“Surprisingly good Egyptian food in Greensboro”
Reviewed July 12, 2014 via mobile

There weren't too many other places open in Greensboro at 9:30 on a Sunday night so we took a chance on Chef Samir and were delighted with the friendly service and excellent food. We looked at the menu on line and called in our order a few minutes before we got there so it was ready quickly. The grape leaves were outstanding and the salad and shawarma were very, very good.

“Good Experience, Great Service”
Reviewed June 17, 2014

Overall, the service was great, atmosphere average, and the quality of the food was good but not outstanding. The prices were fair and Chef Samir a very helpful and likable gentleman. For our taste the meals were somewhat bland compared with other Egyptian restaurants in northeastern states, perhaps seasoning was adjusted for Southern tastes. We would go again but most likely for lunch.

“We will be repeat customers at Chef Samir!”
Reviewed June 10, 2014

While shopping for furniture, we noticed the sign for Chef Samir and decided to stop in for a quick lunch. The restaurant is a cool Middle Eastern restaurant with posters of Egypt along the walls. It was clean and neat.
Our server was nicely dressed in a black shirt and pants and brought us both the lunch and dinner menus and invited us to order from either.

We ordered the Hummus appetizer and calamari appetizer but were told that they were out of calamari that day. The hummus was brought to our table in a few short minutes. It looked lovely, drizzled with olive oil and tasted delicious. I ordered the Kofta kebab lunch and my husband ordered the fish filet in tomato sauce dinner.

The ONLY negative part of our visit was the wait for our food. I know from reading other reviews that Chef Samir cooks all of the meals. I appreciate the time and care that went into preparing our meals but with only one other customer in the restaurant at the time, we didn't anticipate the wait to be as long as it was (over 30 minutes). (We came early for lunch but around noon, the place filled up quickly).

Once our food came, we were happy again. My kofta kebab was a single ground beef skewer (removed), served with a green salad and rice. It was wonderful! The meat was seasoned well and so tender. The rice was flavorful and the salad was fresh, with red onion, peppers and lettuce in a light dressing. So good! My husband enjoyed his meal as well, as he finished it all and didn't even so much as offer me a bite! His meal looked fresh and appetizing, also. Between bites he commented that the fish was firm and well cooked.

The atmosphere is quiet and cozy. The prices might seem a little high but the portions are large and the food quality is worth the price. Service was friendly and our server made an effort to help distract our toddler who grew impatient waiting.
The only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars is because of the wait.

I really really enjoyed my visit to Chef Samir and hope to visit again soon. The food was fantastic. Shukran, Chef Samir!

“Just average - freezing inside- wear a coat!”
Reviewed May 31, 2014 via mobile

The food we ordered (chicken & beef shawarma combo) was excellent. The service was nice but when we suggested the air temperature was way too cold, the waiter agreed but failed to get the thermostat turned up. Don't know whether the waiter failed to tell the owner or whether the owner decided to disregard our request. Therefore it just gets an average rating. If I return, it will only be for takeout. Another Med restaurant in town (Sarah's Kabob Shop) is much better.

“Egypt's Finest without the Airfare”
Reviewed March 26, 2014

This intimate and charming restaurant off the busy I-40 Wendover exit was a welcome oasis from our long journey from the Washington DC Area. Chef Samir took excellent care of us, in the attractive Egyptian prints on the walls, to the attentive service, and the great flavors of the homemade food at a reasonable price. We had wonderful Hibiscus Tea, a chicken dish, salads, and their special vegetarian soup. We have already made a decision to eat here again on our return trip.
