stayed two nights here. good dinner and breakfats, though boxed lunches were average. my wife did not like the staff standing around the outside of our tent whilst she had a bucket shower (so as to refill the bucket). our toilet didn't flush when we arrived, but they fixed it relatively quickly. the shower head had green algae which suggested the bucket shower system needed thorough cleaning.
camp has no view, but animals stroll through at night. definitely needs tobe better sign-posted on the way in from Arusha.
food was prepared gluten-free.

We stayed here 2 nights. It’s in a nice location, just outside Tarangire park. The camp works in cooperation with a nearby Masai village and provides support to them. On our first night, some of the Masai men performed a welcome dance and song at the campfire (Bush TV). There are basins in front of each tent. In the morning, they fill with hot water to wash up before breakfast. A couple of chairs in front of each tent let you sit outside and enjoy the view and watch the animals in the area. The beds were very comfortable. Each tent has a shower and flush toilet. Showers were nice and hot and available on request whenever we needed them. The food was very good and well prepared. They provided an excellent box lunch for our second day game drive. The camp was very quiet during our stay. Two other couples shared the camp on first night. Only one other couple was there for the second night. Staff were great and always willing to help. Drinks were an additional charge, but the overall cost of this camp is reasonable. We’d stay there again.

We are a family of four from France. We went there driving our rental Land Rover.
The place is very nice and staff very helpful.
We met difficulties to find the camp as we arrived at night without information from ShawSafari which rented the place for us. If you go there on your own make sure to have the GPS location.and the name of the owner.

We end up following a motorcycle taxi and everybody was waiting for us working overtime: dinner was ready and everybody smiling. The following day the manager showed us how to get back on the evening and came back the 3 km on his own.
Tents are comfortable, plenty of food and the place very quiet minutes from the Tarangire Park when you know your way.
I will recommend a 4WD to get there.

Room Tip: We had 2 tents one with a double bed and the other with twin.

Whistling Thorn Camp was one of my favourite places during my stay in Tanzania. Staff was very friendly, accommodation was clean, food was very good. At night, before dinner, the staff showed us the traditional Masaai dance during at least 20 minutes.
I will certainly recommend this camp and I regret I couldn't stay longer.
So, if you are looking for a wonderful place in the middle of nowhere, do not hesitate to go to the Whistling Thorn Camp.

This camp was one of the most beautiful places we stayed during our safari trip and the most special one, middle in nature. The camp is small and very charming and the staff is extremely friendly...we felt very welcome and had the impression that people really enjoy working at Whistling Thorn Camp. One very important thing is that they are working together with the Massai community, so everything here makes really sense!

I would definitely recommend Whistling Thorn Camp. It is such a beautiful place right in the middle of nature. It's a very small camp, so the service is personal and the staffs are all looking after you very well. The services were good, and at night at the fire place the good funny jokes of the day were told, and stories were made. I loved every bit when I was there.
Ooh yes not to forget, the tents are clean, and the Maasai dance was superb. I am not a man of many words, but all I can say is I loved my stay in Whistling Thorn Camp.

What a wonderful time I had! The camp is indeed in the middle of nowhere, (a sign on the main road would be helpful) but that is a huge positive in my view as you will be feeling part of nature. The place is run by a village cooperative and you do have a feeling that by staying there you are actually helping these people to be better off. The nearby national park has no fences so the animals do visit the surrounding areas but again, that is a positive to me. Also, there are maasai guards on the premises who look after each guest so it is a safe bet to stay here. The staff in general is very kind and helpful, the quality of food is of a very high standard. Even though this is a camp and a generator provides electricity between 6 and 10 PM the tents are clean and comfortable and you quickly realize that you do not need 24 hr electricity and a spa and fitness center where you stay to feel good. My favorite is the "bush TV" : a set of chairs by the campfire to sit down and enjoy the sunset.

Room Tip: Any of the tents.
