I wish I was able to invest in this place. The superb surroundings and the more than friendly host.gave us a glimps of the area that got all the reccommendations in the past. Arriving in the dim of light at 6 pm the old man told us that none of the rooms was prepared. The high price was - according to him - low, see our other reports to show that this aint true. Luckily he offered us a room -used by a long stay guest and realy his friendlyness and help upgrades the total count for CVK. The bandas are not in use anymore, the rooms are dusty and full of bat [--], the place is in a condition of 20 years without looking after. The breakfast was simple but good. Much overprized. Quiet place fabulous for bird spotters

Stayed here on the way back from kibale park after chimp tracking. The location is great - right next to the road from kibale to fort portal and situated on the edge of one of the crater lakes. I chose to stay in dorm housing, which wasn't so hot. First of all, it was much more expensive than other hostel rooms I've stayed in during my trip to Uganda - 30,000 Ugx per night. Additionally, you have to pay to use the Internet (5000/hr) and the food/beverages aren't cheap (they charged 15k for Matoke and groundnuts, which is pretty outrageous).

The weirdest and most off putting thing was the actual room that I stayed in. Maybe cvk used to get more tourists because the hostel building is reasonably large (and a 3-5 minute walk from reception). Inside is one large room; individual hostel rooms are separated by dividers that don't reach the ceiling. When I went, the rooms hadn't been cleaned and I had to wait for that. Additionally, I was the only one in this huge building so that was weird. Finally, the lights in the bathroom didn't work and I had to take a cold bucket showers.

In short, this place is pretty, and it looked like the people in the nicer rooms were enjoying themselves, but as a backpacker be aware that it's a bit overpriced and a bit run down.

CVK's setting is fantastic, and my friend and I loved the sound of the frogs and the view of the lake right out our front door. But the room had barely been cleaned at all--there was a previous guest's clump of toothpaste still in the sink. We were told dinner would be ready at 7 and by 9 we were still waiting, and we were the only guests. When we got it, the chicken legs looked like they had been cooked three hours. They probably had. In our month in Uganda and Tanzania, it was the worst meal we had, albeit the most expensive. The owner was very friendly and pleasant--just didn't seem to be able to get things done. A lot of repairs were obviously needed. Their walls indicated they had won a lot of awards in tourism, but I think they were resting on their laurels, and they need to pay attention to current needs. I wouldn't recommend CVK.

We stayed here for 2 nights and enjoyed it. Prices are good, compared to the high-class lodges at the other lakes. Its a very isolated place. Expect power cuts, no to very low phone network and a bad internet connection. Service was (as common in UG) a bit slow but we didn't mind much. I guess its a good idea to call before arrival, so they know guests are coming and can stock up supplies and start cooling Nile Special.
The lake is called lake of frogs because its very noisy at night from the frog quak. We didn't mind that and could sleep well, but maybe bring earplugs, just in case...

We had the most adventurous experience of our Uganda trip here, which was a motor cycle tour around several crater lakes. I absolutely suggest you to do such a tour, it is a lifetime experience.
We just asked the lodge owner about renting BodaBodas and he organized some locals which rented us their bikes for 40.000USh per BodaBoda per day (without bargaining because we would have had a bad conscience). The woman running the lodge gave us some advice on the route. Be prepared for the worst "roads" you will ever be driving, the most smiles from village people seeing mzungus driving BodaBodas, very beautiful landscapes, tiny villages around banana plantations and pure adventure. Heading away from the lakes (behind a tea plantation) is the entrance to a national park where you can just drive through without being charged. If you drive a few kilometers into it you will see the first baboon families on the road.

The only bad memories I connect with this place is the sad fact that we found out that the nice boy who does all the maintenance and service around the place only receives a salary of 50000USh/month. Be sure to tip this poor guy!

On June we spent a night at the CVK Resort. We had booked a banda, but after a lovely walk around the rooms with the owner we decided to take one of the nicer self-contained double rooms.
The beautiful location of the resort is well worth a couple of nights, the food we got for dinner was simply perfect and a delight, but most remarkably I would love to highlight the hospitality and kindness of our hosts: such a pleasure to discuss with them, we only had one night there in our plans but we felt home immediately.

I could not recommend CVK enough...

Room Tip: Depends on the particular needs, there is a good choice (and their website gives noce information)

So many things at this place were good. The welcome from your hosts is the best that you'll get anywhere. The home cooked food is delicious and the location on the lakeside cannot be beaten. Even the velvet monkeys stealing your breakfast in the morning is good fun! After 3 nights of our tour without hot water, the hot shower was very much appreciated. However, the big let down here was the rooms. Our room was tired and badly in need of a very good clean. There were far too many dead insects and dust in the room for our liking and truth be told, we are not very fussy people.
Nonetheless we didn't have any problems with power cuts and the fire lit for us and the other guests was very welcome on a quite chilly night.

We stayed in the lodge house in the national forest just a 2 min drive from the main CVK site. Pelussi our host cooked delicious home made food including Chicken and Goat stew with vegetables and beans - Very welcoming and friendly. facilites were basic and as in may Ugandan hotels electricity was sporadc but the house was clean and we had hot shower. 20 min drive to the Kibale forest for chimp viewing.
