I rate this lodge very high for luxury, food and beautiful landscape but not for animal viewing. Unfortunately the lions were shot and poisoned by locals due to their threat to domestic animals; an understandable problem. I understood from the guide you can usually track down the desert elephants (we found a small herd and it was fun tracking them) and the odd giraffe. Go for luxury, wonderful food, stunning views from your room and beauty of the Namibian desert. Staff was professional and courteous but not the warm friendliness we saw in all the other lodges we visited in Namibia with the exception of our guide. We had one odd event that put us off. After our two day stay, while in the truck on the way to the airport, our group of 4 was presented with a bill for $150 for cocktails (all "doubles"). These were for sun-downers and a drink before dinner; nothing elaborate or unusual-G&T etc. I do remember the staff asking if we want doubles or singles and we usually had singles. They would not take AmEx but one of us had another credit card fortunately for we did not have enough cash. This struck us as very odd for such a high end lodge and different from any other lodge we have stayed in. We prepay all our trips and include our meals and excursions. Nowhere was this drink policy so stated. In our 5 trips to Africa, we have never been so charged; it simply caught us off guard and disrupted a wonderful stay. Our South African travel agent was also surprised and when she contacted the Lodge about this policy, she felt she received a very curt reply.

Room Tip: All rooms seemed to have same wonderful views. Some are just a further distance to walk to meals if that is an issue.

This place is really something different - it feels like it is at the end of the world and for us really captured the spirit of the emptiness of Namibia.

Drive: We drove to the lodge - takes 2.5-3 hrs from Sesfontein along 4WD roads. The roads aren't great but not as bad as some people made us believe, perfectly fine in the dry season in a decent 4WD. Apparently most guests fly in but the drive itself was magnificent, and included passing giraffes and other game on the side of the road.

Lodge & Rooms: When you drive up it does look like something out of star wars - totally different. Inside though it was real luxury, the designers have done an amazing job. The rooms are lovely, bed comfortable but lying on the private gazebo in the sun was my favourite thing. We only had two complaints - we were there in winter and it was very cold in the evenings (the main rooms are all set up with no walls) and we found it difficult to consistently get hot water - certainly couldn't have a hot bath. It has a swimming pool but was too cold to use when we were there!

Activities: The highlight of the trip was seeing a herd of elephants walk off into the desert as the sun set on the first night. We went on two game drives however the elephants had moved on by the second day so saw some giraffe and a welwitcha on the other. In terms of quantity, we stayed in other places with more elephants, but the setting and the solitude here make the experience really special. Unfortunately the lion pride had been poisoned before we arrived so at the time there were no lions.
We also went and visited a local himba village which was brilliant - not overly 'touristy' as we were the only people visiting.

Food & Service: really good, plenty of it, and nice wine too. Service was great - they can't do more to help you out. The guide was great, really knowledgable and easy to talk to.

One of the loveliest lodges we have visited thus far in Namibia. A great service and an even more impressive landscape impressed us and made us forget the rest of the world for 3 days. The lodge is located overlooking the whole Purros area. It was possible to see both desert elephants and lions from the lodge with binoculars.
