The Undercurrent is our favorite local eating out spot. We especially like to go on a Friday when there is no corkage fee. We all had lobster and shrimp spring rolls served with a sweet dipping sauce and s mustardy shoyu reduc tion. Superb. My bison with a chocolate flavored sauce was delicious. Others had the duck or the lamb. Each dish was carefully prepared and beautifully served. We had to ask for bread but otherwise the service was attentive but unobtrusive. The choice of orderiing small plates is a definite plus.

We attended the oyster roast at Undercurrent Mar. 3, 2013. The newspaper piece advertising it said that there would be a low country oyster roast outside and, for an additional $27 or both for $40, you go inside and have Frogmore stew, enhanced oyster dishes, and salad. We started outside on the patio and quickly found it overcrowded. There were two small grills set up to roast the oysters but there were only a few being roasted at a time so the line was long. We usually got three at a time and went to the back of the line to wait for the next batch. The crowding got so bad that we gave up on the outside oysters and went inside. There was no enhanced oyster dishes or salad served. We mentioned it to our waiter and he said no one had told him about it. The roast started at 6:00 and they ran out of oysters about 7:30. People that came after that did not get any oysters. A waiter said that they had used 700 oysters for 50 diners. That is pretty low for a low country oyster roast. The Frogmore stew recipe did not reflect the Frogmore stew of the low country. It was loaded with fennel and no Old Bay. We complained to the hostess shortly before leaving and when she saw us later she turned and headed the other way.

The owner did call us and send a modest gift certificate but that did not make up for a very ,poorly done event. We expected a well done, professional event from Undercurrent and it failed in almost every way.

Eat here every other month - always a good experience! Locally owned - and offer interesting events such as wine tastings.

I highly recommend this restaurant. We took a party of 7 and the food was fabulous. They handled our large, lively party with no problem. I recommend the duck and their Martinis. Will go back when I return in the Spring
