“Wonderful time!”
Reviewed June 14, 2013

My family stayed the first week in june 13' and it was amazing! The staff was great and the atmosphere was wonderful. Everyone was so friendly and polite. The kids loved the pool and amenities. If you need it they have it. The breakfast was great! The room was top notch and so comfortable. The view was even better! We look forward to going back already.

Room Tip: Choose a mtn view. On the 5th floor. You won't be sorry.

First the good points: It is very close to the park, so you can be up and out on the trails without having to sit through traffic lights. This is especially helpful when there are evening programs in the park and the traffic heading out of the park is heavy. You won't have far to go to get back to your room. The next good point is that the two best restaurants are right next door on either side: The Park Grill (great salad bar) and Calhouns Restaurant. There is also a decent market across the street where you can get nice sandwiches for lunch. The reason I only give this place three points, not five, is the room conditions (which are mostly clean, but have a very worn-out, heavily-used feeling) and the breakfast (like a lot of food in Gatlinburg it has little healthy food). The people were nice enough, but nothing that stood out. And the stairwells smell awful. So even though I prefer to take the stairs, I had to hold my nose when doing so.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on a higher level so you will have a view of the mountains and not of the parking lot...

In past years, I 've stayed at the Clarion with my family in the king suites...five years in row. Came back for a weekend getaway after a ten year hiatus.

Pros: location is great; breakfast was good; staff friendly; room clean and bedding comfortable.

Cons: room (just king regular) is smaller than expected; cannot turn balcony light off and window treatments do not block the light; very disappointef with $15 a day "resort fee" - actually unsure what that covers.

After spending many consecutive years vacation at Clarion I was glad to return. Good place to stay. I will price compare though next visit just to see what else is out there. Drop the resort fee...it is misleading.

We stayed in a suite and the room was beautiful and clean with a nice size bathroom and balcony. The breakfast is great, too. Made to order omelettes, biscuits and gravy, & waffles every morning! Pool is large and location is perfect. Can't wait to stay again.

We are shopping around for our new "home away from home" as we travel to Gatlinburg twice yearly. The old hotel lost our business, and now we need to find a new one. This was nice, but we weren't overwhelmed by the place. The stopper in the sink was stuck in the down position. However, the maintenance staff came within five minutes of us telling them about it. That is a big positive. The view is superb for Gatlinburg. The breakfast was good, we loved the bear berry waffles. They were fun and tasty.

My daughter wanted an indoor pool, and they have one but it is a separate building. Unfortunately that is a negative they can do nothing about. They however could help some of the appearance of the pool area as it is uninviting to enter.

Would we stay there again? Yes. It was nice, but we are not exclusive. We are still shopping. It depends on which other hotels have inside entrances and a no smoking policy. That part I really appreciated because smoking was the reason that the other hotel lost our business.

I loved the fact that it was close to several restaurants and a winery.

I see that many people had issues with the room. I felt our room was quite adequate. The beds were comfortable and the room seemed up to date and comfortable. My concern is that I kept getting American Express alerts that my card had been charged even though we were paid up. Two days in a row we had charges, albeit pending, on my AMEX card. Nobody in the Clarion organization, from the local desk people who never got back to us when they said they would, to Clarion Customer Service could tell us why my card was going to be charged. In the end my card was not charged, but why would Clarion need to post pending charges when my bill was already paid up? Something is definitely wrong with the billing system and I would suggest everybody watch their credit cards for inaccurate billing.

We would like to thank you for taking the time to post a review of your most recent stay at the Clarion. We apologize for the inconvenience caused by us regarding your credit card. That was a Choice Corporate issue that affected all Choice hotels and has been resolved since then. We look forward to your next stay in the Smoky Mountains.

This Clarion Inn is about typical of other Choice hotels. There were a few minor issues with the room. 1) The room was not cleaned completely between guest departure and new guest arrival. There was an item left by previous guest that was not cleaned up. 2) Bathroom sink was semi clogged, very slow to drain and 3) Stained ceiling tile in bathroom. These are all minor issues in the grand scheme of things, but portrays an unprofessional image in the up keep of the hotel. The staff was great. The front desk was very helpful, as was the housekeeping staff.

Window treatments did poor job of keeping out the exterior lights at night.

Good location if you want to walk to downtown Gatlinburg.

Thank you for taking time to post a review about your most recent stay. The Director of Guest Services has been made aware of the issues. Those issues are not up to our hotel standards and what our guests expect when they stay at the Clarion Gatlinburg. We look forward to your next Smoky Mountain visit.
