We were visiting North Carolina and while in Greensboro, we decided to tour a battlefield (never seen one before). Guilford Courthouse is a National Park and home to an important American Revolutionary War battle. Ranger Julia was extremely knowledgeable and proceeded to tell us the story of British Lt. General Charles Cornwallis and American Major General Nathanael Greene and how the battle here was instrumental in the American victory over the Britsh in Yorktown (7 months later by George Washington). My 9 and 5 year olds were fascinated and asked too many questions (thanks to Julia for being so patient). We spent over an hour in the museum before they earned their Junior Ranger badges and we ventured outside to the actual battlefield. It was an incredibly interesting visit with 50% of our time spent learning some interesting history and 50% enjoying the magnificent trails outside. A perfect family day!

This was a wonderful place to visit. A peaceful park in the busy Greensboro area. The films were fantastic explaining the decisive Revolutionary War battle that was fought here. One on the rangers, dressed in that period's clothing, did a musket firing demonstration that was fascinating. Not at all like our automatic rifles of today!

Then we drove around to the different sites. Wish we would have had more time to walk it.

There were lots of runners here...great place to run with little traffic, nice roads, one-way traffic and beautiful fresh air

My husband and I visited the battlefield this past weekend and were very happy with our trip. It was the most interesting this in Greensboro, NC. Start at the ranger station, which has interpretive videos (helpful when trying to understand the battle) and a nice small exhibit. Make sure to grab the map while there. You can either walk (highly recommended!) or drive the 2.2 mile path. We had a beautiful day and were in no particular rush, so we walked the path, stopping at each sign post to read about what happened there and enjoying the beautiful nature. Visit stop 1 on the tour before leaving for your walk, which is right outside the ranger station/visitor's center.

After your top here, visit the Tannenbaum park down the road for another small exhibit and buildings (some original, some reconstructed) with "colonial" volunteers to help you understand life in that period.
