Rocky Waters Motor Inn
Ranked #49 of 78 Hotels in Gatlinburg
Reviewed May 17, 2009

This motel is one of the older motels in Gatlinburg. We usually stay at different places and decided to give this one a try. We stayed in the King Jacuzzi room. It was very roomy and cozy. It does have a wood burning fireplace in season. It was very clean and didn't even have that "motel" smell that I don't like. The best part about the room was the balcony. It overlooks the Little Pigeon River and the woods. It's TOTALLY private. A lot of the accomodations in Gatlinburg have balconies over the stream, but they're not private because they overlook the road or another motel. The jacuzzi was surrounded by windows which was nice because you can open them and hear the river outside.
The decor was a bit outdated but not bad at all.
Overall this room was great to come back to after hiking and walking through Gatlinburg. The stream drowns out any sounds from the road outside. It was also nice to have covered parking!
If you stay here, be sure to ask to stay in a room in the older building. The Days Inn part of Rocky Waters have balconies that face the road.

We have been coming to this hotel for years but not anymore. They have a three night minimum on the weekends and the last time I called to check the rates, the person I spoke with in reservations was very rude. I am staying at the Best Western Twin Island this year. They were very curtious. The rooms cost more but would be worth it .

Reading some of these other reviews of the Rocky Waters, I can hardly believe they're talking about the same motel with which I'm so familiar. I have been staying at the Rocky Waters for several years, and wouldn't even consider other accommodations in Gatlinburg.

True, this is reminiscent of a roadside motel from yesteryear, so if you're interested in a hotel which could be anywhere in the world and look the same, DON'T stay here. However, if you're a traveler who loves the look and feel of a simpler but very nice inn, you should certainly check out the Rocky Waters.

Every room I've had at the Rocky Waters has been clean and comfortable, and the private balconies overlooking the river are a wonderful place to spend a nice evening after a day of touring, shopping, drinking, or whatever you do when you go to Gatlinburg. The proximity to the central part of town is excellent because I can walk there in a matter of minutes, yet escape the hustle when I'm ready to go back to my room and relax.

I'd say the only miniature downfall is the service... not that the service is bad, but it's so impersonal and rather dry. I've barely seen anyone in the office crack a smile. But that's okay... I'm not there to be entertained by them anyway, and every time I've needed something, I've received it quickly and completely.

Going back in a few weeks and already can't wait.

We had a King Jacuzzi Suite w/ fireplace. While the room has been updated in the past, it really could use some attention to detail as it was a little 'rough around the edges' as far as decor and furnishings. (ie: the countertop in the bathroom and also in the living room was missing a finished edge, the wallpaper was pulling away in a few places.) Apparently the motel is undergoing renovations so hopefully things like this will be addressed.
For us, the best part was the wood-burning fireplace and the giant jacuzzi tub, what a treat after a long day of traveling and exploring the mountains. We fell asleep to the sounds of the river rushing below our large balcony and awoke to the ducks quacking away in the morning. The location is good for walking into Gatlinburg and also makes it easy to hop into Pigeon Forge for shopping since you don't have to make your way through the busy downtown area of Gatlinburg.
If you're looking for a clean, quiet room with a gorgeous balcony view of the river and decent prices, this fits the bill. We recommend the King Suite with Jacuzzi... it was great!

We loved the location, which over looks the Little Pigeon River. We were able to feed the duck every morning. It is also walking distance to the heart of Gatlinburg. The thing that empressed us the most was that everyday we went out when we got back our room was cleaned up by hotel staff!! We did not even have to ask. Thank You Carolyn. We would for sure recommed this hotel to anyone that is looking somewhere near Gatlinburg to stay. We will be repeat customers of Rocky Waters!!

We spent two nights at Rocky Waters and loved the entire experience. Our room was large, clean and comfy. Loved the private balcony overlooking Little Pigeon River. The bathroom was one of the cleanest I've experienced for a hotel of this quality. The hotel is located on a busy road, but so is every other hotel in Gatlinburg. BUT, even though it's on one of the main drags, there was no traffic noise in our room. It is within easy walking distance of the entire city, many restaurants, shopping, etc. We couldn't have been any happier with the service and quality of this place. I recommend it wholeheartedly!! It gets five stars in my book.

One small problem (but not for us as we were on motorcycles) is the parking. If you have a large truck you might be in trouble. The parking spaces are very narrow.

This motel is located off the main road through the town of Gatlinburg. The road on which it is located is four lanes and has lots of traffic, but there seemed to be traffic everywhere in this town. We were able to look at two different rooms and there was a big difference in the road noise. We chose a room on the 2nd floor(which in this motel, I think, was actually the 1st floor) as they have parking underneath the 2nd floor. We chose a room that faced a motel on the opposite bank of the creek, which blocked our view of the 4 lane road. There were large trees near our room which gave us a better view and diminished the noise. There are little balconies facing the creek.

The motel was clean and the room had a small refrigerator and microwave, which is always handy. We stayed 3 nights. The purpose of our trip was to see the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

If you are looking for more of a nature encounter, then don't stay in Gatlinburg. We did hear about other areas located right outside the park that would be more to our liking, but it was really after the fact.
