“Experience San culture, good food & a view too!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 21, 2012

This was a nice half-day excursion from Cape Town. Wanted to learn more about the past culture of the San peoples, the original inhabitants of Western Cape. After a beautiful, 45 minute drive north of Cape Town on R27, we reached the 850 hectares of the !Khwa Ttu Cultural & Educational Center, where a friendly watchperson welcomed us. On the short drive up the hill to the center, we saw eland, zebra & ostriches. At the Center, we enjoyed delicious, reasonable and beautifully presented lunches al fresco with a sweeping view of the coastline. Next, Kerston, one of the San guides, took 1 1/2 hours to introduce us to indigenous uses of local plants, going out of his way to look for and discuss ones we had seen elsewhere (book ahead of time). Finally, after perusing the small museum and crafts shop, we continued to the town of Darling (a 20 minute drive). We felt enriched and eager to learn more about the San...This outing can be combined with time in Darling, olive tasting nearby or wine tasting for a really nice, day excursion from Cape Town. One can also shorten the visit by simply lunching there, or lengthen it by overnigting in the !Khwa Ttu cottages.
