“Highly Recommend Smoky Bear Campground!!”
Reviewed July 6, 2012

Staying at Smokey Bear Campground just outside of Gatlinburg, TN. Have to say that it's a very, very nice place!! Not a large campground by any means.....makes it cozy. The owners are very hospitable. The owner's wife walks around the campground at least once a day. She will stop by your site if you're out and say "Hello", give some advice on where to go/what to do, and is very friendly.

One of the best maintained campgrounds we've come across. Lake in Wood CG near Lancaster PA would be in that short list too. Smokey Bear has level stone sites. Landscaping is well done with rocks and flower beds. Flowering bushes scattered throughout. Rest rooms, showers and laundry are immaculate. It's not Jellystone with 50 kids activities every day, doesn't have a 20' water slide, but it does have a playground and pool for the kids. They had line dancing and ice cream for July 4 dessert. Our 7 yo granddaughter has been having a great time!

Very convenient to the Smokey Mtns. The national park is very large....so no matter where you camp, you have a drive to get to the major visitor centers. Closest is Sugarland 20 to 25 min away. There is a bypass around Gatlinburg so no need to crawl thru town traffic. (We enjoy the park.....probably wont even walk thru town.)

We made reservations back in February or March for July. Knew we needed 2 sites for ourselves and our grown kids, their tents, etc. We were set until we decided 2 weeks before our trip to see if we could stay an extra day. Well they moved us from the original side by side sites to 2 sites split by a cabin. I was really concerned about the sites chosen. I called and emailed about the setup multiple times. The owner was very patient with me. She knows how to deal with a customer!!! Decided to trust the owner and am I glad I did. The sites she set us up with back up to a common area that leads to the playground, pool, and bath house/laundry. We can walk behind the cabin w/out intruding on our neighbors. The site she gave us for our travel trailer is very wide with plenty of room for all of us (we had 9 people by the campfire at one point).

Have driven around quite a bit and have seen many others that are not nearly as nice and am glad we're not staying at one of them!!!! Would have put a damper on our vacation. Would definitely return to Smoky Bear!!!

Definitely recommend the Smokey Mtns and Smokey Bear Campground!!!!

I found Smokey Bear by reading a bad review from another campground. I am so glad I found them. Chong, Barry and the entire staff (plus Sassy, the security guard/ public relations) were so awesome. They went out of their way to make sure everything was perfect for our stay. We reserved a site for 7 days but after the second day we stayed one more. You want to stay, the park is clean as whistle from the bathroom to the sites itself. My 2 kids had a blast meeting new people. Chong recommend several things to do that were all excellent. We enjoyed dividing our time with doing things around Gatlinburg and The Great Smokey Mtns, to coming back to relax at the campsite. We tent camped, we had the electric site and it was great. The pool motor went out on one of the hot days but no biggie things happen even at our own homes. They got the pool fixed and was up and running the next day. We will be back again. This campground is about 10 or 15 minutes out of Gatlinburg but is so worth being out of the way. We didn't mind it at all closer to nature. I can't say enough about the campground, Chong, Barry and staff was really awesome and had a very relaxing vacation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We spent a week here, lots of shady sites, clean, and quiet. Barry, Chung and their crew work on the grounds daily to keep it clean and attractive and when you get to know them they are great, kind hearted people. The location is nice, easy to find, and convenient yet blissfully distant from the insanity that is Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge!

The staff here are friendly and professional, the grounds were beautifully landscaped and the bath house and washing facilities were exceptionally clean. Our family enjoyed the basketball court, the playground and the entire facility. There is a great hiking trail within walking distance do be sure to ask about it in the registration office.

Owners Chung and Barry make this a gem of a place to stay! Great location, very helpful staff and owners who are quite helpful with places and things to do. Clean, nice pool, I felt quite at home here in the Smokies. I'm picky and this place is worth commenting on. Would stay here again!

We recently spent a week at Smoky Bear Camground with my in-laws. We selected Smoky Bear because of its location, wooded lots, and ability to hold both RVs (for my inlaws) and a tent (for us). The RV area is great with wi-fi, full hook ups, and level ground. The tent area was even better with secluded, quiet tree canopy, large sites, and level ground. If you have an extra large tent like us, try to get tent site 8 as this is the biggest, most secluded, and most able to hold an oversize tent. The restroom facilities were very clean, owners and operators very friendly, playground perfect for young kids, and lands well kept. It really is a well run and beautiful place.

The location was great -- about 15 minutes outside Gatlinburg and across the road from the Smoky Mountains. There is even a trail head for the Old Settlement Trail near the entrance. Very walkable.

If you want to get away and enjoy the nature of the Smokies but want to be close to enjoy the attraction of this national treasure, Smoky Bear Campground is a great choice. Our son is already wanting to return. Hopefully someday we will.

This is our third year to tent camp at Smokey Bear campground about 15 min. from Gatlinburg with our great nephew. There are several RV sites and a few tent sites. It is by far the best campground that we have encountered in the Gatlinburg/Smokey Mts. area. The grounds are beautiful--extremely well maintained. The bath house/restrooms are impeccably clean. The owners are hospitable and very helpful--they make every effort to make you feel welcome. We will definitely camp there again next year.
