“Rustic, friendly and beautiful!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 5, 2012

We arrived at Ndali and was greeted by various staff members all smiling widely. Our bags was taken to the impressive and spacious rooms after which we cooled down drinking some tea & other beverages around the pool.

The view is impressive on both sides of the property, with a lake and mountain range on other side, the 40 min dusty drive is quickly forgotten as the extreme serenity of this hidden gem surrounds one.

They fed us like kings, we had a balanced and well presented three course meal each evening, a diverse and filling breakfast each morning and took our lunches from various local establishments around the Kibale National Forest (driving required for some excursions, but excellent hiking and nature walks from the lodge with a guide, Steven, is available).

There are many books, old and new, there is a sauna and a kiddies pool with a big blow-up Orca lazing it's days away. They do your laundry for free and massages are also included in the price.

When I booked, I doubted the value for money aspect as it is mid to high end range, but after the first 10 minutes in the company of the staff and the presence of the lakes and mountains, surrounded by a well maintained lodge, I knew Ndali Lodge is one in a million!

There was the occasional and non-consequential things like a safe that needed a new battery, the walk which we were told will be 1 hour, turned out to be a 3 hour walk, but any and every request was handled in a professional & prompt manner.

A tour of the nearby Vanilla Factory is a must-do! Good location for trekking Chimpanzee's in the Kibale Forest National Park (about 1 hour drive over secondary roads).

Thank you to all the staff at Ndali Lodge

No words can fully do the location justice as it needs to be seen to be believed.Yes,it is that visually stunning. It is without a doubt one of Africa's most beautiful locations. It is also close to the Kibale National Park making it ideal for chimp trekking.
The rooms are charming and comfortable. The whole place is spotlessly clean. The owners live right there and are friendly and always available.
The staff is polite and kind.Joann in particular is a lovely, young lady.
The food is very good and the portions are large.
I also have to stress that chimp trekking in Kibale National Forest is an experience no to be missed. The forest is beautiful, and it makes a superb contrast to game drives on the African savannah. There are also no less than 12 other primates in the Forest besides the chimps.
I saw 4 species of monkeys.
I remember our small group was surrounded by by a whole family of over 20 chimpanzees. The patriarch shrieked, the other shrieked in return and they all rapidly climbed the trees.!!! It was truly
an amazing and unforgetable experience. It is only a tiny bit less fun than gorilla trekking.

If you're not a "seasoned" international traveler or have never been to Africa then you could easily think the rooms here are dumpy, BUT for seasoned travelers, especially to Africa, you will appreciate the beauty and charm of this place. Out of 5 places we stayed during a 12 day trip, this place was #1 on my list of most preferred and loved lodges. The surroundings are divine, the entire lodge sits on a hill surrounded by some of the most beautiful valleys and lake area I've ever witnessed. The owner was out traveling so his cousin and family were present to greet us and ensure we had a fabulous stay. The lodge manager was fabulous and George is always available to prepare tea, coffee and all sorts of cocktails. Take a break on the terrace decorated with beautiful and colorful flowers, and just take in all of the scenery. No electricity here so rooms are lit by candlelight. Hot water all of the time. Pool looks very nice, but we were busy so didn't have a chance to use it. But did sit on the lower terrace by the pool for happy hour to enjoy the beauty of this place. Beds were very comfortable. They do laundry also and clean boots. Would definitely return here on a future trip to Uganda!!

The location of the lodge is breathtaking, nestled between the craters lakes high in the mountains. The place has a great atmosphere and feel, history and pride in every corner. The common areas are great, swimming pool is nice a cozy. Food and service are excellent.
With the owners living in the premises management and attention to details is tip-top. The service is very professional. The rooms are clean and comfy with a special colonial feeling to them.
The lodge has their own guide, Steven, who we took for a few walk in the area, very recommended, he is knowledgeable and a local who really knows the area.
This lodge was probably our favorite in our trip in Uganda. The children had a great time and the “Dead Chicken” Napkin fold is now a part of our family folklore…thanks Aubrey.

I just absolutely love this place. We stayed on New Year's Eve and had a fabulous time. Apart from the almost impossibly beautiful location, with the Crater Lakes beneath you and Congolese mountains in the distance, what makes it so special is that the Lodge has been crafted over many years by a family very much attached to the land. The Lodge is intimate and therefore the charm of the owners is a very important aspect of your stay here. At the same time, the cottages themselves are very private, each with its own lake view and lots of character inside. We went for nice walks around the lake and there's plenty for children to do as well, including a trampoline and a nice swimming pool. Aubrey, the owner, was extremely kind to the children and even set up his (very impressive!) telescope so the children (and adults too) could view the moon and stars. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

You will not want to leave Ndali Lodge once you have experienced breakfast on the verandah and gazed out at the beautiful Lake Nyinambuga. The style is elegantly colonial and the staff are graciously attentive and friendly. Aubrey and Clare Price create a delightfully convivial atmosphere and no request is too small or demanding. Evenings at Ndali are fun as you can enjoy a pre-dinner drink outside watching the sun set over the beautiful Mountains of the Moon in the distance and enjoy a romantic candle lit dinner in the spacious dining room. The menu is very well thought out and the food is delicious. I also enjoyed a good selection of wines during my stay. You can even buy freshly made honey from George, who has been with the lodge since its inception over 20 years ago. My room was very comfortable and spacious with delicate little touches that gave it a great deal of charm. I loved being able to sit out on my own terrace and listen to the birdsong as I enjoyed a wonderful pot of ginger and lemongrass tea. If you are a keen ornithologist, or want to go tracking gorillas you really are spoilt for choice for activities in this area. Alternatively, you can do what I did and just have a wonderful time relaxing and enjoying the surroundings.
