“DELICIOUS!”
Reviewed October 6, 2012

I personally love Bonnie Kay's food. Good food, good service and just a shame more people don't know about it! We try to go once a month on average. We take someone new with us on every visit. Very friendly atmosphere and deserve's a second try for previous visitors. Hurry before the word gets out and you have to wait in line!!

“not as good as it used to be”
Reviewed August 2, 2012

I grew up eating at Bonnie Kay's. It was the best seafood around. Fair prices, HUGE servings. I used to love feeding the fish, turtles and ducks at the lake. You would have to wait an hour to get a table even in the middle of the week. I would have recommened BK to everyone at one time. Now I would say go to Captain D's. The portion size is awful. The taste is horrible. The fish used to be fresh now it is frozen. I got perch and I couldn't eat it because of all of the bones. The coleslaw used to be the best around, now it is a greasy watery mess. The fish swims in grease. The only thing that hasn't changed are the hushpuppies. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE go back to the way you used to be.

“Terrible”
Reviewed October 4, 2011

My family visited Bonnie Kay Seafood on Saturday at 7:00. Should have kept going when we saw the parking lot wasn't full on a Saturday night.

When we walked in there was a obvious smell of something having been burned. We were told to have a seat anywhere. We chose a large table since there was 10 in our party. The first obstacle was the chairs. The would not slide on the carpet. You had to lift them as you moved forward which was difficult to say the least.

We ordered and we were served slaw and hushpuppies. The hushpuppies were good. The slaw was fresh but tasteless.

Our food arrived and while the quantity was small for a fish house - it was enough.

The quality was another story. Those that ordered fried popcorn shrimp were served something that surely must have been battered plankton. The shrimp were so small that you had to put 5 or six on your fork to have a average mouthful.

The sauteed scallops and shrimp were served floating in a greasy brown stew of some sort. (The seasoning was beyond words - none of us could recall having every smelled or eaten anything like it.) They were not even edible.

We had one child in our party who ordered chicken fingers which were almost burned.

I'm going to bring up the chair situation again because I hope someone at the restaurant sees this and does something about it. Since our table was against the wall, if someone needed to go to the restroom, several people had to move to let them out. It was almost comical watching everyone struggle with their chairs. The chairs are certainly not senior friendly. If there had been a fire and everyone needed to evacuate there probably would have been injuries.

The price of the food was reasonable and the server was efficient.

“Average at best....”
Reviewed February 6, 2010

We've dined here many times over the years. Different ownership has taken a toll.

Times past we would look forward to it. Now however, it's a last resort.

Mayflower on Randleman Road has BK beat, and I thought that would never be possible.

“Rare”
Reviewed August 2, 2009

If you're old enough to remember drive-in movie theaters, then you may remember "Fish Camps". This is one. Lodge in lake setting, where the kids could run around on the grass, and play on the bridge across the lake, while some adults sat on the porch waiting for your name to be called. There was no wait here, but it was a busy Saturday evening. 5 seniors in our party and most ordered a 2-item senior plate, so we sampled many of the menu items. The crab cakes seemed too spicy (not hot-spicy), but everything else was very good. The Alaskan whitefish was my favorite - thick enough not to be dry. The peach cobbler was "as good as it gets". Can't wait to go back there.
