My husband and I booked an African safari trip through "Imagine Africa" , a London based travel agency specializing in oustanding African vacations, in February 2013. We had the good fortune to spend two nights at the amazing Swala Camp in Tarangire during our trip. The accommodations were almost beyond belief with huge, comfortable room sized tents situated right in the African bush. Wildlife was right at our doorstep! Our hosts, Liz and Garth were so warm and welcoming, and the staff could not have been more helpful and anxious to please. The food was excellent and dining on the outdoor deck under the stars was a memorable experience. Not to mention, the picnic lunch they packed for us was out of this world. We would definitely recommend Swala Camp and Imagine Africa to anyone considering a trip to Africa.

I can't say enough about Sanctuary Camp Swala. Located inside Tarangire, this place is 5 star tents for those who want safari and incredible end of day accommodations. Rooms are outstanding. Animals are right there. We woke up in the morning, drank juice and watched giraffes less than 100 yards away.

Elephants roamed by. Monkey and gazelle were all right there. You are safe and able to continue to enjoy amazing African wildlife close up.

Rooms are excellent. Not roughing it at all.

The service was better than 5 star. Wonderful meals. Liz and Garth are amazing hosts. They spent time with us and educated us about Africa especially poaching. We want our grandchildren to see elephants and more some day.

This is a must stop for those who want to safari! Tarangire is a must and Swala is the place to stay.

My husband and I along with 2 friends stayed at Swala Camp for three nights at the end of January 2013. What a way to begin our safari adventure! Liz, Garth and their staff are outstanding inn keepers. From the moment we were greeted, our stay at Sanctuary's Swala Camp added to our amazing Safari experience. I would call it "rustic luxury"! The tent accomodations are large and comforable, the nightly sundowners (cocktails and hors douvres before dinner), and food in general are exceptional. The staff at Swala aims to please. Who could ask for more when you are awakend each morning with delicious hot coffee with steamed milk and homemade cookies? Our how about an evening game drive with wonderfully presented cocktails lakeside as the sun sets? Some of the best picinic/boxed lunches ever! We can't wait to return.

We spent 2 nights here. We were delighted with the camp. Liz and Garth were such great hosts, and the whole team were top notch. As beekeepers we were keen to visit the Mwika Beekeeping project which is supported by Sanctuary Swala. Liz & Garth kindly arranged this for us and we had a most interesting time. The Swala tents were luxurious, food excellent and the whole camp was comfortable and very well run. Lots of wildlife can be seen in and around the camp - one morning a group of Impala cantered past, a few metres from our breakfast table. Sanctuary Swala is a truly amazing place.

Sanctuary Swala was the highlight of our family safari. An open camp, Swala is home to Elephants, antelope, lots of monkeys and an occasional leopard. You are escorted to your tent at night by watchful Ascari guards who are never far away. Immersed in the sights and sights of Africa, you can expect to hear the monkeys scamper across the top of your tent and you may hear the growl of leopards and lions who come to the camp's water hole. The beauty and excitement are matched by flawless accommodations, the perfect balance between elegance and a natural setting. Located in the heart of Tarangire, game drives take you through herds of elephants and giraffes, baboons and buffalo. Game are dense and active around Swala, so no time is wasted to search for what you came to see.

The two most remarkable features of Sanctuary Swala are Garth and Liz, the resident managers. Your time with them may become a lifetime memory. Garth will show you the animal tracks left by night visitors to Swala, which he reads"like the morning newspaper." We learned from Garth how to recognize the paw print of a female leopard and even where she turned to run. His encyclopedic knowledge of wildlife is exceeded only by his deep love for Africa. Liz became a guardian angel for our daughter who had the flu. She was amazing. Our daughter's vegan diet is a problem everywhere, but not for Liz and Garth, who made sure that every meal was a delight. Their care and attention could be seen everywhere at Swala, and we left feeling so lucky to have spent time with this extraordinary couple.

Room Tip: Higher number tents are farther away from the water hole and central area. You get a lot of privacy...

I stayed at the Swala camp for two nights and i cannot express how amazing my experience was! Firstly, Liz and Garth were a fantastic management team and the staff were very attentive throughout my stay. The food was absolutely exquisite! Dinner by candlelight and early morning wakeups of hot chocolate were perfect. The luxury tents were stunning, i slept like a baby with the beautiful sounds of the outdoors all around me. The outdoor showers were great too! Days on safari were so much fun, our guide was very informative and we had plenty to see. Thankyou to everyone at the camp for an experience i will never forget!

This place was amazing and the photos do not do it justice. We stayed here for 2 nights as part of a safari through Roys Safaris and would have loved to have stayed another night.

3 of us shared a tented lodge and felt that we had landed in heaven. A safe campsite with Masai guides to collect you from your tent at night to take you to dinner. Such luxury in the middle of the national park was unexpected and I loved the toiletries - very pricey back in the UK though. The rooms were thoroughly clean, supplied with everything you would need - including mossie nets and thoughtfully pre-stamped post cards. Our driver / guide was treated with the same respect as ourselves by Liz and Garth and given a drink on arrival with us which was a nice touch.

Dinner was a lovely ritual with pre-drinks in the lounge with nibbles, then moving to the small tented dinning area (or outside on the terrace for breakfast). We were waited on hand and foot with amazing food that was chosen from a small menu but plenty to cater for all tastes (if not they would accommodate). Other food we sampled were the breakfast and lunch picnic baskets with food served in wooden platters - tasting lovely and accompanied with wine or beer if you liked.

Mornings were a treat, waking up to the outside through the mesh tent flaps and a tray of whatever morning drink you prefer.

Outside you are surrounded by the wild animals and there is a small water hole where you can see elephants and deer. Monkeys are everywhere and will happily sit on your balcony / tent rough.

Definitely would recommend this to friends and couple alike - very romantic.
