“Peaceful!”
Reviewed June 24, 2013

Over the years I have stayed at this property under various names and owners. It is an older property with dated furnishings. I have never been disappointed even with the change to Red Roof Inn. The private balconies are their selling point. It is located in Gatlinburg but not directly on the Parkway. It is a peaceful and relaxing location.
Access to the downtown portion of the Parkway is by an enjoyable energizing short walk or by catching the purple trolley. The trolley stop is about 200 feet from the hotel property. You will have access to easy parking also. The rooms are oversized and quiet. The continental breakfast is adequate and filling. If you are looking for value affordable lodging this hotel might fit your needs. Good luck and have a great visit!

My family travels to the Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg area several times a year. This past weekend after leaving our accommodation in Pigeon Forge we decided to stay an extra day and having a small dog in tow, we had limited choices of hotels. Having stayed in many of the pet friendly hotels in Pigeon Forge, or having read dire warnings for the rest on Tripadvisor, we ended up in Gatlinburg at pet friendly Red Roof Inn & Suites. I have always loved the look of this hotel. It seems quite elegant perched on a hill surrounded by trees and overlooking the river at the beginning of the parkway. It's a couple of blocks from the bypass coming from Pigeon Forge and while it's still convenient by car or foot to everything 'downtown' it is more quiet and relaxing in this location. The grounds are well maintained, though the waterfall at the street level is not currently operational and the area surrounding the falls needs to be weeded. Parking is available on three levels and while some spaces directly in front of the hotel are on an incline and the upper lot in back is accessed by a steep drive, there is a large level lot to the side of the hotel. A new walkway and steps from the side parking lot leads to rooms on the lower level and to the elevator to upper levels. The facade suggests this hotel was meant to be upscale when it was constructed. The hotel is an older property but our double queen room, number 210, was spacious and clean. No pet fee, free Wi-Fi and continental breakfast are an added bonus as is the fact the hotel is 100% non-smoking (in the rooms - most guests were smoking on balconies and on the grounds). The room layout is good - there is ample cabinet and counter space, a small kitchenette, large open closet area with storage for luggage and an adequate size clean bathroom. There was a lot of space between the two queen beds which was a nice change and the NEW mattresses were comfortable. There was also a small table and two large chairs and still there was plenty of room to spread out. Our room had an electric fireplace though it was too warm to use this past weekend, it would really be nice in cooler weather. Our absolute favorite part of the stay was the large balcony with two chairs and small table. Our dog also loved the balcony and spent a lot of time looking through the railing at other guests and their pets. It was great to sit out in the cool evening air and enjoy nature. We had to ask for a new chair for the balcony because the seat was coming loose on one of them but the owner happily brought up a replacement. The owner told us all rooms will be upgraded with new large screen TVs next week. Though we didn't see them, this hotel also has a few theme rooms (Egyptian, Outback, etc.) and a couple of two-bedroom suites. The area with the swimming pool is well maintained and clean with large cans for pool towels. The pool is pretty at night with subtle color changing lights. The pool area also has a large cabana for shade and chairs for sunbathing along with a kiddie pool. A large terrace with swings, tables and chairs has been added on the roof over the office and affords a gorgeous view of the river and surrounding trees. Continental breakfast was included with our stay and the breakfast room is large and appears to be recently remodeled. I didn't partake of the breakfast but many guests were dining and looked pleased with the choices. While the property does still need updates, it is evident the owner is making a great effort to improve the hotel and that he takes pride in providing a great experience for his guests. To me, this negated any flaws caused by the age of the property. While the property currently has a blue roof, the hotel will be getting a red roof (Red Roof Inn & Suites) in the near future. All the staff members we interacted with were very helpful and friendly and we truly felt welcome. Having just come from an unpleasant experience at the hotel in Pigeon Forge, Red Roof Inn & Suites in Gatlinburg was even more of a wonderful surprise. I enjoyed this hotel stay so much I will definitely plan on staying here in future and only wish I had decided to stay here much earlier.

Room Tip: We were in a room on the second floor and while we still had a nice view, the rooftop terrace was di...

This is one of the very few places in the Gatlinburg area that permits dogs, which was the factor that influenced us to stay there. What will bring us back are the huge rooms and friendly staff. Maintenance leaves a lot to be desired, but this place is a tremendous value for the price and we will stay there again.

Value is good. You get also free breakfast (waffles, beagles, coffee, juice). Pretty location, you can go out for nice walks there. This hotels accepts dogs as well. Room was ok, the only thing I didn't like was old carpet (it was clean just old) and old microwave (it worked).

Hotel is within walking distance to the street where restaurants and attractions are located. There is really nothing to complain about for the amount paid - there is free parking and WiFi, and breakfast was great - simple but adequate selection of cereal and pastries; there was also a bear-shaped waffle making machine which was cute. Room was clean and comfortable. Recommended when visiting the smoky mountains

I was looking for a clean but inexpensive hotel for a weekend in Gatlinburg, TN where I knew I would mostly be in the hotel to sleep. I reserved a 2 double bed deluxe room with a fireplace and a complimentary breakfast was included. The hotel description mentioned a view of the mountains. When I arrived and was directed to the 7th floor (top), I was pleasantly surprised. The room was spacious, clean, had a balcony with two chairs/table and a view of the river, the mountains and some other businesses. At breakfast, again I was pleasantly surprised at a selection of hot and cold items including homemade biscuits. I really enjoyed sitting on the balcony and by the fireplace. My expectations were exceeded.

The rooms were big and clean. The staff very friendly. The only complaint is the breakfast hours they were 8 to 10, They should be 7 to 10. I will always stay there. The scenery was awesome and it was quite and walking distance to every where.

Room Tip: I stayed on the second floor and had a fireplace. Awesome
