“Wonderful Place to Stay!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 17, 2006

My family (2 adults, 2 children) stayed here on June 14th-15th of 2006. It is one of the last hotels on the "main drag" of Gatlinburg and is in a great location. It was far enough away from all the stores that it was very quiet but yet everything was within walking distance. As someone else posted, the convenience stores across the street are very handy.
When we arrived, we discovered that the hotel was having their carpets cleaned so there were hoses from the vacuums and carpet cleaners to maneuver the luggage cart over. That was probably the worst that we dealt with while we were there. It was in the evening (4 ish) and it appeared they were just finishing up.
We checked into the room rather quickly and loved the room. We had a standard double queen room to start with then our children found out the hotel had jacuzzi suites. So being the wonderful father he is, he checked for availability. There was one open so we took it and boy are we glad we did! It was a king jacuzzi suite, 2 rooms. The girls slept on a fold out sleeper sofa in the main room which had a tv and a fireplace. We stayed in the bedroom which had the jacuzzi and tv. Upon arrival to this room (316), my husband realized they did not have a "non-smoking" logo on the door as the other room did. But the room was so clean and there was no odor of smoking.
We also had a balcony that overlooked the parking lot with a slight view of the Smokies. You can also request a balcony that overlooks the noisy and congested city. We requested a rear one because of all the noise on the front side. It was so quiet in our room (except when a nearby room runs their water) and the beds were very comfortable.
Breakfast was ok, it was a continental breakfast with the addition of frozen omellettes and frozen pancakes (the omelletes were not that good but the pancakes were delicious). Get there early because the eating area is somewhat small compared to the size of the hotel. This is all they serve-there is no restaurant on premise. Which is OK because you are surrounded by restaurants. Right across the street is a Texas Roadhouse (which we ate at both nights because it was so delicious and the staff was very friendly and fast).
One thing we were a little upset with was the housekeeping. We had left the hotel around 8 in the morning to go up into the mountains. We arrived back at a little after 1:00 expecting to relax a little before hitting the stores. They had not even touched our room yet! So we went to the convenience stores and bought some lunch stuff and ate in the breakfast nook of the lobby.
The girls loved the pool, even though it is not inside the hotel itself. It is an enclosed pool with a retractable roof and is just a few feet from the back entrance to the hotel. It is probably the same size as an inground pool one would have at your own house. The depths were 3-5 feet and was never really crowded. The water was very warm and according to my daughter it was warmer than the hottub at the pool.
A main reason we stayed here was the free internet access. It was easy hook up and the connection was great.
We will definitely stay here again if we ever come back to Gatlinburg.

We go to Gatlinburg every few years and we like most of the places that we stay at. The Clarion was ok but it needed some major improvement in the breakfast area. They say in the ad that they have a "gourmet" breakfast and that they have omelletes and stuff like that for breakfast. NOT!!! They have the omellets and pancakes but you have to get in line and wait to defrost it in the microwave and we heard a women in the kitchen say that she was mad that the food truck didn't come that day. They also had those egg and cheese hot pockets and they were hard as a rock, they were nasty. So if you decide to stay at the clarion, i'd go somewhere else for breakfast!

My husband, 2 year old son and I recently stayed at the Clarion in Gatlinburg, TN for a weekend away. We reserved a suite with 2 queen beds and thought it was great. With a 2 year old, I recommend it.
Staff
I was greated promptly by the desk staff. Everyone was very nice and helpful. The only negative was that the gift shop is not staffed on a regular basis. You have to go to the front desk for help. Although a bit inconvenient, I can understand why they do it.
Room
The room was great. Very large with a nice balcony, living area, small refrigerator, microwave, pull out sofa and two queen beds. As I said before, we reserved a suite. The room is a bit dated with some wear being shown. The one surprising thing was that the iron and ironing board is in the bedroom on the wall. Usually, it is in the closet out of the way, but it was right there on the wall. With a young child, it was really nice to have the refrigerator and microwave.
Location
Location was great! At the end of the parkway so you don't get a ton of traffic. Next door to some very nice restaurants. Everything is within walking distance. The hotel is also located on the trolly route and the Ober Gatlinburg is just across the street.
Hotel
Lobby was clean and nice with a fireplace and sitting area. The indoor pool is not located in the hotel which I thought was odd. It is in an atrium located in the back parking lot. We planned on doing some swimming with our little one who loves the water, but with it only 40-50 degrees outside, we didn't want to have to walk outside to the pool and back. The one small problem I had was upon checkout, they charged me for using the safe although I did not. They said if you don't bring the key back, you will automatically be charged for it. However, I never received a key. They did credit me back the charge.

If we go to Gatlinburg again, I would definately consider the Clarion.

Clarion Inn & Suites – Gatlinburg, TN

We stayed for three nights during February 2006 at the Clarion Inn & Suites located on the Parkway in Gatlinburg, TN. We arrived approximately one hour early and were immediately checked into our room. The front desk staff was polite and professional. When completing the paperwork the staff had you initial the charge for the safe located in the room. They also informed me that if I didn’t want to use the safe to bring them the key and the charge would be removed from the bill.

