I ate here while in town on business. Grilled pork chops, broccoli casserole, black eyed peas, roll and a water. Dinner was well cooked and very tasty. Pork chops were a little thin, but were good. Hard to believe there are still places where you can go and have an enjoyable meal such as this for $8, plus tip. I'll be headed back to Jake's Diner sometime.

If you like quick, fast Southern-styled, hard-working diners --- and we do --- then this will be a fun place to grab a bite. They serve breakfast all day long... the menu is full of all types of cuisine. Not fine dining - but the food is hot, the prices are fair, the waitresses are sweet, and their coffee is always good - and if it's old, they'll brew you a fresh pot. How can you not appreciate that?

Oh yeah, Simon Cowell (X Factor) recently ate there (July 2012) - and our waitress told us that he was very nice and said that he liked their food (there's some local controversy over his getting grits or mashed potatoes - but regardless, he was a happy camper). That was a very cool thing for Jake's.

Picture this......Sunday morning, following a great weekend in Greensboro, you arrive at a diner (JAKE'S) to wait, then several minutes later, be non-chalantly lead to a booth that is dirty and has lots of trash under the table.??? We hesitate sitting down due this and the dirty seats. The waitress who supposely just cleaned the booth looks at you "as if" and then says "I cleaned it". Then she turns up the attitude and says "do you want ME to sweep it???" Ahhh...let me see...(hell YEAH!!!) if you are gonna seat us here. Am I suppose to do it???!!! WHATEVER!!! The waitress then storms away to other waitresses, mad and complaining to them that we have a problem sitting in the dirty booth. Others customers are just watching like....??? Then guess what?...no manager on duty??, just some kitchen manager or something. No one to express our concerns to. Guess what?..WE LEFT!!!
Did anyone working at Jake's seem to care....NOT!!! Mistreat me one time...your fault. Mistreat me a second time...my fault! Never again Jake's Diner!!!

Jake's is a nice retro diner with good food and service at a budget price. The place was clean and service was prompt and friendly. We had a very good hamburger steak with baked potato and will definetely be going back!

We stopped in for breakfast and were treated to a surprisingly above average meal. The waitress staff are all attentive and efficient. They are definitely running around tending to their tables, so don't equate attentive with chattiness. They do what they are hired to do, and they do it well. We had a selection of food from the menu (which is all very well priced) and all was very good...egg white vegetable omelette, grits, biscuits, biscuits with sausage gravy, waffles, bacon and eggs, sausage and eggs....all great. Coffee could have been better, but definitely was good enough. Will definitely be back next time we are in Greensboro.
