Staying at Smokey Bear Campground just outside of Gatlinburg, TN. Have to say that it's a very, very nice place!! Not a large campground by any means.....makes it cozy. The owners are very hospitable. The owner's wife walks around the campground at least once a day. She will stop by your site if you're out and say "Hello", give some advice on where to go/what to do, and is very friendly.
One of the best maintained campgrounds we've come across. Lake in Wood CG near Lancaster PA would be in that short list too. Smokey Bear has level stone sites. Landscaping is well done with rocks and flower beds. Flowering bushes scattered throughout. Rest rooms, showers and laundry are immaculate. It's not Jellystone with 50 kids activities every day, doesn't have a 20' water slide, but it does have a playground and pool for the kids. They had line dancing and ice cream for July 4 dessert. Our 7 yo granddaughter has been having a great time!
Very convenient to the Smokey Mtns. The national park is very large....so no matter where you camp, you have a drive to get to the major visitor centers. Closest is Sugarland 20 to 25 min away. There is a bypass around Gatlinburg so no need to crawl thru town traffic. (We enjoy the park.....probably wont even walk thru town.)
We made reservations back in February or March for July. Knew we needed 2 sites for ourselves and our grown kids, their tents, etc. We were set until we decided 2 weeks before our trip to see if we could stay an extra day. Well they moved us from the original side by side sites to 2 sites split by a cabin. I was really concerned about the sites chosen. I called and emailed about the setup multiple times. The owner was very patient with me. She knows how to deal with a customer!!! Decided to trust the owner and am I glad I did. The sites she set us up with back up to a common area that leads to the playground, pool, and bath house/laundry. We can walk behind the cabin w/out intruding on our neighbors. The site she gave us for our travel trailer is very wide with plenty of room for all of us (we had 9 people by the campfire at one point).
Have driven around quite a bit and have seen many others that are not nearly as nice and am glad we're not staying at one of them!!!! Would have put a damper on our vacation. Would definitely return to Smoky Bear!!!
Definitely recommend the Smokey Mtns and Smokey Bear Campground!!!!