We stayed in a One Bedroom King Suite. The Suite consisted of a bedroom with King Bed, Two-Person Jacuzzi, Sitting Area, Television, Small Closet, and a door to the private balcony. The Living Room consisted of a Sofa, Chair, Fireplace, Desk, Television, and Wet Bar. The room also had a refrigerator, microwave, coffeepot, and a safe. The safe was large enough to hold a small laptop computer plus camera and other valuables. It also clearly stated the warranty provisions for forced entry into the safe as well as the safe fee and that it could be deducted by contacting the front desk. Wireless High Speed Internet is also a welcome feature at this hotel.

We experienced a problem with the fireplace on our final night, however the problem was promptly, politely, and professionally corrected immediately after contacting the front desk. It must be noted that the room needed some minor work in areas of small peeling areas in the wall paper near the wet bar sink and that the hot tub located in the indoor pool area was out of service for the length of our stay. I would have given this Clarion Inn a three rating but felt the prompt attention in resolving the fireplace issue made it more than worthy of a four star rating.

This is definitely one of the best places to stay in Gatlinburg, TN that needs only minor improvements to make it the best place to stay. Location is on the National Park side of Gatlinburg which makes it a good walk to many stores and shops, but it is also close to many better dining choices such as Maxwell’s, Calhoun’s, Howard’s, Best Italian, Texas Roadhouse and others. It is close to the Ober Gatlinburg Tram. The parking lot behind the Clarion is of good size and makes parking even larger vehicles and SUV’s easy. Something that is hard to do in some Gatlinburg Motels.

We would definitely stay at the Clarion during future visits to Gatlinburg, TN.

My family and I went to Gatlinburg for the week after Christmas. This has become a yearly tradition for us. This year we stayed at the Clarion. We had the King jacuzzi suite. It was a great room. Most suites these days have the bathroom in the bedroom, which means those staying in the other room have to come into the bedroom to get to the bathroom. This suite is a lot better! The bathroom is outside of the bedroom which means more privacy! We didn't have any problems. The location is great, especially since it is next door to The Park Grill, which has cosistently been our favorite place to eat. I will write a review for them too.

ps. I didn't see any ants! LOL

We stayed at the Clarion Inn for New Years 2005. The room was nice and clean. We had a standard king, which included a couch, refrig, and microwave. The rooms were clean and comfortable. We had a balcony overlooking the strip which was nice. Convenient and within walking distance of the Fireworks show at the Space Needle and many nice restaurants. Nice complimentary breakfast which included pancakes, gravy biscuits, cheese omelets, donuts, bagels, cereal, and fruit. Staff was very friendly. I would highly recommend this motel and plan to stay there again in the future.

Our team returned to the Clarion December 15-19. The majority of our parents drove and arrived at various times. I arrived in the wee hours of the morning on December 16th. My reservation was not until the night of the 16th. The staff said my room was available and I could check in. They discounted the rate for the night of the 15th since I arrived so late. The charge for the safe was required. We didn't use the safe, but we paid the charge. If they are going to require the payment for this, they should include it in the price of the room and list it as an amenity rather than quibble over the small fee. The room was very clean upon arrival. No bugs or ants. Housekeeping missed us Friday because we slept so late. The housekeeping on the other days could use some improvement. Just pulling the covers up on the bed, emptying trash and restocking towels does not mean the room is clean. We did have a lot of extra items in the room, so I'm assuming this was the reason the floors were not cleaned. I normally leave a tip for housekeeping, but decided against it on this trip. I had a 1 bedroom suite. This setup is much roomier than a standard room. We had plenty of space and had five people in the room. The fireplace was awesome. It will really heat up the room in just a few seconds. The king bed was much more comfortable than the queen beds in the other rooms. The staff was more than friendly. I had to monitor the actions of 40 cheerleaders. The security personnel were very patient. As I made my rounds, they thanked me for checking up on the team members. Other team members and families were pleased with their rooms. Breakfast was fine. We are usually cramped in the small area, but team members arrived in groups at varying times, so everyone had a place to sit. The hotel staff allowed us the use of a meeting room for our team Christmas Party at no charge. We were required to use their catering staff which was extremely high priced. They charged us $2.00 for a twelve ounce can of soda. This was ridiculously high! The cupcakes ($6.00 a dozen)were heavy and dry. The kids didn't seem to mind, but I don't think we will be using their catering staff anymore. The five highlights of the trip were skiing at OberGatlinburg, singing at Crawdaddy's, Dollywood, Black Bear Jamboree and driving to the top of the mountain for an afternoon of fun in the snow. Southern kids and snow! They were in heaven! We had a great time in Gatlinburg. We plan to return to the same hotel next year and hope to see some improvement with the housekeeping service.
