We loved this museum. Everyone was very nice and the museum is very well done. The parking was convenient and free and so was the admission to the museum. Well worth seeing

The Historical Museum is free and big and informative. I've gone there at lease 3 times and have learned something new each time and found something I missed before. The staff is knowledgable and not pushy in the gift shop which I appreciate a lot! I plan to visit again, for sure.

The Greensboro Historical Museum provides a history of the town, the region and the state of North Carolina. While I expected a good museum, I was surprised with how large it was and for all of the artifacts and other items displayed throughout the museum. It is open everyday except on Mondays. Tuesdays through Saturdays they are open from 1000 to 1700, and on Sundays from 1400-1700. The museum is also free which is an added bonus. Parking is available behind the museum and in the nearby church parking lot.

The museum itself is three stories with the second and third floors housing all of the displays. You start off learning about early Greensboro and work your way until modern times. Along the way in a few areas were audio boards which you pushed to begin the audio. There were also a few videos throughout the museum as well. I found the early times through the US Civil War era to be the most interesting, but then again I ran out of time to fully appreciate the rest of the museum. On the third floor was a mock-up of the "Gate City" which had interactive exhibits which seemed to entertain the kids.

Outside of the museum are various structures that were moved from other areas of the county and moved to the museum's property to include the Francis McNairy and Christian Isley Houses. They are open for tours, but you will need to coordinate with the museum beforehand. Otherwise you can walk around the structures.

I would highly recommend the Greensboro Historical Museum if you are in the city and have some time to explore. You will definitely enjoy the museum and what it offers. There are some surprising finds throughout and makes it worthwhile to stop at each of the displays.

This museum is a hidden gem in Greensboro. It takes history and makes you feel a part of it. It just comes to life. I especially enjoyed the "little town" constructed in the middle of the museum. The museum itself is a beautiful historic building which delightfully houses the surprising history of Greensboro!
