Great stay with lots of elephants

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Sep 5, 2014
We stayed here two night on safari, I wasn't sure how I would find a tented safari but this place was lovely with electricty and a warm shower.

There are a lot of elephants very close to the camp and a lot of the time we got stuck in our room or stuck in the restaurant waiting for them to pass, which we didnt mind but did make us late a few times.

We were the only guests at this camp and the staff could not have been more friendly, helpful and kind.

The food was great I am a vegetarian and they changed it all for me and the pack lunches for the game drive was huge.

I would reccmoned this to anyone its great to be so close to nature.
Date of stay: August 2014
Room Tip: We had tent 7 and had the elephants all the time, this could because we were the only guests.

We did a tour in northern Tanzania , including high-end accomodation in Serengeti en Ngorongoro. But this camp was our favorite because of the small scale of it, the very friendly staff, de nice tent-bungalows and the elephants on the camp. The camp is in the zone around Tarangire NP and the road to the camp leads you through some Masai settlements. The filosophy of the owner is OK!

This was the start of our safari and we were immediately made to fee lat home and welcome. Food was very good as was the accomodation. Joseph the manager was very welcoming and we learned a lot about Tanzania and Africa from him. We would return here anytime we could!

OK so it isn't a Sopa or highfalutin lodge. But it was what out tour organiser said it would be and what we wanted...a very comfortable tented lodge about 30-40 min from the Tarangire Main Gate. But the drive itself was interesting as we saw some game plus Maasai villages. The tents were fine and the ensuites were basic but worked well. Plenty of hot water and also places to charge batteries. Insects are part of the deal when you are in a remote tented camp. Insect spray works wonders. Agree the sausages weren't great (wasn't there to sample sausages tho) but the rest of breakfast and the dinners were amazing for a remote camp and they organised great picnics for our day trips. Staff were so friendly and by the end of our 3 night stay they were serving icy cold beer.
I WOULD recommend this place for anyone who feels that 5 star is unnecessary. Best bit was seeing a 2 hour old elephant.

We stayed at Kirurumu Tented Camp for 1 night during a recent safari in Tanzania and did not enjoy our stay. The camp is located outside the park boundary a long way down a dirt road and was hard to find with very poor signage directing us to the camp. The tent we had was full of mosquitos, spiders and other insects - including SCORPIONS! Our mosi net had holes in it which meant we did not sleep at all that night. The food was not that great, with breakfast in particular being inedible (boiled, cold, rubbery bacon and sausages, for example). The camp's location was nice enough, with many animals walking around the camp during the evening and night, and the staff were lovely, but overall we would NOT recommend Kirurumu Tented Camp. Spend a bit more and stay at one of the nicer lodges or camps nearby!

    Thanks for your review.

The tented lodge is very clearly signed from the main road and its a ten minute
drive down one track straight into the camp. We provide all drivers in advance with
clear instructions how to find us and together with GPS coordinates.

We chose this site for its beauty and great wildlife viewing, which is what its all
about and I'm glad at least you liked that, as the lodge faces the Tarangire Park
boundary and overlooks a swamp area, which attracts a lot of wildlife.

The staff are supposed to spray the interior of each and every tent whilst the
clients are having supper to kill any mosquitoes that might have gotten in through
the open door. The windows are all made of mosquito netting as a double defense. I
have notified the manager to make any repairs to the nets if needed and to again
train the staff about spraying the tents whilst clients are out.

We are regularly undertaking chef training and I shall highlight the breakfasts for
    more attention.

    Best wishes for 2014,

    The Kirurumu team.

I would not have missed this for the world! The camp is right on the edge of the park(but not near the entrance) and the experience of watching elephants graze right outside your tent is something no amount of unnecessary 5 star facilities could top.The tents are, as previous reviewers have said, sturdy, clean and comfortable and we had a lovely dinner with our safari companions, followed by drinks around the bush fire. The masai guards walked us back to our tents and we drifted off to sleep to the sounds of the bush. A perfect end to our 1st, but not last, safari.
