The staff were all wonderful - helpful and very friendly, and the food was lovely, (dinner and breakfast). Our room (No. 5) was superb, it was large, clean, had a great terrace (which we didn't really get to enjoy), and a lovely bathroom with plenty of hot water - just what was needed after the drive.
I would love to come back to Treetops and would definitely stay longer!!!!

Room Tip: Room 5 (we were told) has the best view, but we didn't get to experience this as we arrived late...

This was the first hotel/camp we stayed in during our safari trip in Tanzania, and we really enjoyed it!! The rooms spare no expense in comfort and amenities, the food is delicious and varied, the service is highly personalized and attentive, and the local Massai guides that walk to to your room/tent put on quite a show. Highly recommended!!

PS. The only aspect where I would find fault is the access road, which is very bumpy and slow, but this is not the lodge's fault.

We stayed at Treetops Hotel for one night and it was an incredible experience. The room was big, clean, well decorated. There are two showers and two sinks, each one equipped with soap, body lotion etc that smell very good....everything is just amazing. Each room has a terrace where you can enjoy sunset and the tarangire view. We syated in room number 5 which is quite popular during high season for elephants that come sleep under the tree house! Unfortunately we travelled during low season, a time where water is easy to be found for animals. During dry season lions, hyenas or elephants come drink in tha water resource that the hotel has in front of the swimmingpool, and if you are lucky enough you can even find them drinking the water from the pool!
I highly recommend this hotel: the staff is very friendly, excellent food, room and unforgettable experience!

Room Tip: room number 5

We drove down from Arusha and while on the way along the rutted dirt road, I had my doubts about what the Treetops could possibly be like. The road was bumpy in mid March and I wondered how the Treetops in the pictures could really be there in real life. It definitely was!

We stayed for two nights and just loved the place. Nicolas took great care of our group. The food was great. Location at Tarangire NP was very good. Rooms were big with fantastic views. And the whole experience was just super.

Cool, unexpected, luxurious, spectacular...We stayed for 2 nights and were treated very well. With our sky safari package we had a butler here. Nicolas, was a gentleman and nothing was too much to ask for. From packing cool towels when out on safari to waking us up with coffee and tea, to bringing us two different bottles of wine for dinner. We had dinner by the pool one night and by open fire the next night. Our room was built in a Baobab tree with part of the tree coming through it (room 6). The bed was as wide as it was long and the bathroom was great - hot water from the fire adjoining which was lit first thing in the morning (long before we rose) and again in the evening.

We were serenaded by lions in the morning and my some other animals in the evening (sorry can't remember). Part of out package involved a walking safari which is restricted to the conservation area adjoining the national park. While we did not come across too many animals it was nice to get out of the jeep. In the evening we were treated to sundowners on our own hill overlooking the plains. The following morning we went on a hot air balloon ride again over the conservation area (not permitted to fly over national park). Again not too many animals but very enjoyable. We were treated to breakfast on top of a mountain with eggs cooked to order and a champagne baptism as part of the hot air balloon ride tradition.

Tarangire, could be called Elephant park as we saw some where around 1000 elephants. There were also many other animals. In February the vegetation is quite abundant making it more difficult to spot the smaller or stealthier animals.

In the drier periods the water pond just below the lounge in Tarangire treetops is meant to attract very many animals (which we could believe). Great place to stay...
